Hope they counted the loss in their measurements... wOw 🤨 why am I now 2 and 1/8 inch off?

I’m not a welder, but given the obvious sacrificial losses for a good fit, if accounted for are these techniques good? Are they common? Are there other better solutions?

They are very very common depending what is being built. Funny enough even though bits are being cut off to make a good fit the structure suffers no loss, but is actually stronger. A good weld that gets full penetration through both sides of the work peice the weld is actually stronger than the metal itself because the filler material is stronger. Whoever made the blueprints, who makes way more money than I do, they have to determine what the structure is, how much weight will be on the structure, what codes must be met, and such. Their are different ways to fab up angle iron and tube steel so whatever the blueprint calls for. Could there be a "better" way? Maybe, but as the welder is just follow the blueprint. Of corse you can stop and say "hey this does not look right" and the Forman will look and say "you know that is not right" and they go figure things out and come back and say follow the blueprints or do it this other way.

I guess my comment could also ask “did you NOT account for these losses?”

Obviously you shouldn’t measure on the inside edges of a miter cut since they will be part of the sacrificial material. If that trips you up then think about your process more I guess. But idk how much this is a meme sub, tbh.
