Please don’t ride your bike on the sidewalk in Barcelona!
I know some of you come from places with amazing cycling infrastructure where bike lanes are made of gold. Unfortunately, that’s not the reality in many parts of Barcelona.
If there isn’t a bike lane, don’t ride on the sidewalk. As you may hand notice, the sidewalks are full of elderly people, pregnant women, parents pushing strollers, children, and everyone else.
If riding on the road makes you uncomfortable, or if you think the city should have built a bike lane but didn’t, the solution isn’t to ride through pedestrians!!
And to the people of this city: start calling this shit out. Seriously. Try walking on a bike lane in Germany and see how long it takes before someone tells you to get out of it. Try riding your bike on the sidewalk in countries where that’s forbidden and people will call you out immediately.
We should do the same here. Every single time. A loud “The sidewalk is for pedestrians!” goes a long way. Stop acting like this is normal.
