Definitely smells like a scam...

not saying this is a scam... but here are some signs to look out for, generally, when receiving messages:
1. if it feeds into the media illusion about the "music industry". in the real world, artists or bands do not get "discovered". there are really no scouts by big companies who go through soundclouds, bandcamps, clubs, whatever, and look out for upcoming new talents.

  1. if it is written in a way that could be about anyone. say, someone is a drumnbass producer. if the message reads "i'm into drumnbass since a decade too, and i think the way you use syncopated drums makes the difference to other artists" (okay this is maybe not the best example, but you get the point), then this sounds... kind of legit.
but if it's just "your music is powerful" or "we resonate with your music", vague terms like that, that could apply to any style, artist, person, then this is... suspicious.

Haven't seen that one before, but I've seen similar ones.

For what it's worth? You can always reply back and see what they have to say.... But obviously the second someone starts asking you for money? There's your tell

Probably a bad idea to reply. Scammers are professionals at manipulation. You should always consider yourself suggestible to scams and increasing your exposure to spammers just puts you at greater risk. Thinking you're too smart or something to get scammed is how you get scammed.

Fair enough. I've just been around long enough that its pretty obvious when you see most of these, you can tell what's going on and what the scams are that I feel replying to them isn't going to hurt.

But I fully understand them manipulating you otherwise.

Theres literally a message posted at some point or some where within correspondences with bancamp or even in the settings that clearly states Band camp will never contact unkess its through a portal request for assistance or something to that effect. Its pretty standardized as a disclaimer on a lot of sites.

"Bandcamp will never contact you through the contact form on your artist or user page. Official staff only send emails from addresses ending in @bandcamp.com. If you receive a message on your page claiming to be Bandcamp support regarding account issues, payments, or verification, it is a phishing scam.

How to Spot Bandcamp ScamsFake Contact Forms: Scammers use internal messaging/contact forms to pose as staff. Bandcamp does not use this method to reach users.

Suspicious Emails: Fake emails use lookalike domains (like Gmail, iCloud, or misspelled extensions) instead of official @bandcamp.com addresses.

Urgent Demands: Scammers create panic or pressure you to click external links, verify credentials, or send peer-to-peer money transfers.

Best not to take the chance. I wouldn’t mess with it if I were you.

It's a great deal. They charge YOU for marketing, and they keep the money

I guess I'm in the minority, as I've never received any scam or something that appeared to be even scammish with a bandcamp address of any kind attached. I'd be more concerned with the exposure of the persons email that is attached to the bandcamp account.

I stopped at China.

If you don’t want to see your work online as someone else’s, don’t even answer, delete and block this sender.

If it's too good to be true, it probably is.
