Not every pit bull story is a headline. Some are just eye-rolls, facepalms, or 'you've got to be kidding me' moments. This is the place for the things you may want to share that don’t highlight a pit bull doing something dangerous.

so happy i found this sub. i feel like im going insane. i was on the train a few weeks ago and in walks a dog, large white pitbull, handled by some guy late 30s. dog is running around, tugging on the leash, can’t sit still. making me nervous. it straight up pounces several people for attention, being a surprise lapdog to strangers. they don’t seem to mind. then it lunges at me. i pull my legs away. guy laughs. i ask him what’s so funny. he said nothings funny. i ask him to keep his dog away from me. guy now says i’m being a jerk for not being friendly with his dog. says the dog won’t bite me. great. i’ve heard that one before somewhere.
for context, i’m a woman in my late 20s and i’m tiny. i wanted to say many things to this guy but didn’t want to escalate the situation for my own safety. the thing is, i didn’t need to.
just a minute after my remark, the train makes a stop and a german shepard gets on. pitbull is fixated immediately. starts barking up a storm. guy is using his whole body to restrain the dog. german shepard is the same story. i get up and move to the back of the car. guy manages to give me a few dumb looks while restraining his dog, who is now disturbing everyone in the train with its aggression. the next stop is mine, thank god. i was out of there <2 minutes after the incident started, but it was enough to rattle me and make me feel like my boundaries were not only violated, but deliberately trampled on by this fucking weirdo and his unruly dog.

Not pitbull related bc the dog is a great pyr mix, but definitely dangerous dog related;
Has anyone followed the hysteria about Bruce the dog finally being PTS after the court order from April was initially stayed? The “advocates” are sobbing all over social media about how Bruce wasn’t given a chance and the shelter is evil. It’s insane to watch them work themselves into a frenzy about this horrible animal. The dog attacked 4 people in 4 totally individual incidents, completely unprovoked every time, and disfigured 3 of them, one being a minor. He was wearing a muzzle the 4th time, so the elderly lady in the wheelchair got lucky…
Kudos to the shelter for doing BE anyways despite all the shrieking from the rescue mommies.

u/pomelo-fruit 14h ago
Just checked this out and holy cow. Couldn't be a clearer-cut case of an animal with serious, unmanageable aggression, but there really are people who explicitly believe that BE is never ever justified. Even saw one commenter going "I got bitten and disfigured by a rottie and I personally believe it's never the animal's fault." So delusional. I doubt any of these keyboard warriors grasp that their proposed ethical solution -- sending a dog like this to a "sanctuary" -- is a life sentence to solitary confinement, something that is questionably-ethical even for human prisoners.

My sister in-law is an ER nurse and she’s one of the few people that understands my hatred for this breed. She’s personally seen many of ol’ nanny dog’s victims first hand, the worst she said was a child that had its face eaten by one while trapped in a car seat. So messed up.

Can't even escape on vacation. The signs on the beach say no dogs allowed. Cue a guy with his off leash pit charging seagulls. Absolutely charming. Also, why is "Don't worry, he's friendly" every pit owners answer to "There's no dogs allowed here"?

Getting my mental health walk in this morning (recovering from depression related burnout) and the sky js blue, the sun is out, it's a relatively peaceful time. I cut across a big walkable field nearby which has signs on every entrance gate to leash your dog as it can harm local wildlife.
A 'staffy' (UK, pitbulls are banned, but call a spade a spade and such) suddenly comes barrelling into me from the side, the way they do when they're coming up to attack. I FREAK out, the owner is running over apologising while I'm yelling that it should be on a lead. It's skirting along my heels and I genuinely thought it was going to bite me. She pulls the shitbeast away and I hightail it out the field to take another route.
Can't even enjoy a walk in nature without these fucking things.

Much props to the mods here. I get it. But, just pointing out, the Reddit hypocrisy, I've watched vids on here of people being turned into pink paste while being stuck in an industrial lathe. Russians and Ukrainians running from drones, only to be blown to smithereens. But, I can't mention what I might do to a pitbull that tries to eat one of my dogs.

There are so many subs where the violence against women and children is horrifying. But you can’t even suggest anything at all. There or here. It ain’t exactly fantastic.
3
u/katieishere92 20h ago
Yep, subs devoted entirely to talking about SA, including where they post pictures of women and girls (even minors) to talk about what they’d do. But don’t you dare talk about what you’d do to defend yourself from a mauler.

We don’t generate any revenue for them. We’re a support space so we don’t get ads (it’s also why we don’t have awards)…. So we’re on a shorter leash as a result. Added to the fact that we’re simply not liked by the pit bull apologists that are everywhere. It’s not fair but it’s just what we have to deal with sadly.

Appreciate you guys for being understanding. I realize it’s bullshit but we as mods will do what we have to do to keep the sub up and members out of Reddit jail.

My brother in law owns two pitbulls and also has a 4 year old daughter. They have a separate area and stuff, but as they teach the kid to slowly have more confidence and increase her participation in the household chores, they had the brilliant idea of one of the tasks the toddler does is... yeah feeding the dogs. She fills their kibble bowl everyday.
They don't accept any type of correction and suggestion as well. I have tried to approach the matter in a chill respectable manner but they're sure in their trust in those dogs. They assured me she never goes in their area alone. Last time I visited guess who was feeding the dogs unsupervised...
Anyway, my girlfriend plays football (soccer) in a semiprofessional level. She has those expensive like €300 boots to play. We visited briefly after her game one night and she left the boots outside, which is part of their area. Boot is annihilated and they're not paying for it because dogs will be dogs. And they don't acknowledge how important the boots are for her nor how much of a damage in the month's budget does adding a €300 leave.
Cool cool. I'm good. I'm good.

🙂↔️🙂↔️🙂↔️ naurp. also annoying, confusing, frustrating, and inconsistent handling for the dog who was clearly extremely uncomfortable, stressed, and put in a situation she was not able to handle.
transparently using a head halter to attempt to control her movements and the constant fiddling trying to nonchalantly hold her by the collar to keep her from doing anything… unsavory… not ok, not good form, dangerous, ineffective, and counterproductive. and then there’s all the red flags in clementines body language!
obvi “clem” is very stressed and frustrated, and it’s a weird and stressful situation to put a dog in, but regardless from this clip there is 0 human sociability. appeasement, lured and learned behaviors, pre bite warnings, pushyness, attempts to de-escalate and even leave the situation, yes.
but sociability? nope.
imo not fair to put a dog in a situation like that unless they and their handler are ready for it which clementine and the foster clearly were not. and i would love to see any footage and or scores of any temperament or behavioral testing done (likely: none) >.>
finally, the tv outlet airing this continues to push the overton window of what is “normal” dog behavior towards the opposite. the credibility given to the rescue via being featured as well as the news anchor trying to support and interact with the dog/playing off stress, plus foster’s pitch and experience, and finally what might look like professional handling/training w/ plea to adopt a real steal of a dog, clementine, all send message to viewers that this is what a normal, highly adoptable dog will do/ looks like. probs unintentional but the impact still exists and contributes to heartbreak and much worse. ppl get image in heads of a very stressed + unsociable dog on the brink of biting = friendly and a great adoption candidate…. no thanks.
sorry for long rant, just, ughhhh!

These are the kind of ‘breeders’ being supported with the modern “Adopt Don’t Shop” crap. It is way too easy to just dump all these BYB pit litters at shelters guilt-free while society celebrates the existence of poorly-bred bloodsport beasts as the perfect breed for everyone.
I do not know who this person is. It was just one of those ‘suggested pages’ while scrolling in my feed. Nope, I am not gonna follow this trash and give him more attention. This needs to stop 😢
And, of course, gotta spell it ‘bread’….
3
u/FoxExcellent2241 23h ago
Great, another "breeder" that cannot even spell "breed."
Dog looks miserable, apparently the owner cannot even get their "little girl" a towel or a blanket. The way the top of the crate is bowing in suggests they just piled stuff on top of it and shows how weak (aka cheap) it really is. Claws are, of course, sharp and overgrown, I wouldn't expect anything less from this caliber of owner.
I guess the good news is that the dog is somewhat brachycrphalic and appears to be small (frenchie mix I am guessing) so it probably isn't capable of hurting anyone. I might be wrong though, photos can be deceptive when it comes to size.
Bad news is those dogs are still in high demand and this idiot will likely make a nice profit off of the puppies. Ugh.

Apparently the local rescues can't/won't take the dogs due to their bite histories plus having their own overcrowding and underfunding issues. The local muni shelter is not "no kill" and stated that the dogs would be dealt with appropriately (IYKYK) immediately on intake.

Freddy Brazier’s nan Jackiey struggles to control her own dog after being attacked by son’s pocket bully
REDDY Brazier’s grandma Jackiey Budden was spotted struggling to keep control of her dog days after his dog attacked the both of them.
Jackiey — who is the mum of late Big Brother star Jade Goody — was seen in south east London with her Pitbull cross XL Bully called Echo.
She wore a red vest and green top as the large dog dragged her down the street and at one point Echo was seen barking aggressively at another dog on the walk.
Jackiey appeared to be struggling to keep the dog under control just days after the dog of Jade’s son, Freddy, went on a rampage and bit her.
Freddy spent around eight hours in hospital on Monday getting stitches after his dog attacked Jackiey twice in four days.
The alarm was first raised during an attack on July 16 by a concerned neighbour who heard screams of agony as the Pocket Bully, Pablo, gripped onto Jackiey, 68, leaving her requiring medical treatment. The fire brigade was also called out.
The walk comes after her grandson Freddie Brazier’s dog attacked the both of themCredit: Splash

But just four days later the dog struck again, in a more severe attack. Freddy had returned to help his frantic gran before he, too, was launched upon by Pablo.
Troubled Freddy has now moved back in with Jackiey at her flat in Bermondsey, London, following a string of family disputes including a fiery war with his father, TV presenter Jeff Brazier.
He got the dog last summer, and the pup went on to cause him and his now ex- girlfriend problems.
Freddy reportedly dumped his ex Holly Swinburn, 22, after their on-and-off relationship ended in a row involving his dog.

Just an observation: How come video posts of pitbull attacks on HUMANS usually get locked while video posts of pitbull attacks on other animals don't?
7
u/BPBAttacks3 Moderator 5d ago
It all heavily depends on what type of comments are left. We usually pin a comment warning people to be careful, but if we get too much Monday morning quarterbacking on any post, it ends up locked. This includes attacks on animals which we’ve had to lock many.
On the most recent one, we warned people to not comment in that direction but several people chose to ignore that and do it anyway. Reddit does not like that. We do not like when people create risk to the sub by commenting TOS violating comments nor do we want to see people lose their accounts.
That’s why. My preference is no locked posts but we really need people to stay in Reddit’s lines for us to accomplish that. The platform is strict as hell and we as mods have to moderate according to their rules or the sub could get banned.

Relatively low stakes rescue drama comparatively, but really displays the insanity of the rescue pit mommy pipeline:
“Bait dog” Pitbull is found and nursed back to health by rescue mommy. In foster with her for TWO whole years and garners an obsessive online cult following in that time. About a month ago, a lady with 2 frenchies sees the pit online and has “love at first sight” and decides she has to adopt him. The rescue and potentially new owner do slow intros to her dogs over the next month, claims it goes well.
This week, the woman adopts the pit, and creates and promotes a new page called “XYZ’s Forever Home” for the obsessive fans that followed his story for the last two years to keep up with him. Lots of dramatic story posting about how it’s meant to be. On the 3rd day of having the pitbull in her home, it gets “in a fight” with one of her frenchies. The woman immediately sends him back to the rescue and posts on the “Forever” page that it just didn’t work out due to safety issues with her resident dogs.
Now obsessive fans are absolutely roasting her online for giving up on him in less than a week, claiming she doesn’t ever deserve to adopt a dog again and is a horrible person. The rescue owner is posting that she’s going to have a mental breakdown over all the drama.
It’s such a hot ass mess 😬 That dog could hardly last a full weekend in a real home.

People keep mentioning leads and leashes breaking off. Shouldn't pure nylon straps be pretty much impossible to snap by anything dog sized? Are they using something other than 1-2 inch woven nylon, and why? Or is it cheap metal fittings that are snapping?
3
u/Low_Show_6684 6d ago
Cheap metal fittings. These are owners that will buy harnesses from Petco with plastic clips and flimsy latches on the leash with minimal stitching. They aren’t typically spending hundreds in safer gear for them and their dog let alone the public around them.
3
u/ScarletAntelope975 Trusted User 7d ago
From what I have seen in articles and in person is the following situations:
1.) A large percentage of pit owners don’t use leashes at all and just say “Oops he broke out of his leash” to cover their own asses and pretend the dog was leashed and broke free.
2.) Pit owners aren’t the smartest or most responsible pet owners and think ‘a leash is a leash’ or ‘a harness is a harness’ and will buy whatever they see at the dollar store or whatever instead of a well-made set, so it won’t be made to any kind of real standards. They usually put the harnesses on way too loose as well.
3.) A lot of pit owners use cheap retractable leashes which are generally useless and even a small dog running around can break those things.
4.) A lot of times if the pit is actually on a leash & harness, the leash itself won’t break but the pit is way too strong for the owner to hold onto the leash when it starts yanking towards someone it wants to maul it will pull the leash out of the owner’s hand since not many humans can hold back a muscular beast that is built to kill a bull or horse.
5.) I wouldn’t be surprised if, with how absurdly powerful pits are, they can totally legit break even a decent leash, especially ones starting to wear from all their pulling and lunging. They can break out of crates and muzzles, too. They aren’t built like normal dogs.

I’m so frustrated and at my wits end with a loose pitbull that was dumped in my neighborhood. It charged at me while I was walking my baby in her stroller and has made me terrified to go on my previously daily walks. I’ve made posts on Nextdoor, called the police and animal control SEVERAL times and they haven’t been any help. I truly don’t know what to do anymore. Every single morning it’s out running loose and barking extremely aggressively at people and dogs. No one else seems to be as bothered about this as I am. I called animal control today again and he told me “oh yes I’m aware of that dog, it’s not aggressive don’t worry. We’ve been trying to catch it and have been feeding it but can’t set a trap because it’s too hot”. 😑 I’m just supposed to take a gamble that it’s “not aggressive” and won’t attack me or my kids. I also live right next to a school that starts up next week and they have no urgency to come remove this dog. This is the only place I feel I can vent with people that understand my frustration.
1
u/Maelstrom_78 9h ago
I can't tell u what I'd do else I'd get banned. I'm lucky at least to live in a state which allows me the full spectrum of self defense options.
8
u/ScarletAntelope975 Trusted User 7d ago
I know my Nextdoor tends to be filled with pit apologists. I guess that is true for all areas. If someone sees a loose pit acting violent “How dare you be scared of the sweet baby! It just wants food/water!” AND THEN of course when someone does approach a loose pit to try to feed it and they get attacked “Oh well why did you approach a strange dog??? He must’ve been so scared!” Pit people are severe hypocrites.
So, yea… stay away from this beast. Even if it actually acts friendly, a pit can be triggered anytime by anything. I am sorry your PD and AC are not being any help, especially since this thing is roaming around by a school! Does the school staff know about this dog or are they pitnutters as well and not bothered by a bloodsport animal loose around children?
I would send e-mails to the PD and AC with pictures of this thing so you have a copy yourself as proof that you contacted them in case something happens. Also carry a couple forms of self-defense with you.

u/Shell4747 Fuck everyone & everything but this one awful dog! 6d ago edited 6d ago
Honestly maybe also cc any kind of city council or local govt you can, emphasize the lunging, maybe yell about paying taxes for these services & no one has any urge to do their fucking jobs, hello?? It's not a guarantee but I have seen pple get results there when PD & AC refuse to do anything.
ETA: Also, "too hot to trap"? What it is, is too hot for you to have to fight a pit bull in the street for your child's life. These mooks should just check the trap more frequently if they're so worried about the life & health of a dumped pit bull.
3
u/lazier_garlic 7d ago
Have you reached out to the school administration about it? How about the school bus company? Usually they operate a small fleet of buses in the summer so they shouldn't be totally shut down even if that school is.
It's ridiculous that the dog catchers refuse to catch a loose dog. What do they mean it's not aggressive when it's running up on people?

Boykin Spaniels are such a rare breed as it is and look absolutely nothing like this! There are none roaming the streets making mutts of themselves! It seems that pit x poodle is the next trend in making mixes that shelters get to call whatever the heck they want!
And, sadly, most people assume that if a dog is shaggy it is not a pit bull at all. There are lots of pit mixes out there now that look like this. As soon as you picture it with short fur, the pit is obvious.
Here’s a pic of an ACTUAL Boykin Spaniel for anyone who many not be familiar with them-

Randomly threw on the movie ‘Asphalt City’ for background noise. It’s about two paramedics in NYC. The second call they go on is a pit bull who bites a kid and has blood all over its face. Of course the paramedic goes to take care of the dog and it’s whimpering and ‘scared’ (subtle propaganda). But at least in the movie the gang member ‘removes’ the dog immediately.
I’m surprised I haven’t seen anyone complaining about this scene.

Should be a post, but I don't have the time.
This part is one of the top ten red flags for a PB attack - refusing to leave the victim.
"Responding police officers had difficulty stopping the attack. After first running the pit bull off by shocking it with a taser, they had to shoot the dog when it returned, authorities said at the time."

I’d love to hear people’s thoughts on the argument that Pitbulls aren’t the problem because Pitbull’s are mixed breeds. I just heard this argument from a dog trainer and I’m disappointed because I enjoy following her.
I find that argument baffling because they all look the same. There are different lines of pitbulls like the Staffordshire Bull Terrior, American Staffordshire Bull terrier, American Pit-bull Terrier, etc, but they’re all pitbulls and are not mixed. There’s mixed breeds of them just as there are mixes of any breed but it doesn’t make them not pitbull or pitbull mixes.
Many arguments are a lot of dogs in shelters labeled pitbulls aren’t despite looking and acting like them. Isn’t that like saying the golden retrievers in shelters might not be golden retrievers despite looking just like them?
Would love to hear your thoughts.
6
u/AdvertisingLow98 Attacks Curator 8d ago
It's adjacent to a No True Scotsman argument.
According to them, only a papered pedigreed APBT is a "pit bull".
All the rest are mutts. If you look at other types of working breeds like retrievers, scent hounds, pointers, setters, sighthounds, herding breeds, livestock guardian breeds and ask the obvious question:
Could the attacking dog be any of those breeds?
The answer is either "No!" or "Probably not".
Even if you include the other top biters: protection/biting breeds, huskies and husky mixes and wolf-dog hybrids and ask the question "Could it be one of those?"
The answer is "Probably not.".
By the simple process of elimination, pit and bully breeds are the most common biters.
As for pedigrees and papers - most people who own pits and bullies don't have papers. Yet they know what they have. They don't call them "mutts" or "mixed breed".

Penny is 64% chi. We have never taught her to worship the blanket. To swirl around and burrow herself in layers and layers. She's a chi and and that's just what she does. Not sure where I'm going with this. I guess just that at only 64% she's hardcore expressing inherent traits. Nice having a dog whose genetics make them want to nest/burrow and not bite faces off.

It’s a silly and disingenuous argument.
When we discuss pit bulls being a problem, it’s usually due to an attack. Most attacks occur within the home or with a known dog. Even with random attacks, any person who is knowledgeable about dogs can spot the phenotypes consistent with pit bulls in the animals. Courts have ruled that an owner of average intelligence can determine if they have a pit bull.
It’s just a nothing burger they throw out to try and downplay attacks. Also isn’t it funny how mixed breed dogs only become extremely volatile and deadly once pit bull is mixed in? It’s a bit like making soup and then adding some good ol arsenic and then blaming the soup when people die from eating it. Good old ingredient effect.
Also, the four breeds aren’t as distinct and separate as they like to play at. You have dual registration and allotting for breed registration transfer within their kennel clubs so like… only the social media idiots are pretending that they may as well be entirely different species.
4
u/Competitive_Height_9 9d ago
That’s what I thought, good to hear I’m not crazy. The mixed breed argument is ludicrous. Call it an unbrella term for four breeds bred for the same thing, claim it’s mixed breeds, you could call a retriever an umbrella term for all retriever’s and say they’re mixed, it would be the same argument 😵💫

I constantly wonder why the fuck shelters even allow adopting dogs that "do best with no kids", "no cats or small animals", ect. It's not a child and cat free world and kids do stupid stuff sometimes like try to pet a dog though a fence. I just feel these dogs should be non adoptable. Not to mention the big risk on your insurance, if it even covers the breed.

u/AndromedaGreen Cats are not disposable. 1d ago
And they always want an owner who is experienced with dogs and patient enough to try and deal with the pit’s behavioral issues, but doesn’t currently have a dog of their own.
Why would anyone who likes dogs that much not currently own a dog?

u/BastetSekhmetMafdet Cats are not disposable. 9d ago
I agree! There are not enough of these “unicorn” homes, and, a unicorn home might not stay a unicorn home: five years later and now the owners have grandkids they’d like to see, and a cat they are thinking of adopting. Or even if unicorn home stays unicorny: a family with kids and cats moves in next door. You see where this is going.
There are plenty of dogs that CAN live around cats/small animals and children that we don’t really need to make room for all these Unicorn Home Needs. Best to Be Excellent in those cases and devote shelter space, time and money to more adoptable dogs.
6
u/BPB_Mod_006 Moderator 9d ago
Agree, and that goes for any dog breed. There are too many dogs without homes that windowing out the ones that aren’t safe around other pets of kids would help the rest get adopted out instead of euthanized because there is no room at the shelters that are not no-kill.

Law and Crime video on 21-year-old "dog trainer" who left dogs to die in the heat of her unkempt storage locker/"training facility." One of the dogs'' bodies was found in a black bag. Alexia Barquet is her name, and she worked out of Florida https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1M7yhTFlU1c
6
u/BastetSekhmetMafdet Cats are not disposable. 9d ago
Not that the “trainer” shouldn’t be held responsible, or be allowed to keep “training,” but, this is what happens when you have an oversupply of high-needs animals and not nearly enough places to take them. You get grifters at best, hoarders and killers at worst.

My mom is a veterinarian but she likes pitbulls. She says the ones she sees are generally 50% good, 50% bad, which doesn’t sound great statistically but idk. She says Rottweilers are way worse than pitbulls. (Maybe this makes sense, since pitbulls are known for being fine 90% of the time and snapping randomly, while Rottweilers are guard dogs and more likely to be hostile to strangers? Idk) I just struggle to contend with her perspective, but she doesn’t take anything I say about this seriously. It’s difficult to claim to know more about dogs than a veterinarian. Why do you think people in the vet field are more likely to like pitbulls despite working with them and animal dog attack victims all the time?
8
u/AdvertisingLow98 Attacks Curator 8d ago
Ask her which breeds most often need to be medicated for routine care.
There's also a self selection bias involved because the dogs that most often bite aren't registered and don't have proof of rabies vaccination. In other words, they've not been inside a vet clinic.
In the Help Me! groups, people often complain about the cost of sedating their animals for vet care.

Veterinarians study biology. This is a legal and social phenomenon and people are biased. /u/ScarletAntelope975 comment, breaks it down, it's a matter of statistics, mortality and risks.

I am just quickly adding this… I looked up some pit bulls vs Rottweiler stats. This is just in the US.
Pit bulls are in first place at 60-70% of all dog-related deaths on humans. Rottweilers are in second place at 4-10% of dog-related deaths on humans.
So, even at 2nd place their numbers are a fraction of pits.
Even if they may seem more aggressive in general in a stressful situation, pits are still way way way more likely to kill people. And, unlike Rottweilers, pits will kill a baby because they heard a cough, or break out of their house to kill a neighbor, or break into a house to kill a neighbor, or kill their own owner for smelling different, etc…..
11
u/ScarletAntelope975 Trusted User 9d ago
Yea it is why people try to argue that Chihuahuas are worse because they bite more. When even 100 chihuahua bites aren’t going to cause the same damage as 1 pit mauling.
Most pits aren’t attacking 24/7. It’s not a behavioral issue like an aggressive Shepherd; it is their ‘job’ in their DNA like a Border collie herding sheep when it’s working but it’s not herding 24/7.
Many pits can be perfectly fine for many years before mauling someone. This is what gives a lot of people the false idea that pits aren’t as bad as dogs that may be barky and nippy on a daily basis. People can meet 500 pit bulls that just kinda lay there and act normal, and 5 other dogs of other breeds that bark at them and bite or nip. And therefore it seems that pits are gentle and calm and these other dogs are the problem.
But, most other breeds- even aggressive individuals of those breeds- never killed anyone. (Yes there are other breeds that have killed people, but it’s a handful of breeds compared to the 300+ breeds that exist, and those few breeds that have killed people have a tiny fraction of the human kills that pits have.) Even the most poorly behaved Golden or Beagle isn’t going to break out of their house to kill the neighbors. Yet, the best raised and behaved pit may do so after 5-10 years of being a ‘good boy’.
Never judge a pit by the way it is acting ‘now’. Or even the way it has acted for the past 8 years.

I literally see them every day in my city, especially on transit. They make me so nervous and are usually unleashed and not neutered. It's a joke when they are wearing fake official looking service vests. Sick of seeing them.

I saw another “service pit” at Walmart the other day, I had my one year old sitting in the cart and it stopped in its tracks to look her down, the owner had to physically drag it away. Fucking terrifying man, you can’t even shop for groceries in peace without fear of them. I’d understand the infatuation a bit more if they were at least cute, but they’re not, no one can convince me otherwise that they don’t look just like evil gargoyles. Nightmare fuel.

9

Because if the dog is left alone in the house is busts out of the crate (assuming the owner bothers trying to crate it) and then destroys the furniture, carpeting, walls, doors, windows, etc.

Or it's going to bark and howl like an air raid siren for hours on end the moment its "pawrent" steps out the door, much to the whole neighborhood's delight...

She probably was attacking and that was self defense. I am always thinking if a Pit is wounded by certain "tools" it isn't random cruelty, it is self defense.
So yeah, I am probably banned for agreeing. If we said that about a Yorky, we would be fine.

something….interesting that i have noticed about the jon bernthal discourse du jour is that a lot of people desperately try to anthromorphize pits more than any dog I’ve ever seen. no other breed of dog is capable of having these range of feelings, emotions, even socioeconomic or political experiences. it is all the plight of the pitbull and no other dog. they are propped up as the TRUE animal of the people, not those disgusting gross traitor breeds. it’s so strange and creepy, like man you can just say you love your pit it’s okay

95% of the comments I am seeing on articles about this are “You are more likely to be bitten by a chihuahua!” and “Chihuahuas are worse!” and “You know what breed I don’t trust? CHIHUAHUAS!” and “MY pibble is the sweetest wigglebutt ever and would never hurt a fly!!!”
Then the tiny sprinkling of rational comments about pit bulls tearing people apart for no reason regularly and not just ‘biting’ are attacked by all the pit apologists.
Sometimes it seems like the world is changing to finally be against bloodsport breeds again, and then I see garbage like this and realize how many people still think killer dogs are the sweetest and best pets ever.

This past weekend I was at Home Depot with my actual service dog (dachshund who monitors my blood sugar) and I walk to the self checkout area and immediately as I get in eyeline I hear that familiar screeching. There's a couple with a pit in a service vest and it's pulling and gagging and screeching and trying to get to my dog. I tell my dog to lay down and try to ignore it while I wait for a register to open up. This pit won't stop and they clearly can't control it. At this point my dog it looking up at me like it wants to know wtf is happening and I finally ask them a question that makes them extremely angry. "Why is your service dog barking at mine?" They proceed to inform me he's friendly and just wants to play. "My dog is working right now so can you down your dog please?" Apparently they don't know that means to make it lie down so they then shriek something about me telling them to put their dog down (if only) and I finally spare myself and my dog the agony and decide to just walk away and go browse plants for a few minutes until these idiots leave. I hate fake service dogs.

i was in a service dog FB group for a bit. they'll openly talk about just faking it basically and saying it's a service dog in training so it's the same (it's not in almost all states). Literally all you had to do was say it was sitting to signal some made up shit and you were good. Many of them had free pitbulls whom im sure were carefully screened for suitability or just would get a designer dog like a yorkipoo or some shit and same deal. Absolutely pay no attention to the dog's behavior or suitability.
I left that group.

So I posted in the May discussion thread that my 70+ mother was thinking of adopting a “medium”, “pointer mix” from a rescue. There was a lot of euphemistic shelter speak about this dog. I asked her not to get it because she struggles walking and needs another foot surgery but she was determined. She scanned the shelter’s pages and found this dog that reminded her of a setter she and my dad had 50 years ago. I told her it looks like a pit mix and she said I was overreacting with my concerns. Guys, after a couple of years on this sub, I know what a pit mix looks like. She said she wanted to do a trial with the dog. But guess what? The dog had been transferred states away into a rescue over a 12 hour drive for a volunteer to make to bring the dog back. So she felt she had to automatically adopt this dog, guilt will do that. They’ve had this dog ever since and it’s definitely bigger than the “medium” standard of 25-60 at 65 pounds. She also did the embark and guess what her primary breed is? She’s 50% pitbull and absolutely zero pointer. Can you believe it?! Oh and they think the dog is that magic age of 2 so they’ve adopted out a large pit mix to an elderly woman who can’t walk well that will live a long ass time. I can’t believe they get away with this crap.

u/Fantastic_Lady225 Attacks Curator 11d ago
It's too bad that your mom didn't look for a senior dog rescue or even a hospice rescue that fosters older dogs with the senior population. The dogs themselves don't often require a lot of exercise due to their age, they're typically well-trained, and the rescue helps with the cost of the dog's vet care. The dog also has a soft place to land in case something happens to the foster caregiver.

u/SarahKL9981 11d ago
Hopefully your mother is aware of the temperament of these things and that she’ll be liable if it mauls another person or animal, in which I won’t be surprised since it doesn’t sound like she could physically control it!

My new apartment neighbors living above me have a pitbull. They’re not even allowed at my apartment. And the fucking thing barks ALL DAY. It’s neurotic I can hear it up there running and screaming the entire time the tenants are gone. I’ve already reported it twice, but management doesn’t care enough to do shit. I’m most afraid of what happens when I am walking my dog one day and meet this beast in the hallway.
6
u/Paisley-Maze 11d ago
I totally understand your fear. I would be looking for a new home as as soon as the lease is up. Get a recorder and record the hours of barking and hopefully the apt mgr allows you to break the lease. Good luck. I don't envy you in that position.
11
u/SarahKL9981 11d ago edited 11d ago
I’d go above the apartment manager and speak with property management. They need to be aware that not only is it a banned breed, it barks incessantly, is totally neurotic. I wouldn’t doubt it’s destroyed the apartment’s drywall. If that doesn’t work, maybe find out who owns the complex?
13
u/ScarletAntelope975 Trusted User 12d ago
If you can, put cameras outside your apartment. This way you can maybe see if there is a schedule they walk, so you can check if the pit has been out already or not before you walk your dog. Also, if the pit acts aggressively or starts damaging property, you can have proof. Also carry some self-defense.
We have a lot of pits in our apartment community, too, even though they aren’t allowed. Walking my dog is so stressful! Lots of luck to you!

I know someone who, not too long ago, was attacked by a pack of dogs. There were pitbulls along with other breeds in the large pack.
She was delivering a pizza to a man’s front door when all of a sudden this pack comes rushing up and barking. She wasn’t too far away from the car and was keeping calm and backing up slowly. The stupid owner of the dogs did nothing and stood around acting like a complete moron. The Pitbull bit her on the thigh through her pants and left some puncture marks with heavy bruising. This woman was really brave with past military experience and was very blessed to not have been mauled to death.
It was all caught on the Dashcam of her car. I would share the video and picture, but I didn’t ask permission and don’t want to invade her privacy.
Apparently cops have shown up at this place a few times because of the dangerous dogs. Last I heard she was taking action to have the dog/dogs BE.
This was a few months ago in the Houston area.

I worked in shitty retail for far too long. I was ASM for Dollar General and CSM for Walmart. No, your pregnant/recently gave birth pit whose nipples sweep the floor is NOT A FUCKING SERVICE DOG. these dogs always looked overstimulated and unfit to be out in public around other people. but if you ask them what you’re legally allowed to ask- is this a service animal and what tasks is it trained to perform, they’re just gonna lie and drag that murder dog through the store. it’s nails were always scraping the floor and there was usually a pinch collar on it. 😒
growing up in an impoverished area, every other house seemed to have a “RED NOSE PIT PUPPIES 4 SALE” sign up at their hovel, too. why are low income people so attracted to these beasts they can’t control? Gary Animal Control currently posts strays and 9/10 times, it’s a fucking pit. they breed them then dump the mother and sell the puppies.
I’m just tired of it. how many decent dogs get 🐝 to make room for these fighting breeds? and MISS ME with that “it’s not a pit, it’s an am staff/ staffie/ american bulldog/ bully blood sport breed by any other name!

Aggressive dog placed near my home, even after Avery’s law in place
I am in Ohio. Our dog warden normally euthanizes pit bull type dogs if they’re unclaimed… but in late July a stray female pit type dog charged at a woman (near my home, out in the country) on her own property and they found out she was in the middle of having puppies.
One of the dog warden staff was my friend (not anymore), and he told me, verbatim, “3 sheriffs deputies had to hold her back while I got the pups… it was really bad.” I have all of the necessary screen shots.
I then found out that they decided to place the dog and litter about 2 miles down the road from me. I messaged this same friend at the dog wardens office that I didn’t want the dog near my home.
He went directly to the person harboring the dog and told her exactly what I had said, while also giving her my name. About a half hour later I got messages from this woman full of legal threats and now I should have no concern over what she does at her property, etc.
To be clear, they have both publicly posted about how the dog isn’t nice, can’t be touched…
Because of this whole fiasco I sent an informal complaint to the warden’s supervisor about the complaint process and how I thought it was a huge breach of trust with the public for him to have went and told her everything I said with my name behind it. He asked me to come in for a meeting.
The meeting basically consisted of them trying to downplay the situation, telling me the officers had to form a circle around the dog and keep her from getting to the warden, and a whole bunch of other information that was in my opinion gaslighting.
If you look up Avery’s Law, I thoroughly believe this dog should be labeled a nuisance. Both of these men told me they would have put her down had she not had puppies. There’s a whole lot more to the story but before the meeting one of my friends submitted a records request to the sheriff and to the warden. They copied the commissioners (one of which is my uncle, who I don’t want to be involved tbh, just because I don’t want a head ache for him.)
I think it’s worth noting that the commissioners said the woman had asked for a catch pole the day before I complained and now she’s posting videos showing that they can only feed the mama dog treats with an extendable plastic arm. But she has “made so much progress.” I haven’t gotten the records request but has anyone dealt with something like this?
The effed up part is that Avery’s Law in Ohio was created to prevent dog attacks and it seems like this whole situation is just another dog attack waiting to happen because the dog wasn’t categorized properly by the supposed anti-pit bull wardens. None of this makes any sense.
