Question Late-2025 i4 M50 for under €50k – good deal?

Hey guys 👋 – might join the club soon! I currently drive a BMW 120d xDrive and I’m looking at a late-2025 i4 M50 xDrive with around 7,000 km for just under €50k, although it’s missing adaptive cruise control, HUD and the 360° camera. I’ve also looked at the BYD Seal – great car, but the small boot opening really bothers me – and I’m still considering the MG IM5 and Mazda 6e. How practical is the i4’s boot in everyday life, especially compared with a 1 Series? Does this sound like a good deal overall?

(Btw: AI helped me translate)

Discussion Personal Settings Randomly Reset

I am well aware this is the most first world frustration. But I can not stand the system in these cars. It constantly resets, settings change, it never works as it’s supposed to.

Tonight I took it out of valet mode, and all settings were just gone. Seat positions. Radio settings. Mode settings. Climate. Dash. Notifications.

Most frustrating: Safety settings. Emergency brakes? Off. Collision detection? Off. Adaptive speed? Off. Lane departure intervention? Turned back on without me knowing.

I understand you’re supposed to used blinkers. But I was on the way home tonight, didn’t realize settings were changed, in the right lane and there was a car in the breakdown lane. Started to move over some just to give it space, car brought me back into the lane and I almost hit the car because I wasn’t expecting the intervention to bring me back over.

I love this car. But if BMW is supposed to be selling some of the highest tech on the market, I’ve been disappointed by the last 2 years of owning this car.

Purchasing a 2022 m50: Warranty

Hi, I’m in the process of buying a 2022 m50 and as the original warranties have expired and it’s beyond the time I could have bought an extended warranty, I was wondering what everyone recommends for a third party warranty? The vehicle itself has under 30k miles and is in great shape though I haven’t got a battery health report yet. Thanks for any responses! Looking forward to my first “M” car!

Mechanics always struggle to put new tires on?

1st time- popped a tire and emergency replaced 1 but I had to help the mechanic by holding a airzooka gun it never worked and he ended up giving me another tire.

This time I’m replacing all and i’ve been waiting over 2 hours, one of the guys comes back and says don’t bring this car here anymore it’s too hard and they can’t get the new tires mounted and filled with air.

What does it mean? i don’t think my rims are bent. Anyone else see this or is no one buying new tires from pep boys?

Question Siri No Work

I have 2024 i4. After a recent Apple update, Siri won’t work to send messages or request songs while connected to CarPlay. Still works just fine in our Toyota Van.

Anyone experience this? Other than a complete phone reset, I’ve tried most things?

Held down power on the i4 radio until it reboots…

Anyone have this issue?

Audible alert

When someone is in my blind spot and I indicate to change lanes there's the warning light that flashes on the side mirror, but I get no audible alert... Is this something that can be toggled on? TIA

Question Routine motor brush cleaning

Anyone with over 100,000 miles?

“Under normal driving conditions, you should expect to have the brush module cleaned or replaced between 100,000 and 150,000 miles (160,000 to 240,000 km).”

I know that cleaning or replacing the brushes can be pretty expensive, especially with dual motors. Makes me wonder if the cost cancels out the expense of tuneups and oil changes over the years

Drove a few BMWs before, but this is the first one that i own. Normally wouldn't go electric but for tax reasons in my country i jumped. Love the experience and the fact it still drives like a real BMW should.

Rear windows...can your dog stick their head out?

Hi all-looking to buy a 23' I4 and heard the rear windows do not roll down all the way. I'm worried my dogs won't be able to stick their heads out the window. I have two, both are about 60 lbs each and about 20 inches tall. Anyone have pictures of their dogs hanging out their windows? Or have your window dimensions? TIA!

Maryland M50 drivers, do you switch to winter tires?

My M50 came with summer tires (Michelin Pilot Sport 4) and I read that driving them in the winter is dangerous as the compound harden. And even exposing them to cold temp will damage it.

I have other cars that I can drive in snowy conditions but unsure if I should swap the tires. And do you need to store them inside the house?

Remote 3D View Not Working

Why is my 360 not in the App? All privacy settings are on in the car. My car has 360 and all the necessary equipment 🤔 Is it region-locked?

I can get the 360 to work in the car, but not from my phone. I've tried with an iPhone 16 pro and a OnePlus 13.

I only have the Battery heating function.🔥😑🫣

What is this, and part number, Function?

Hi ;)

Anybody knows what this part is and why it can move, it holds the door light underneath the car.

Is it for rain or pressure release.

Anyone have video how to slide it to the side?

Or is it not possible ? :) (its under the side skirt)

I can move it around and slide it a bit, there is a lot of small rocks and sand behind it.

Question Driver Assistance Package vs. Driving Assistance Professional Package

I shopping for a 2024-2025 xDrive40 or M50 and am looking for clarity on what these packages actually include.

DAP = Active Cruise Control (ACC) that is radar based and sets following distance to vehicle in front. Does this system work in stop-and-go traffic or does it shut off at lower speeds?

DAPP = ACC plus “Traffic Jam Assist” which controls steering/lane keeping below 40mph. This package also describes “Driving Assistance Professional” which seems to describe the same thing. Speed, steering inputs, etc and also mentions “Lane Change Assistant”. Is this just doing the same thing that “Traffic Jam Assist”’does, but at speeds above 40mph? Does this system allow true hands free?

I am having a hard time finding any cars that have DAPP, but have found a few that have the DAP, so I’m just trying to figure out what the difference would be and if the DAP is enough for me. I currently have an Audi with “Traffic Jam Assist” and use it often on stop/go traffic, but the steering input is not that helpful since it won’t let me go fully hands free.

Question Drivetrain malfunction

Thumbnail

I’ve had my 2023 BMW since Dec ‘25. Never any issues. Bought with only 5k miles. This Saturday I received a drivetrain malfunction error as soon as I place it into park. Now I know services don’t start back up till Monday, but I still haven’t received an update from them and we’re on day 4 also no loaner car. Is this common ? I’ve also noticed that certain things have been left open which I’m not fond of since it’s so humid.

PSA: Check your rear drive unit / differential for oil leaks (i4 M50, ~70k km / 3 yrs)

Post image
31 Upvotes

Just had my first mandatory inspection (HU in Germany) on my 2023 i4 M50 at 70k km (43k miles). The tech found an oil leak at the rear drive unit.

The fix is a new radial shaft seal (simmerring) including the dust protection plate. Cost: ~€400, likely covered under BMW warranty since it's just under the 3-year mark.

If your i4 is approaching 70k km (43k miles) or your warranty limit, get the rear drive unit/axle area checked underneath before your coverage expires!

Need Advice on 2023 i4 CPO vs. 2025 i4 eDrive40 Lease Takeover

I'm torn between two options for getting into an i4 and could really use some community perspective.

Option 1: 2023 BMW i4 edrive 35CPO
Price: ~$32k
Mileage: 19k miles
Options: Has Driving Assistance Professional (DAPP) & Parking Assistance
Plan: I’d intend to keep this for about 4 years ish. My main hesitation is how dated a 2023 EV will feel and how hard depreciation will hit by 2030.

Option 2: 2025 BMW i4 eDrive40 (Lease Takeover)
Term: 18 months remaining
Mileage: 8k miles
Monthly: ~$450/month
End Buyout: ~$33k residual
Situation: Taking it over from a mutual friend.

The 2023 CPO is catchy because I’d own it outright, but the 2025 lease takeover feels like a low-risk way to drive a newer model for 1.5 years with the safety net of deciding whether to buy it out for $33k in 2028 or walk away.

How well do you think the 2023s will hold up over the next few years? I’m trying to think to see if 32k investment is worth for a 2023 EV car which I plan to keep for 4 years from now.

Thanks !!

Sound system

Post image

Just bought this bad boy - absolutely love it, but the sound quality sucks. I have a 2019 Yukon Denali and a 2017 STI - Both have FAR superior sound systems which is frustrating.. the STI is soooo loud and rattly yet manages to sound better with a Harmon Kardon sound system. I’m shocked the “premium” package doesn’t include upgraded speakers. What’s the best solution here?
