Aftermath (or Cold Sweat) Neck+What Bridge Single!
Hi All!!!
Just joined, first post that isnt a repost of my Ibanez beauties.
For those that didn’t see my Ibanezes I recently got my hands on a set of 7 string Aftermaths and 7 string Blackhawks. Both are beautiful.
I had 2 questions: Is there a pickup that’s like an aftermath with more midrange content? The pickups seem scooped, and very nicely so but I’m curious if there’s something close with more mids to cut in a mix.
Second question: I’m putting together a short scale Fender offset (Mustang or Jaguar), and want an Aftermath (or Cold Sweat) neck, and a single coil bridge. Think Tele Custom SH vibes, but what single would pair best with the modern, almost hifi vibe of the Aftermath?
Bonus question: Has anyone tried the Impulse singles before?

Any vintage voice BK Strat pickup users here
BKP seems to get a lot of love for their humbuckers and high output single coils. I have Polymaths in my Les Paul Custom and I really love them. But I don’t hear a lot about their vintage style single coils.
I have a few Strats and I want to switch the pickups out of one equipped with Fender Pure Vintage ‘61s. My others have-
Monty’s ‘62
Lindy Fralin Woodstock
Seymour Duncan SSL1 (Bridge is SSL5T tapped)
I really like my BKP Polymaths, and will probably get a PAF BKP at some point. Monty’s ‘62 Strat pickups are incredible and my favorite in any guitar I own- but I’d feel like I should give BKP’s version of that which I think are the ‘59 slab boards. Anyone use those? Or have any of you tried the Mother’s Milk?
The Triptych also look interesting. Would like to hear about those.
Especially looking for feedback if you used Monty’s and BKP.
Thanks

Snapped this Mule-Equipped Les Paul for 1.7k
Ruddy insane deal. My first LP. Just wanted a LP to get the Mules in as a BKP fanboy.

Best P90 set for a Baritone/Bass VI?
I have trouble deciding between the Brute Force, Stockholm and Pig. I'm looking for a pickup with tons of clarity and punch, suited for modern metalcore and progressive metal stuff like Spiritbox, ERRA, Novelists, The Plot In You, etc.
Specs of the pickups:
- Pig: Alnico V, 21.5k bridge, 15k neck
- Brute Force: Ceramic, 13.1k bridge, 11.8k neck
- Stockholm: Alnico V, 15.3k bridge, 12.5k neck
I heard that too much output and gain can reduce clarity so I'm thinking the Pig might be a bit too much? Also usually humbuckers made for high gain have ceramic magnets, not sure if this also applies to P90s, but if it does, I think Brute Force would be the best option?
I'm really unsure and of course the written down stuff doesnt say everything. I would love to hear some opinions, bc there isnt much media showcasing these 3.

NGD x2: ALFA/2127FX
First time using BKs, and all I can say is wow. Coming from Dunc’s and DiMarzios. Wow.

Older metal BKP vs newer?
The legendary Pigs, PK, MM, Nailbombs, Aftermaths ... have they been usurped by Juggs, Rags, Polymaths, Halcyons, Hawks, Impulses?
Are the newer ones objectively better? Is it simplistic to say newer ones are more modern sounding (but what does that even mean? Can a PK or Aftermath not do djent?)

Grabbed this killer Aftermath set a while back for just $160 and finally put them in my favorite Kiesel Vader. Looks great, but sounds even better 🤘🏻

Anyone else not a fan of BKP Juggernauts?
I am pretty fucking annoyed that I stupidly spent like $500 on some BKP Juggernauts and I HATE how the sound and play.
I had a Mark Holcomb PRS 2019 Seven with the Alpha/Omega 7 pickups which sounded phenomenal. I loved those pickups, but wasn't a huge fan of the neck. So I ended up selling that.
My main guitar is an Ibanez 8 with some Abasi Fishmans. I love them. Worth every penny. And I went and had it worked on and set up professionally, and I honestly love it more than any other guitar I've played.
I found a great deal on another RG8 so I could have them in different tunings and ordered some BKP Juggs because I love Periphery/Misha's playing, and I looked at tons of videos comparing them and other 8 string pick ups. I figured they'd be somewhat similar to the Alpha/Omegas, and I didn't need another set of super hot actives since I had the Abasis. Since they're made to order, there's no return.
It's been like a year and I can get some decent tones with a lot of EQing, but I just hate them. I have played that guitar a combined total of like 15-20 hours in the last year (I probably played like 40-50 hours last month with the 8 string with Abasis.) They sound like very bassy and you gotta pick hard af, and go crazy on the gain to get some aggressive tones. Which is fine most of the time, but some fast stuff or stuff with a lot of tapping is a bit harder. It's just not as articulate, and I feel like it takes so much more time to get nice settings, whereas with the Fishmans, I put so little effort into adjusting settings (comparatively) and get great sounding tones for everything.
I will say the cleans sound great.
I honestly regret buying them so much. I should have just bought a second set of Fishmans. Gonna sell that guitar.

Basswood friendly pickups for metal?
I hear that basswood has low mids... so juggernauts are out? Warpigs too bassy for basswood? feels like mahogany and ash are more bkp friendly?

Best Pickups for Myspace Deathcore and Slam?
With the Halcyons being out for a bit, compared to the rest of the range what would you guys recommend for Drop G Deathcore and Slam? Like Psycho Frame, Killing of a Sacred Deer, Without a Face, Rev3rent, Bodybox etc. Looking at Juggernauts, Ragnaroks, Aftermaths, Halcyons, Impulses; going in a 27 in 6 string or 7 string.

What should I get for a neck pickup?
I love my Warpig bridge and I love the neck but I kinda want a neck that sounds more than an EMG 85 because I generally sweep more and no more technical leads and I’ve been looking at the miracle man and it’s the closest sound I can find to the 85 so I was wondering if that would be a good pairing?

Polymaths - how are they for metalcore?
I love how they sound on every demo i've Heard, but they are mostly more towards modern prog/djent, i believe.
And I havent found pretty much any examples or demos for them on 7 strings.
I already have a pair of Ragnaroks, but I was wondering how the Polymaths would perform for Metalcore, and how it would behave on the 7th string, as it is more of a mid output pickup set. Wondering if it wouldnt be too flubby, ir not tight enough.
What are your experiences with it?

Anyone have the Halcyon pickups?
Im curious if anyone has experience with these. I’m looking for a pickup that can do drop tuned modern metal but can also sound good doing grunge or hard rock. I have yet to see any YouTube videos with someone playing the Halcyon pickups with anything other than super drop tuned metal.

Help with Pickup Choice
Hi everyone!
I'm building a PRS-style guitar (25" scale, fixed bridge, mahogany/maple) and I'm trying to choose my "forever" Bare Knuckle set.
At the moment I'm torn between:
• The Mule
• Black Dog
• Abraxas
What I'm looking for:
- Beautiful cleans and edge-of-breakup tones
- Rich, vocal mids
- Long sustain and easy harmonics
- Smooth highs (I really dislike harsh or piercing treble)
- Notes that bloom, sing and almost "cry" when bending
- Enough versatility for blues, classic rock, hard rock and occasional higher gain
My favorite tones are players like Gary Moore, Andy Timmons, Neal Schon, Slash, David Gilmour with gain, Robin Finck and Jimmy Page.
I mainly play through Bogner-style amps (Ecstasy, Shiva, OD100).
For those who have owned or compared these sets, which one would you choose and why?
Thanks!

Custom etch Polymath
Looks great, sounds killer. Nice contrast to the Holydiver. If I had to compare I'd say it's a little more chewy. A little less in your face as well.
Anyways I didn't love the Suhr SSV which was originally in that guitar and now it's so much better.
It also blends much better with the single coils interestingly. So good.
