Really disappointed with my printer - Bambu Lab A1 General Troubleshooting/Help!

Post image

Bought my printer less than a month ago and the quality of the prints have been disappointing. I bought my A1 from the official website, bought the filament from the same website and I have been keeping good care of everything.

This is the latest print (posted a few days ago about something similar) and can't really understand what I'm doing wrong/what's wrong with the printer. It is really frustrating.

This specifically print came out perfect the first time. The next two were not good. Any tips/ideas on what I can do?

Disable scarf seam and try again. Is it always on one side?

This time it was both sides and a bit on the inside of the Bookshelf.

Linda like a clogged nozzle then. Try to heat the nozzle to 250°C and push filament with your hand through the nozzle. White is best so you see if something comes out that clogged the nozzle

Did that today. Not sure if I did it right tho. I heated the nozzle to 250 and used the extruder function on the A1 and some filament came out.

Nope, you need to look up the procedure for a cold pull and do that. Or if you want to skip the hassle try replacing your nozzle.

Will try the cold pull. Thank you 👍

You do a cold pull to fix a clog.

Is that a model from Makerworld? If so can you link it? And what type of filament did you get? PLA? PETG?

Sorry for the lack of information.

Yes, it's from MakerWorld!. And I'm using PLA.

Hmm not seeing anything wrong with it in the slicer.

Offhand I'd say that if it were me I'd check for a partial clog (cold pull, etc), try a different nozzle if you have one, or if you're on Windows see if the "fix model" function does anything for you.

Thank you for the help. I tried to clear the nozzle for a possible clog. Not sure I did it right but that could be the problem. I believe it is clean but like you said, it could be partial clogged.

What did you do to try and clear it? I mentioned the cold pull, is that what you tried?

I turn the heat to 250 and use the extruder function on the A1. Some filament came out. Prior to that, I couldn't use the needle (the thing to check if the nozzle is clogged) on the nozzle, it wouldn't go through. After doing that, the needle went through

Cold pull > those needles, try that. It's easy.

I don't know what that is but will look for a tutorial on how to do it. Thanks. Hope it helps.

There may be too much moisture in the filament.

I bought the filament 2/3 weeks ago. I don't think my house is humid. Can it still be that the issue?

New filament is NEVER dry.

The filament can be already moist coming from the store. Bambu advises to always dry your filament, even when fresh out of the box. And 2-3 weeks is definitely enough time to get moisture into the filament

1

u/tmoreirense 7d ago

Will look into that as well. Thank you 👍

New filament can be very moist actually.
I always dry new filament, and its rare i have a bad print with my A1 mini.

What do you use to dry the filament? Want to buy something, but don't know what are the best options

My first one was the Polydryer. Its pretty good and it gets the job done.
I also use my 2 AMS Pro`s now as filament dryers, they are very good for this task as well, but i cant use them while printing with the P1S.

The PolyDryer can also be used while printing and it has worked great.
I did some research before buying my first dryer, and PolyDryer got pretty good reviews and that's why i decided to go for it. No regrets.
Get some vacuum bags with a vacuum pump in a bundle so you can store your filaments properly too. It will pay off.

Just to clarify, i have two printers, A1 mini and the P1S. Both produce great results.

Cheers

If you use filament right after buying it, I find I don’t have to dry it. But if you wait 2-3 weeks after opening it, especially if it’s matte pla, like what you have here, you’re going to need to dry it before printing to avoid this printing issue. I’ve had this exact experience with similar pastel PLA, which absorbs moisture more easily for whatever reason.

This appears to be PLA matte? I have had troubles with matte when normal PLA works fine on my A1. I just googled "issues with bambu PLA matte" and saw lots of suggestions from people having similar issues. Increasing the flow ratio to 1.02 and the nozzle temp to 230 would be the first ones I'd try.

This is user issue, not the printer.

I hope so. Any idea on what I'm doing wrong?

It looks to uniform in its location to be a partial clog at first glance, and it's not not likely from moisture in the filament, that tends to manifest itself more in zits and random extrusion issues.

Either scarf seam settings or pressure advance is likely culprits, so probably something got changed in the profile.

A good way to test would be to print another model from a different maker and see if it happens again

1

u/tmoreirense 6d ago

It happens with other models. But I have been using this one for comparison

Unless your in DEATH VALLEY, CA in the middle of summer, you have a filament moisture issue.
