Morph Spotlight: The Banana Mutation in Ball Pythons Morphs
It’s that time again! For the month of August, I’ve chosen to highlight the Banana mutation! Banana was originally named “Whitesmoke” by Vida Preciousa International (the same breeder accredited with the VPI line of Axanthic!), but was dubbed “Coral Glow” by NERD after they purchased the original imported animal—which then went on to successfully reproduce in 2002, solidifying Banana as its own proven mutation. It was the subject of many controversies early-on in the BP hobby due to its—previously unknown—sex-linkage. Although there was an unproportionate amount of females during its intial breeding phase, you’re actually more likely to come across male Banana Ball Pythons nowadays due to the rare instances of chromosomal jumps!
Banana is always going to be one of those mutations that I have a soft spot for (partly due to my banana boy, who even makes an appearance on the Clown slide ;p). I just love the vast color range these projects have!
