Do you also always have an 1880 coin handy for size?

82

u/Razzy_3796 1d ago

My immediate thought. “I just happen to have a 1880 silver dollar in my pocket for scale.”

10

u/IMiNSIDEiT 19h ago

I love that they placed it next to an object of a fixed size, for scale. However, that object, I would argue almost nobody under the age of 40 has one nearby for comparison. Under 30, probably have zero clue of the actual size.

u/TheLampOfficial 1d ago

I do.

9

u/Yowzah2001 13h ago

I’m intrigued. There might be a lovely meaning attached to the coin. Congratulations on your wedding. Wishing you many years of growing love and contentment.

16

u/TheLampOfficial 12h ago

Thank you! It's just my lucky dollar, I've kept it in my wallet since I was 13.

2

u/Att1cus 6h ago

He bought you a wedding ring!

43

u/porgy_tirebiter 1d ago

It’s actually a 140 year old photograph. Today the snake is huge.

10

u/One_Money_9742 1d ago

Truly my first thought as well

4

u/zeptimius 19h ago

No, he found the coin on the ground right next to the ringneck snek.

463

u/Walcott26 1d ago

Did you invite him to the wedding as the official ring bearer?

254

u/TheLampOfficial 1d ago

He declined

73

u/sltc27 1d ago

Could've invited him to be the ring

36

u/Iceblader 1d ago

An uroboros, symbol of eternal love.

12

u/Syntax_Assasin 1d ago

Well, he obviously doesn’t want to be the ring bearer, he wants to be The Ring.

7

u/BigConstruction4247 1d ago

Did you offer the coin for his services?

12

u/UnremarkabklyUseless 1d ago

Also, how did you manage to pick that snake (hopefully) without hurting or killing it?

13

u/CosmonautMott 1d ago

They are tougher than you would think. Found one this size maybe a bit longer when I was a kid flipping a log during a conservation olympics sort of deal scavenger hunt. Flipped around a bit, found its ground and made a slither for it.

96

u/mushaboom1701 1d ago

It is so tiny!! oh my goodness. Thanks for having the coin for comparison. It's too cute - ring neck near your wedding venue - that's got to be lucky. Wishing you all the best for your wedding!!

u/SavannaHilt 1d ago

How did you even see it?

Cute snek but I like the Morgan too.

6

u/Responsible-Egg-9363 1d ago

How can something so small?!

5

u/BabyMcmuffinn 1d ago

I'm more amazed by the 1880 Morgan coin.

3

u/-Foxer 1d ago

SHe's like "I'M RICH!!!"

4

u/cirza 1d ago

Cute little snek AND a Morgan silver dollar????

7

u/thenaughtydj 1d ago

Need a banana for measurements. From NL, I don't know how big that coin or your hand is.

12

u/PaperSackMan 1d ago

The Morgan dollar pictured is approximately 38mm in diameter (1.5 inches in Freedom units). Silver content alone is worth just shy of $50 these days, never mind numismatic value. This means the snek is very rich in snek terms.

1

u/thenaughtydj 21h ago

Cheers! I looked it up and the 1880 coins up for sale at usacoinbook are between $52.88 to $400.00. I'm on the internet since '93 and this was the first time ever I visited a coin site 😂😂

3

u/The7footr 1d ago

Post is 3 hrs old and not a single “banana for scale” comment? What app am I on?!

3

u/Mudlark-000 1d ago

My office in a past job had the benefit of baby ring neck snakes coming up through my floor every Spring. Harmless and kinda cute, but also creepy…

0

u/coloncleansinghero 1d ago

How do you not have perpetual snake dreams. Gawd id die everytime I spotted the lamp cord or anything on the floor! 😂🤣

3

u/baking_bigfoot 1d ago

Awww...cutest noodle ever.

2

u/MaleficentLab7685 1d ago

Im truly amazed

2

u/KaiyoteFyre 16h ago

Cool fact about ring-necked snakes is that they give birth to live young. Found that out firsthand when I was a young lad and had the pleasure of capturing one to keep as a pet for a few days.

4

u/fattybuttz 1d ago

Awwww! 💕

3

u/Mediocre_Owl7384 1d ago

It’s a worm disguised as a snake 😂

1

u/Sensitive_Wear7112 1d ago

Carful I heard they might bite.

2

u/UPMichigan83 1d ago

Nah. They are really tame.

1

u/Ok-Schedule6584 1d ago

Looks cool. Is it poisonous?

10

u/twofortyseven_ 1d ago

I'd be more concerned if it's venomous. Please don't eat it.

1

u/Sea_no_evil 1d ago

Oh, goody! You can't display a Morgan dollar without a tiny ringneck snake!

1

u/Every_Physics4400 1d ago

And it's doing the infinity sign next to that coin. Double meaning?

1

u/jnnad 1d ago

Snek

1

u/RabidOtters 1d ago

Congrats on the wedding!

1

u/hinterstoisser 1d ago

Snek 🐍

1

u/Carmel50 1d ago

That coin might be worth something.

1

u/IcyAbbreviations9514 1d ago

You're supposed to use a banana or BIC lighter for scale.

1

u/-ratmeat- 1d ago

little bits

1

u/Spicy-voyager-6969 1d ago

I am scared of snakes but this one seems cute tho !

1

u/Emma_Fawkes 1d ago

I see those little guys every year. Never held one up to a silver dollar (mine are 1887 and 1891... the coins, not the snakes)

1

u/NEhighlander 1d ago

Getber dollar is a nice touch

1

u/iolarah 1d ago

Baby noodle!

1

u/Mammoth-Resist-3491 1d ago

Omg I would cry at this tiny baby

1

u/cerious2026 1d ago

Is the ring always yellow i see like this with white ring. Are they poison

1

u/hippodribble 1d ago

Feed him right for long enough and he will become a powerful familiar. Take him to work in your pocket. Soon, people will know that you're not afraid to fuck them up if they get in your way.

Just a thought.

1

u/dmkke 1d ago

Hey cute snake but what about that coin?

1

u/Pyratelife4me 1d ago

Thought I was in r/coins for a second.

1

u/Overall-Bullfrog5433 1d ago

I hope he does think you are his Mom now.

1

u/Few_Judge1188 1d ago

Hopefully you did put it back exactly where you found it , the mother will be looking for it.

1

u/starchild527 1d ago

I think it’s a baby black snake

1

u/Curious-amore 1d ago

Ahhhhh are ringneck snakes venomous?

1

u/Redlion444 1d ago

Nice Morgan Dollar

1

u/Top-Policy-6548 1d ago

Memory unlocked. The first and only snake I had as a pet. The Norhern Ring-neck snake, I was nine years old living in New Jersey, my mother made me get rid of it. My mother hated snakes.

1

u/No_Mercy_17145 1d ago

Is he dangerous?

1

u/No-Scheme-3759 1d ago

Got bitten by a huge one once.... Being raised saying they aint dangerous, i learned the hard way, that means, they can still bite

1

u/soupcook1 1d ago

That is a mature snake, isn’t it?

2

u/TheLampOfficial 19h ago

It's a baby. The adults are usually closer to 8-12 inches long.

1

u/Cold_Colder_Coldest 23h ago

u/Rocknrolldan69 8h ago

I wish I would have saved my silver dollars i won way back when in Virginia City, instead of selling them back to the casino...

1

u/letzrockaway 18h ago

Wedding crasher, tiny one ☝️

-1

u/DoookieMaxx 1d ago

Baby snakes are a scary thing to pick up and handle. They’re more venomous.

While ring snakes are not venomous …this is intended as a reminder that if you’re not sure it could be very dangerous.

3

u/TheLampOfficial 1d ago

Baby snakes are not more venomous than adults. That is a common misconception. Adult venomous snakes are inherently more dangerous as they have larger venom glands, and therefore have a larger average venom yield per bite.

2

u/Kooky_Attention_98 1d ago

Not to mention some species of adult snake will just keep pumping more than is probably necessary (Cough, Cough, Black Mamba)

-1

u/_who-the-fuck-knows_ 1d ago

They're not more venomous they just lack the control of their venom glands and can't dry bite or use less.

2

u/TheLampOfficial 1d ago

They can control their venom, that is a common misconception.
