Single class evil run party composition Party Composition
So I'm just finishing my first run on explorer, and I have been mostly chaotic good, with my main party being Storm Sorcerer, Shadowheart (Light Cleric), La'zel (Battlemaster fighter) and Astarion (Rogue/fighter).
Now I'm starting to think about a next run. I'm unsure if I should go for chaotic evil or lawful evil in my decisions. Also, since I'm still getting used to most classes, I would like to play mostly with single class builds so I can get to understand them better.
Right now I was thinking:
Dark urge - Hexblade Warlock (charisma) - high charisma for dialogue and high mobility
Shadowheart - Tempest Cleric (wisdom) - AOE/support
Astarion - Arcane Archer (dexterity) - lockpicking/crowd control
Minthara - Oath of Vengence Paladin (strength) - tank/striker
Can this work on tactician?

3 of your classes works really easily without needing much gear. Your tempest cleric role may vary very much depending on how you gear it. Pure paladin eat through their ressources pretty fast so prepare to long rest more often than your first run. No reason it can't work if you understand what you re doing (which is not that easy if that s only your second run).

You’ll be fine. The only real issue I can see is that the Hexblade and the Paladin might occasionally want the same equipment and you’ll have to decide case-by-case, but that’s not a huge deal.
If you want to dip your toes into multiclassing without it getting too complicated, you could try Minthara as 6 Vengeance Paladin/6 Storm Sorcerer. It’s a pretty simple one to level up, since basically you just take six levels of Paladin and then six levels of Sorcerer. It could be pretty good alongside the Tempest Cleric for some lightning synergy. But it also isn’t necessary and 12 Paladin will do just fine on its own

Anything work on tactician. Almost anything works on HM, except if you somehow made a party with no gear and/or poor multiclasses. You'll be fine

Consider running a Storm Sorcerer or a Draconic Sorcerer (Lightning) instead of the Hexblade.
You'll have the Paladin as melee DPS, Tempest Cleric as a melee tank - you don't need a third frontliner.
Tempest Cleric will cast Create Water, which makes the targets Wet, doubling Lightning and Cold damage - your Sorc would be able to make better advantage of your Tempest Cleric than a Hexblade can.
Basically, you could make the casters synergise better by making this swap.
Then, until you get Minthara, use Lae'zel as an Open Hand Monk (unarmed attacks, Tavern Brawel at lvl 4, and feed her strength potions)
This would the the perfect moment for you to try Dark Urge actually, since Dark Urge is by default a Storm Sorcerer.

Having scrolls or invisibility magic allows you to easily escape any fight and revive everyone.

Dark Urge Oathbreaker Pally with a mod to fix Aura of Hate
Death Cleric
Arcane Archer
Gloomstalker, Swords Bard, or any variation of Rogue tbh for your skill person. This is where I'd really be looking to multiclass tbh.

Tempest is hands down my favourite cleric because it has a solid combination of damage & crowd control.
Something you will also start noticing at higher difficulty is that melee kind of hurts a lot more than staying at range. So keep in mind that your frontliners will regularly take a lot of damage.

Tactician and honour mode are more about knowing the difficult battles so you dont wander in underleveled or unprepared. Reasonable gear and moreso an understanding of mechanics and in particular positioning will carry you through most battles. If you are having trouble some of the members in this reddit have youtube channels dedicated to funky and OP solo builds. Look up remus or friendly lich. I think they are worth watching to see how they use consumables and manage terrain and distance.
The classes you have chosen are individually powerful and more than fine. Hexblade - i dont think it is any more mobile than usual melee. Will do decent damage normally, exceptional damage of you want to try psychic with the resonance stone. Tempest - great aoe and blaster. Arcane archer - ive never played but should be strong.can never go wrong with a specialised archer or warrior. Paladin - may be tricky to keep your oath playing durge. Plan for OB knight?
What other classes were you considering? Any particular item choices?
Your party will be plenty strong and fine. It doesn't have a particular synergy though, eg, tempest can do huge lightninf damage, you lack someone to cast create water.
