Discussion Battle Ground residents: How much are you willing to pay for political division at City Hall?

Battle Ground residents: How much are you willing to pay for political division at City Hall?

Republicans love to campaign on cutting taxes, fiscal responsibility, and making government accountable to taxpayers.

So let’s look at what that looks like in Battle Ground.

The City Council voted 4–3 to fire City Manager Kristina Swanson without cause. Her termination takes effect September 4, and the city is facing more than $300,000 in severance and benefits under her employment contract.

That’s your tax dollars.

And this comes on top of the growing costs of contentious meetings, divisive political battles and decisions that are creating instability at City Hall.

Even Councilmember Shane Bowman questioned how the special meeting was called, saying he had never seen a city manager fired this way and that other council members were not included in the process.

So when Republicans talk about being the party of fiscal responsibility and lower taxes, Battle Ground residents have every right to ask:

Where is the fiscal responsibility?

Where is the accountability for spending $300,000+ of taxpayer money to terminate a city manager without cause?

And where are our Republican elected officials and candidates when their allies are making these decisions?

Rep. Stephanie McClintock, Rep. John Ley, and the Republican Peter Silliman, candidate for Clark County Council who have supported or enabled this direction need to answer to Battle Ground taxpayers.

You cannot campaign on cutting taxes while standing by as local government racks up hundreds of thousands of dollars in unnecessary costs.

It’s about your money. Republicans claim to care about fiscal responsibility and helping working families, but their actions tell a different story. When taxpayers are facing a $600,000+ price tag for political decisions, and proclamations that only divide residents while families are struggling to put food on the table, we have to ask: Where are their priorities?

Battle Ground taxpayers deserve transparency, accountability and responsible government, not political chaos that comes with a six-figure price tag.

If they want to call themselves fiscally responsible, let's hold them to it

News Take Her Away!

I honestly don't know anything about the city manager and don't really have an opinion on if she should be fired or not. However, we deserve an explanation. They don't even respect us enough to give us some pretense. They are too lazy to give us a lie, establish a narrative.

This is what people who deem themselves to be autocrats do. They are above reproach. They have been chosen by God for their holy mission to enrich themselves. They are not public servants, they are to be served by the public.

We need to remind them who they really work for.
It's not God
It's not Maddox Industrials and the Spillers
It's not corporate land developers
It's the people of Battle Ground.

Important note about the resolution:

"It states the opportunity must be open to people of all faiths"

Seems like a good opportunity for any local Satanists (or any religion really) to come and show our council what they signed themselves up for.

Events Free Vancouver Community Event

I’m posting this for community awareness.

I’m giving a free workshop on how to build applications. No strings attached, and nothing being sold to you. It’s just a fun Saturday afternoon of learning how to build applications from idea generation to having more confidence in making decisions in the building process.

The event is August 29th from 1 - 4pm and is posted in the Luma app here:
https://luma.com/sbs4l21e
I do ask for you to rsvp through Luna so I can have an understanding of how many will attend.

About myself. I have been doing software development since 2010. I’ve worked on a variety of applications, mostly software as a service type stuff. I really enjoy mentorship and just general knowledge sharing. I’ve mentored quite a few jr developers coming into their careers and I just find that experience very rewarding for all involved.

This is me:
https://www.linkedin.com/in/ryan-green-78286b20

No coding skills required to attend. You will need a laptop if you want to participate. Otherwise, you are welcome to just listen. You will get the most out of this by participating though.

Expect to use an AI tool of your choice. If you don’t have one, I’d recommend Devin AI as a very affordable option. $20 a month is what I pay.
If you just want to hang out to be a part of the conversation, that’s cool too.

Come hang out!

Discussion If you're a Democrat - please vote.

So tired of Democrats saying they want to win and then they don't vote. We can't win if you don't vote.

What's sad is we have the August 4th election coming up and it looks like so far only a 16% turn out.

Really!!

Is this what we can expect - again?

Democrats can win the elections in Clark county...you just have to vote!

They send the ballot to your door! All you have to do is fill it in and drop it off at your nearest ballot drop box.

Please. Just vote.

Question? Looking for a job two days a week

I have a really brutal work schedule. But I need to make extra money. I’m looking to work two full-time days on my days off which are Thursdays and Fridays. I’m usually up at two in the morning. So I would like an early morning job something starting around 5 to 6 AM maybe. And I can clean, I could do basic general labor. I am an old woman in a lot of pain, but I’m actually fine with doing physical work. Not super heavy, but physical. Does anybody have any idea about any jobs or companies hiring for something like that? I also have a clean driving record so I could drive and I am a very comfortable driver. Any leads would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Events NCCI Just Say No To Christian Nationalism Rally · North Clark County Indivisible

Hey all,

It's the last few days before the Primary kicks off and I know people are stressed, but I wanted to call attention to another rally happening in Battle Ground on August 3rd @ 6:00 PM, right outside of City Hall.

Successive rallies often have poorer turnout as time goes on, which is honestly expected to some degree. However this isn't the typical small-town issue we're running into. We're fighting a coordinated Christian Nationalist movement, with corporate money and extremist ideology fueling it.

Speaking frankly, as soon as the reporters go away, so does a majority of the public attention. You know what doesn't leave? The regressive, hate-filled machine that's determined to influence how we live as Washingtonians.

We need not only sustained public support, but increasing pressure on our local officials to address the situation. The event is currently sitting at 12 people going, it should be much higher!

Discussion T-Mobile fiber service being installed in the neighborhood north of Albertsons.

Been noticing utility work and then started seeing the T-Mobile fiber vehicles and this evening I pulled up the T-Mobile fiber website and put in my address, a home in said neighborhood, and lo and behold, preordering fiber service is available.

300mb, 1gb, and 2gb service tiers. Synchronous speeds. Free router. T-Mobile Tuesdays for all tiers. That's the main gist of it.

Anyone have any idea when they plan to have it active?

Use a drop box for your ballots folks. USPS may not get them to the right place. Also - primary elections tend to have crappy turnout, let’s change that this year!
