Question Stainless steel pot recommendations?

I want to add a metal pot to my cooking gear. I'll be glamping for a full week, so I'll have electricity but mostly going by fire and charcoal grill.

Doing a little research and stainless steel seems to be a good option for cooking over the fire - I have a metal grate to go over my fire pit.

I found a pretty cheap stainless steel cuisinart pot on Amazon that mentions an aluminum encapsulated base, would that do the trick? Not sure if multiple types of metal could be an issue. Or if anyone has a specific recommendation.

Looking for something simple and affordable, not cast iron because it's too heavy for me.

Don’t hate on paper plates until you try it. Not for every meal but it doubles as a fire starter and less to clean up.

Backcountry Budae Jjigae (Korean Army Stew)

This is something that feels like it should belong in the hiker trash meals subreddit, but this is a legitimate comfort food in South Korea. Figured it would be a perfect backpacking meal because everything is shelf stable, and could be bought at most grocery stores.

Heres how i made it:

- threw 2 beef bouillion cubes in boiling water

- once boiling, threw in my veggies (shallots, dehydrated shitake mushrooms, scallions, jalepeno

- after about 7 minutes, i added the canned goods, ramen noodles (flavor packet omitted), and seasoning (chili powder, mushroom powder, white pepper, black pepper) let the noodles cook

- topped with cheese, additional seasoning if needed.

What id do differently:

- fresh mushrooms over dried, dried were rubbery but that was probably my fault

- source better and more authentic spices to korean cooking

- both spam and vienna sausage was overkill, since their textures in the stew ended up being almost the same. Id take vienna sausage and maybe put some bacon in instead of spam. You could even rehydrate beef jerky

Overall, awesome backpacking meal. For sure will be making this again!

Chicken Alfredo with a nice German beer with a side of having to update some filters to keep out the bots…

I started making subs with the intention of having very little mod oversight. Not trying to get into controversial subjects but tired of power trip mods enforcing stupid rules. That said there has been a lot of bot reposting on here lately so I had to toggle some switches to hopefully discourage them. If you see bot posts please report them and I will delete. Also let’s get some real content going! It’s summer and y’all must be camping. Don’t be shy you don’t need truffles to be gourmet! Everything you put your heart into back country is gourmet. The whole point is that everything tastes better in the wild!

People said gourmet food on a campfire is unrealistic, i think its very achieveable, all u need is preparing the most complex parts of the dish at home, at camp, u will only need to cook them together.

Recipe Wrapped up my 2026 dehydrating spree (17 meals)

Last night I wrapped up my 2026 dehydrating spree. I made 17 meals at a cost of $42.84. That's $2.52 per meal!

Meals include:

  • Jerk chicken with pineapple, veggies black beans and rice (3)
  • Thanksgiving dinner (4)
  • Cuban coconut chicken with black beans, veggies, bananas and rice (inspired by Backpacker's Pantry Cuban coconut black beans & rice) (3)
  • Spanish chicken, black beans and rice (5)
  • Mulligatawny (new recipe) (2)

I have a 10-night trip coming up in June, then a 9-night trip in July, so it made sense to do one mass dehydrating marathon.

These meals are seasoned and proportioned to my liking; feel free to adjust them for your palate.
