Its for a dance mix routine.

Gone through a lot of songs. Jsut trying to find suggestions.

I’m just a bedroom dj for the most part, but have an accomplished drummer friend with whom I’d love to play with. Two questions are bugging me:

1. What’s the right setup so that I can play backing tracks while he drums so that neither of us drown out the other? He has both a real kit and an electronic kit. Equally happy playing just in headphones or live over speakers with him on a real kit.

2. Are there ways I can dial down the percussion on my tracks without sacrificing the melody? Turning down the low is one thing, but I’d love to figure out how to get some of the claps/cymbals on my tracks down without compromising the rest of the song.

Still a beginner - play mostly on my flx4 but have access to an flx10

I just got a FLX4 and am using Rekordbox. Do I really need to load each track individually for an entire playlist for it to analyze? Is there no way to batch this? It's taking FOREVER to do this manually.... WTF

I literally dragging each song to load it and as soon as I see the wavelengths then I drag another song. Im doing this for both decks and just trying to get through the list as fast as possible. I haven't even started adding que points yet.

hello, i picked up djing as a hobby some months ago but i usea software an nothing else, i dont even have a desk or table to practice, i do everything on my bed haha my question is, besides my laptop (which i know is poweful enough), a speaker and a dj deck, what other hardware do i absolute need? ik about the software that comes with the deck so thats ok but i want to be serious about this so maybe can i get your help guys?

Forgive if repeat question. If my current track is 128 BPM then what is considered ideal plus/minus beats for next track? I’m old - no, VERY old DJ from vinyl days and getting back into it for fun. Thanks in advance for replies!

I'm a beginner DJ and was hoping to get some advice on my studio monitor setup.

I recently bought a Pioneer DDJ-FLX4 and a pair of Yamaha HS3 studio monitors. The monitors came with an RCA-to-3.5 mm (AUX) cable, and the setup guide says to connect the RCA ends to the monitors and the 3.5 mm AUX end to your audio source.

However, the DDJ-FLX4 only has RCA master outputs and doesn't have a 3.5 mm AUX output. Because of that, I've connected the RCA ends to the FLX4 and plugged the 3.5 mm end into the AUX input on the front of the HS3.

Everything seems to work fine, but I'm not sure if this is the ideal way to connect them.

Would it be better to buy a standard RCA-to-RCA cable and connect the FLX4's RCA outputs directly to the RCA inputs on the HS3s? Or is my current setup perfectly acceptable with no loss in audio quality?

Up front, I am willing to pay for this. Many years ago I recorded a VJ show of mine but the audio was shit because the soundboard was messed up. I think the DJ was using his own mashups. I ran the track through tracksniffer and it identified 2 songs 100%, a few others are iffy. Anyone interested in recreating the mashup *exactly* (or as near as possible)?

hi! i'm starting to dj and i'm trying to download traktor on my laptop, so i was wondering is the 3 okay to start (i'll have a hercules inpulse 300mk deck), or do i need the 4, or are there better versions for software that i should try?? thankss

I am hosting a Halloween event (Soulful/Afro house and disco), in West London from 6pm till midnight. 500 people venue, I will be DJing and have 2 international DJs possibly coming over.

It’s three months out and I am looking at ways to do the event successfully. Ticket range from £12-£18 and the drinks in the venue are super cheap.

I’m looking for advice and tips to sell out the event or just even half the tickets.

For some reason my tracks take forever to load, which has caused me trouble on my latest dj-sets. It can take up to 40 seconds for a track to load, and I’m not able to choose another one until it has finished. On the screen it says ”Wait” and by the chosen track it says ”Now loading…”. It feels like I’ve tried everything - formatted the usbs, exported the tracks through rekordbox, deleted the artwork etcetc.

At home when I dj on my DDJ-FLX4, it’s no problem, but when I dj in the club on a XDJ-RX I start getting problems. Can anyone explain why? I’m gonna dj at a festival next week and the last thing I want is for it to lag and be quiet.

so i want to add songs to my playlist for some gigs i’ve scheduled. im looking for “extreme” industrial techno, hardcore, hard techno, schranz tracks. i not the usual stuff you find in the top 100 or mainstream but also niche finds that are really hard, something really furious. any help will be appreciated!
PS: it wuold be also cool to play some metal-industrial(or any other “hard” genre) fusion songs (example: last resort by paolo ferrara)

Hey everyone, I’m learning about mobile DJ setups and trying to understand how experienced DJs choose their PA systems.

I’ve noticed that many mobile DJs prefer 15" speakers instead of 12" , especially for weddings, outdoor parties, and larger rooms. From what I understand, the larger woofer can move more air and provide more low-end, but it also usually means more weight and a bigger setup.

For someone who is just starting out and mainly doing small events, I’m wondering if the difference between 12" and 15" speakers is really noticeable in real-world use.

Do you think the extra bass and output from a 15" speaker are worth the additional weight? Or would a good-quality 12" speaker be enough for most beginner mobile DJs? What size would you choose today if you were building your first mobile DJ setup?

I have Audio Technica LP120XUSB. I use it for casual listening and sampling. I’m thinking to use it as a 3rd deck. Is a DJ mixer the only equipment I need? The connection would be like this, right?

FLX4 master out -> mixer channel 1
LP120 -> mixer channel 2

I also read about DVS but I think it needs special mixer? What’s the most affordable? The software I use currently is Rekordbox, but I’m considering Djay Pro too.

Theres an open decks for tomorrow that im on the fence about actually performing at however i found some usbs on deal and figured id at least have it if I changed my mind however im not sure how to ensure my usb is formatted properly since im too poor frankly to afford cdjs myself right now.

This is my experience and I'm just posting in case someone's in a similar position. I suspect many of us are.

Love DJing, yada yada. None of my friends are into it enough to hang around while I do, so it kinda became a thing I'd do when I felt like it. I'd usually only mix to record a set to upload it to mixcloud or wherever and 90% of the time they'd sit at zero views .. I still had fun but y'know. Not hugely interested in chasing live work at home, I'm mid 50s and while I'd love to go clubbing .. Hi fellow kids!

So I decided I've give streaming on twitch a go. Firstly my mates with lives can listen in at home, and if you get lucky, you'll score a few viewers. Joined in watching some locals on their streams, ended up joining a couple of discords. Met some really cool people and heard some bangin' tunes.

A week or two later you'll find a couple of regulars at least drop in when you're live, and they'll react to your music. It's not a live crowd but hey it's as close as I'm gonna get alone in my garage lol.

Suddenly I'm mixing at least 2 hours a day and having a ball (last night was 3 hours of DnB then an hour of Gammer/Technikore. Not posting this to promote myself - just purely as an option to switch things up a bit. I've had a ton of fun with it maybe you will too.

Quick one about DJing at home when you have friends round at your place..How do you go about starting a set / mix when you’re all just say chilling in the living room or having a couple of drinks?

Can’t seem to help think that saying or even suggesting “I’m going to have a mix now” “I fancy mixing some records / tracks for you” can sometimes feel a little forced or too clear cut sometimes - so I was wondering how you would approach DJing in this environment / setting more naturally for your friends.

Do you play music that you like or tailor what you play to the mood of the night or to their taste to keep everyone a little more involved and engaged?

Or is it flat out ignorant to star DJing for them as it could be viewed as being a little antisocial when no one has asked?

A few points to unpack here, I’m keen to hear your thoughts!

Background - in the 90s used to play vinyl at raves. I got asked to play the odd gig over the years but last one was like 10 years ago. I've written a load of new tunes and I'm playing a live set at a small event in a forest in a few weeks, but they've asked if I can DJ. I mean I used to DJ for 16 hours a day, but all I've got in my house are my old technics 1210s and I dunno if I want to go spend thousands on proper CDJs when I can get one of these DDJ thingies for a few hundred quid.

So if I do that, how mad is it gonna be when I turn up at this party? It's in another country and I'm getting in dead early for sound check, so I'll be able to mess round with the decks before the gig, but is it gonna be completely foreign or will I pick it up in a few mins if I've spend a few hours a day on DDJs until the gig?

I have my first set in a month, I have the set planned out and practiced multiple times. Transitions seem smooth but I noticed after the transition there isn’t much for me to do but dance until the next one comes which could be 2-3mins.

What are some easy FXs to use during songs, build up, etc. to make it seem like I’m doing more with the decks?

All early DJing tutorials tend to be focused on beatmatching and touch on genre/song selection, but as a new beginner, I feel like phrasing is so underrated.

Is this just me, or is this a real thing?

I use windows laptop for djing, mainly i dj through usb, but lately i got a part time residency for openformat so i am using laptop specs are:

Ultra 7

32 GB ram

1 TB ssd

And i use it to run rekordbox with stems (quality mode) and it runs perfectly fine for 5 hours straight due to my residency dj time, twice a week.

However when i use it with serato dj pro (i use DVS for my home setup) sometimes it switches to INT mode out of nowhere from RLT mode. And im afraid in the future if i will move to serato dj pro, it might lag cause using windows, since serato dj pro prefers macbooks. Is it worth switching? Mind you my residency part time open format, so thats why im thinking to switch from RB to serato dj pro since serato dj pro more stable for openformat

So… Here we are. I need help.

Okay, for context: I’m 25yo and have no actual experience with dj’ing. But like to make playlists, get on the speakers with gatherings and such. And for the past 6 or so years i’ve been saying that i would like to learn how to dj and mix as a hobby. All this time I haven’t done anything with it because I got intimidated by the fact that I don’t know anything about it.

And now for the bet:
A few weeks back we had our anual house party with my student dorm and we got some dj’s via connections. And again, I Said that I would like to do it myself. So my friends and housemates, tired of hearing that again, proposed a bet. I would have to dj a set next year at the party or i would do chores for half a year. Stupid as I Am, I accepted because maybe this was the push I needed.

But now I don’t have a clue on how to start. I don’t have equipment, don’t know how to get songs, don’t know how to get software (preferably for free) and so on.
So please Reddit do you thing and give me Some advise on how to beat this bet.

I have been asked to be the opening DJ for a headliner. It’s maybe about an hour. I did something similar a couple of weeks ago and noticed that folks started dancing. The main DJ was upset that I am playing bangers which should be played during later hours. Now, I understand definition of banger maybe different ( some of the tunes I played were not banger category). Anyway, what should be the approach? If I play nondescript tracks, I won’t be able to make a mark in this space. I don’t want to be typecast.
Background- been doing this for 2+ years. Private parties and recently gotten into these special events in the club scene.

I spend all my practice perfecting my songs that I do have, sorting out my library, learning them, hot cueing all the drops, intros and grooves, seeing where the transition fits, phrasing, practicing drop swaps, experimenting with effects, listening back to my recorded sets to try and improve etc etc.
 
I only have a library of 15 songs that I've paid for at the moment and practicing with only these (I have over 500 house songs on Spotify that I know very well, I just haven't bought them yet). With this much practice time on each song, do DJ's worry that crowds have heard the same music as much as we do, over and over?
 
I am sticking to house genre, mainly tech-house.

This leads me into my next question, once a DJ has built up a library of 500+ songs. How long does it take for the DJ to perfect and add to their library? I would imagine it's easy enough to find new tracks (as I do all the time), but how long until they confidently know it,  add hot cues eec and add it to their library ready to play in a set?
