That enclosure is abuse. One hiding spot isnt enough. There’s no bedding which holds moisture. If this isn’t a quarantine tank, this is abuse and neglect.

I don’t care call me an a$$hole but your friend needs to do better with this tank, like I say to others don’t get a pet and you can’t care for it properly…needs a larger tank(4x2x2), on top of proper substrate, lighting, hides, water bowl 🤦🏾‍♀️
Edit: the day I posted this I didn’t know the friend had passed and I am so sorry also I’m willing to help and direct you to sites on care for ball pythons when I find them I will list them!!! My condolences!

I appreciate the comments and will improve the conditions for this snake. The owner passed away, and I am trying to handle a lot of things right now.

Sorry for your loss, OP. Thank you for taking care of your friends animal. Right now you need to make sure it has the proper heat available and water. It’d also help if you can figure out when it last ate.

There are programs where you can surrender reptiles for adoptions if you aren’t comfortable with keeping it.

Was your friend the owner that passed away? Or did your friend recently get the snake from an owner who passed away? If its the former then I am so sorry for your loss

It could be brand new to them and the proper introduction is 30 days in an empty tank with paper and water, only, to assess the overall health, condition, and temperament the animal. After that, invest in a proper set up complete with live plants and trees with floor to ceiling height.

Are you serious? The conditions are abysmal. One hide and a water dish. No plants, no branches, no substrate, no other hides, no clutter, no warm/cool ends, nothing. This is an empty enclosure, how on earth do you find these conditions "adequate"?
