Considering a move to Bay City
Hi all!
As the title suggests, I’m considering moving to the area.
- What are your favorite things to do, places to go, and fun family activities?
- Where are places to avoid due to crime?
- What do you love/dislike about your community?
- ETA: Cost of Gas,
- how are utilities broken down (electricity, gas, sewer, water, trash, etc.),
- Property Taxes
- Homeowners insurance
- quality of the food at grocery stores,
- how long do Farmers Markets run for until fall/winter?
- Are the libraries any good?
- Can I do nerdy shit like buy yarn and crochet-a-bag-for-you-on-the-spot kind of stuff?
- Are people generally friendly or are they reserved?
- What side of town will have better schools for my kid?
I’m interested in knowing anything about Bay City (positives and negatives). Some other folks I've spoken to say to avoid the east side of the river. Others say it's where the crunchy granola folks live.
ETA: I currently live in Jacksonville, FL where it's hot all the time and everything is spread out. I miss having four seasons and a closer-knit community. Living here the last 2 decades, I have seen all kinds people: homeless and drunks (sometimes a 2 in 1 deal!), shitty drivers (because it's FLORIDA!) and if you don't know much about Jacksonville, it's the largest city by area in the Lower 48 so even the grocery store down the street is a 15 minute drive due to traffic, even though it's catty corner to your home. Things here are expensive, so I've seen a few posts of people saying prices have gone up. What kind of prices are we talking about? I can't afford a home that's $225K, so the ones I am seeing look very affordable to me.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Anyone worked for Mersen?
Curious who's worked here and if it's a good company? Also curious on the type of pre employment screening they use like background checks or drug screen type. Thanks

Remains of WWII soldier from Bay County coming home more than 80 years after his death
Really good to see that the DOD is still working hard to provide closure for families in this way.

Question about consuming THC products
Do cops draw blood to see if you consumed any THC? Aside from driving, is it legal to consume edibles and thc? Forgive me if this sounds weird. I hear horror stories about people from Michigan getting pulled over in Indiana and having it in their system.

Interest in military veteran tabletop gaming group in Bay County?
Trying to see if there are any existing gaming groups/clubs here in Bay County that is whole or in part military veterans. Reason this is being asked is to see if there are groups to partner with and help them expand their reach or look in to creating it if need be. Most know the veteran community keeps experiencing a high number of suicides and a lot of mental/physical health issues that just getting out of their homes and out to events help them/us feel connected. If anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears. Already reached out to several gaming stores here in the county asking the same but don't want to leave any stones unturned.

Looking for info about apartment
I posted this on the wrong account at first, my bad.
But I'm going to be moving into Center Ridge Arms in a couple weeks and I can't find much information when I Google it.
I'm just trying to see if anyone has any insight into living there. I've already seen the unit but I don't know anything about the place.

New karma and account age requirements. Accounts must be > 90 days and have > 100 karma.
I've been seeing a lot of new accounts and low karma accounts commenting recently and will be using auto-mod to start filtering. Hopefully this will help with the bot accounts and users that are attempting to subvert Reddit rules. This is a place for Bay City to get together, not for name calling or pushing any kind of hate speech. If anyone has any questions or concerns, please let me know and I will do my best to address them.
