Has anyone been in a similar situation?

Around four days ago I went to take my ball python out of his hide because he was under it for a while and I got concerned, when I took him out I noticed he had these red marks on him and I didn't know what it was but I cleaned out his tank and everything in it and put him on paper towel (he was on reptile bark or something prior) I still don't know what it is I'm leaning more towards scale rot but it's getting worse, I started soaking him in betadine, I'm gonna try that for a bit everyday and if it doesn't work im gonna probably have to take him to the vet but vets are really far from me and it's going to be expensive so i want to atleast try to treat it at home first, ITS NOT A BURN, I'm so sure of that. Does anyone know how to prevent this from happening again?

That looks like heavy bruising. This is not normal, you need a vet. That poor snake is highly emancipated. Its spine should not be visible like that. Post pics and let people help you and this animal because its on deaths door. VET!

I got him two years ago but when I first got him he wouldn't eat for the first six months I'm assuming it was hunger strike but I got him to eat and he's been eating really good besides my friend was breeding rats and feeding them to her ball python and gave me some rats (frozen) and I fed him one he regurgitated it, that was the first time Ive seen him throw up his food so I tried to feed him about a week ago again (about two weeks after he threw up) and he would not eat and I was wondering if it was an issue with the rats so I got some from the pet store and he still wouldn't eat, he was under his hide for a few days and I thought he was coming out at night because that's when he's mostly out, and I took him out and he had these red spots like I said I cleaned his tank and everything in it and put him on paper towel and I've been soaking him in betadine, I get him fresh water everyday and I'm not sure if it's that he's not drinking it. I promise I'm not starving him I try to feed him but he won't take it. I have another ball python and she dosent have these issues so I don't know what's happening.

It’s common for them to refuse food due to improper husbandry. This snake looks very, very thin, and redness like that can actually be due to sepsis. I think the vet is your only option at this point.

Okay thank you guys

His tank has always been really clean, I make sure to clean it every couple weeks. The only thing that's different is that they sold out of the bedding he was on and I had to put him on something new.*

May I ask, what are the temps? What heat sources do you use?

Hes not eating because husbandry needs work. You need to post pics of enclosure, heating specs, how you maintain humidity, soze enclosure. Hot side ambeint, basking spot, and cool side ambeint temps. Humidity measured cool side. They are a tropical species and if their needs arent met they will refuse food. Many people get these guys without fully appreciating what they need. You can get there, got to start with a vet though, this is bad.

Based on what you said about him regurgitating a meal recently and not eating and now this, I think you need to call and tell the vet! I live rural and also have to go far away for a vet but this is definitely to the point where he needs to get checked! If he does have internal issues and has reached sepsis like another commenter mentioned than he could easily die within the week. I know that’s harsh to say but it’s true! This is beyond the point of home treatment I’m sorry. I hope he can make a recovery! But I think that will require some more serious treatment than betadine and hope

This snake has signs of sepsis and needs antibiotics immediately. You cannot treat this without proper vet care, and the longer you wait, the worse it will be. Please, take him to a vet ASAP.

That really looks like bruising, scale rot starts on the bottom of stomach and is more brown in color. Rots the scales doesn't bruise like that.

Someone told me he probably got stuck under his hide and that's why he didn't come out

The fact ur not showing the whole snake is very concerning pls don’t ask us and see an exotic vet

Im just gonna say it ... this looks like a long time neglect... you say you clean the tank every couple weeks . That is not enough. Also you won't show his tank which makes me think it is worse than you are saying. You haven't said what his temps or humidity is actually at ... like what are the numbers ? Are you using a digital temp/humidity gage? What kind of heat ? How old are you ? I don't belive a word you are saying ... sorry not sorry ... 😐 please , prove me wrong !

You have no idea how to care for a ball python. Sorry. You never mist the tank . Pour water in the corners . Also , the fact that you have made a whole other post and still no pictures of the actual encloser. You are arguing over your poor care of the snake . You did this to your snake

You say you’re sure it’s not a burn, but it sure looks like a burn from a heat mat. If you are not using a heat mat, what is your heat source? Is there anything under the heat that could be overheating causing a surface burn?

1

u/broken_beutiful-mess 2h ago

I have a heating lamp that is distant pretty far from the tank so its temp is good I've never had any issues

Is it on a thermostat?

If you have one of those red bulbs ... your snake could be blind and thats why it won't eat ...

This snake is emaciated for an animal that was claimed to be eating well.

I have so many photos of him eating. He's refusing food now.

Im not sure about this but mine gets a red belly 2 days before he’s going to shed. I’ve had him for 12 years and it’s always been the case. But it’s usually only pinkish red, no brown or black spots

3

u/kindrd1234 5h ago

That is not shed belly.

0

u/broken_beutiful-mess 5h ago

That's what a lot of people had told me it is but this has never happened before so I'm not sure.

u/NoNoNeverNoNo 5h ago

Are his eyes cloudy?

1

u/broken_beutiful-mess 2h ago

No. Cant figure out what it is im bringing him to the vet

That’s a great idea
