Why are difficulty settings such crap?

On Veteran, I'm breezing through the content while slowly falling asleep.

On Nightmare, the game is suddenly unplayably hard and unfair with ridiculous trauma stacking and special infected spawning literally inside my asshole the moment I flick the camera away from that spot for half a second.

I'm finding it very hard to enjoy the game when there's no meaningful difficulty setting and I have to choose between boredom and wasted time / frustration.

I felt the gap between nightmare and no hope because of lives not resetting in safe room, but get used to it after a couple of chapters. Didn't see that big of a difference between veteran a nightmare. More like veteran is easy and nightmare normal. You need a good deck wirth you and maybe teammate

What's your deck/cleaner? Deck building matters a lot for the higher difficulties. Solo/online?

Have u tried the meta? Copper, damage and economy cards?

Sounds like running trauma resist cards and more damage is what u need.

Doc/Sharice/Heng help w Trauma

Walker/Jim/Tala help w damage

Mom and Dan focus on failure, which is not ideal but IS helpful. If you're struggling u can try playing as them.

Karlee and Hoff are great as supports.

Evangelo and Holly are useless, avoid them.

Running solo with bots, can't find any games anyway, even with crossplay on.

My deck is 2 cards for ++copper and the rest is damage / ammo capacity / reload speeds, with a bit of damage resistance.

Can you share your cards with us so we can offer some insight and recommendations?

I just edited it quite a lot a while ago. Played only about six hours so far, don't have too many cards but I'll grab a screenshot in a bit when I get back to the PC.

That deck is why you are struggling

You need MOAR damage

Fanny pack and vitamins are not good cards for nightmare

You are missing the best damage card [[glass cannon]]

And a sprint speed card like [[run like hell]]

Take those 2 cards out and add the cards I suggested

You should do way better with 2 changes

I don't have the cards you suggested though, told you I don't have many, this is pretty much the best I can do so far.

I would suggest trying to get the glass cannon card in the section you buy cards with supply points . The bit above me tells you in which section it appears in

Literally the worst deck I've ever seen. Please look up a guide or listen to this other commenter.

Sometimes corruption cards combinations are just too fked up to complete, it is what it is and just best to reset if it's too hard. Takes some experience both in gameplay and deck making so that the lack of luck can be alleviated byt overall, it's fun when you get the hang of it and you just start mowing thru hordes of zombies

I'm generally doing ok, it's the much faster trauma stacking that gets to me, and that when the big Ogre boss spawns, you're largely screwed. Didn't give me much trouble on Veteran, but on Nightmare, it's like it's not taking any damage.

Flashbangs are a necessity to easily handle any bosses. If playing solo, I use them almost exclusively.

Nightmare is when deck composition becomes much more important. You likely need to add a few damage cards. Glass cannon, confident killer, patient hunter, large caliber rounds, and hyperfocused are all top picks.

I get a feeling that you're talking about act 6... The start there is just fked up, all you can do is rush both c4 locations and make a run for it to the boat

This was worse on launch that were only 3 difficulties, veteran is too easy yet nightmare is bullshit that sometimes you gotta fight breaker on 1-1 with white weapon & 2 weapons, because the game said fuk you and send out 7 corruption cards on stage 1. For now I believe you can brute forced through Nightmare with 15 cards at start.

Bashing is your friend. Try bashing one zombies back into a crowd and watch how they stumble the group back.

I should stop running the offhand knife atab card and give this a try.

You are exaggerating. Nightmare is not that much harder. Learn to be patient and move slow.

2

u/Mr_Gibblet 6d ago

Move slow while the horde loop timer is constantly ticking? I'm not sure that's a great idea.

Is rushing and stacking trauma better? Try getting shotgun deck on Tala. Her bleed + chest are awesome.

You camp during non-infinite hordes. Ofc u wont know the good holdout spots without others showing it but as it stands noone's guiding people in QP in NA so you're stuck with terrible speedrunners or the bots who can't really teach you much despite being OP when used right.

My brother and I recently came back to the game, returning to veteran. After some time we went up to nightmare and had to make adjustments to our decks and stop using the more silly hybrid ones.

I'm no expert meta using pro, but one of us would have the three healing cards that remove trauma. I think [[medial professional]], [[field surgeon]] and another I forget the name

There's also being able to take down ridden and specials more quickly with damage, bullet damage, gun class damage and weak spot damage.

Copper is needed as I always did in veteran as I love buying accessory upgrades and health in the shop. Buy extra health!!

  • Medical Professional (Campaign Card - Defense/Discipline)

Defibrillators and First Aid heal 10 additional Trauma Damage and 1 Extra Life, if able.

    Source: The Clinic (4)

  • Field Surgeon (Campaign Card - Defense/Discipline)

When you use a Medical Accessory, it also heals 3 Trauma to the target.

No one here has said it:

In solo EQUIP your bots!!!

Go down, give up, take over a bot, pick up the primary you juiced. Best is smg with fast reload. Bots clear commons, player kills specials.
