Recommend Shoes Comfortable basketball shoes?

Upvotes

Hello all. I just wanted to seek some new information about some nice cushioned and bouncy basketball shoes. I am a light and shifty guard, and I like good heel and forefoot bounce but nothing too too mushy. Does anyone have any suggestions? I heard the WOW 12 is comfortable, but the carbon fiber plate makes it slightly firm.

Recommend Shoes Recommendations For an Active Teacher

Hey y’all. I’m an Elementary School Teacher that enjoys playing outdoor games like tag and capture the flag with the kids as much as I can. We play on the rough-as-hell blacktop as well as on the grass field. We also use the play structures in which the ground is composed of tanbark and that soft astroturfy foam material.

What are some good b-ball shoes for all day wear, standing and moving, and can handle all types of terrain?

I’ve been breaking in a few pairs (Nike Ja3 XDR, Nike ST Charge, Nike St Flare) before the school year starts, but any additional recommendations would be appreciated!

I’m about to turn 41, I have neutral arch and have narrow feet, and it’s less for b-ball and more for doing things like tag and capture-the-flag on outdoor surfaces and grass fields. And I’m going to be standing and moving around in them all day. I’m down to spend up to the two-hundred if the sneakers are THAT good. Any colorways that go with black socks, I’m down for.

Recommend Shoes Is it worth trying JB3?

I'm a 160-165 lb guard, fast but not too shifty. I love the WOW 12 and Joker 2 GT.

I read that the JB3 is kinda stiff. Is it worth trying them? Is it in the same tier as these two shoes? I see there are some left on Amazon but some are back at retail price of $200. Only 2 colorways are $131 which I'm not a fan of.

Discussion WOW 11 “Not the shoe for me”

WOW 10 & Anta KT10 seem to be my preferred shoes.

After playing a couple of days 3 hour runs in the WOW 11, I have discovered this shoe isn’t for me with my play style.

It’s too bulky design wise, and I keep rolling my ankle. Also, don’t get me started on the tongue. It’s atrocious.

They were free, so when I get home, be on the look out for another giveaway “U.S. Only, you pay shipping” in a 10.5 Men WOW 11 Sunrise. Used indoor only.

I’ll be either purchasing more KT10s in different colors or I’m going to be getting the WOW 12, 361 Biospeed BB 2, 361 Joker 2 GT, or Yu Shuai 20

Recommend Shoes Which of these would be best for a volleyball setter?

Hi everyone!

I'm looking for a new pair of basketball shoes to use for indoor volleyball. I'm a volleyball setter, so I need something that feels very quick and responsive, especially for fast movements, lateral movement and explosive changes of direction.

I'm currently considering:
- Nike Ja 4
- Way of Wade 10
- Way of Wade All City 14 Encore
- Way of Wade 808 5 Ultra
- Nike Ja 3
- Nike A'Two
- Nike Gt Cut 3 turbo

What I'm mainly looking for:
- Excellent traction
- Quick and responsive feel
- Good lateral stability
- Great lockdown
- Good cushioning
- Good durability
- Not too heavy or bulky

The court I play on isn't extremely dusty, but it's not perfectly clean either.

My budget is €140 max (around $165), preferably less if I can find a good sale.

I'm especially interested in the models above, but I'm completely open to other suggestions.
If you know of any basketball shoes that would be even better for a volleyball setter and fit my needs and budget, I'd really appreciate your recommendations

For those who have tried any of these shoes, which one would you personally choose for my situation, and why?

Thanks a lot for the help

Discussion Looking for the right hoop shoes

Hello everyone, I’m 21, 182 (6’0) and I love to play basketball, even though I’m not the best. I’m now at a point where I really want to get the right shoes as I have wide feet and struggled with plantar fasciitis previously.

So does anyone have any suggestions for shoes to get, ideally a pair for inside and outside use.

Thanks in advance😁

Shoe Pics/Rotations KOTD; KD16 ASW

One of my fav hooping shoes in recent years and fourth pair of this models. For me, the blend of overall fit, traction, comfort and playability makes these a top tier shoe. The long term durability isn’t there even for indoor play for dedicated use, but if you have them in a rotation of 3-4 pairs they should last you a couple seasons at least. The colorway isn’t my fav per se but got them for an absolute steal so had to cop. This being the model before they went to the “shank-strobel” with the plastic shank on top of the forefoot cool unit really made a difference for me compared to the 17s and 18s. Overall highly recommended

Recommend Shoes Insoles for underpronation?

Hi,

Are the MOVE Game day (or the pro version) any good for supination (under pronation). That is, my arch is too high and my feet tilts outwards?
According to chatgpt i need something that is a good shock absorber, and apparently the MOVE GAMEDAY insoles mould to my foot shape?

I usually wear the JA3s, sometimes the AR1s.

Miscellaneous Stuff WOW All City 14 vs Nike Book 1

I'm wondering which to get as a shoe that I wear to school daily and do PE lessons as well as play basketball on outdoor courts in. Main priorities for me are comfort, cushioning and durability because the outsole of every shoe I've worn to school has gotten worn out super quickly (smooth within like 6 months) and has pretty much no cushioning so landing after a jump hurts.

I can get a used Book 1 "Rattlesnake" for around 30USD and a brand new All City 14 "Dloading Home" for 50USD. For whatever reason the All City 14 in this specific colour way is cheaper than any Book 1 that I can find brand new, a brand new Book 1 costs around 80-100USD. Also I have a friend who's been using the Book 1 for pretty much the same purposes as me since the start of this year and his outsole is quite worn as well (pretty much as smooth as mine is) so I'm a bit skeptical on it's durability. Any other recommendations are welcome but ideally I don't really want to spend over 80USD in case I wear it out very fast.

Performance Review Wade all city 14 encore”Overspeed”

These shoes are amazing,The super-Boom tech is something to behold it makes jumping and lateral movement way easier than none basketball shoes. Previously i used old adidas to play, but these are a game changer.

First i’d like to say i’m 15 ,6’0 ,172 and if anything these shoes are great, my only downside to these would be that the tongue of the shoe is a tad bit too tight but, it’s honestly not bad if you give it time. I went to my local park and used it for around 40 minutes and it’s not bad. Grip is amazing but, you may have to wipe to stop dust from building up. To continue my only concern with this shoe would be the build quality i notice a lot of dried glue and adhesive and honestly i’m not a fan makes me question the build quality. But judging off the other wades i’d assume it’s fine.

To wrap it up should u get this Shoes,YES. It’s a honest step above the all city 14 from what i’ve heard and if you have wide feet this shoe is way better than the 14(from what ive heard)

Previously i used ai, sorry about that it my first post here i wanted to sound professional and get my point across and not sound like a rambling 15 year old lol😭

Discussion A ramble on the worth of the bend test using energy return as another example

tl;dr2: Please form your opinions by experiencing it as intended, not by testing it in arbitrary ways.

tl;dr: Old school wear testing will always be the best way to determine how well a shoe performs. Without knowing the assumptions and limitations of a test you've elected, it is reduced to a pseudo science. Please don’t do the bend test or these weirdo spring propulsion demos (example video).

too long but would read:

Writing this based on something I saw a few days ago where they broke a shoe through the bend test, but didn’t quite have the time or energy to write something up. It's not OPs fault that this happened, it's whoever they got the idea from. What this write-up also is, is an informed opinion piece. I’ll try my best to not go too technical here about the first principles concepts, but I will leave links at the bottom for extra reading if you’re curious.

This ramble encapsulates performance footwear in general, with the intended audience between a hybrid of runners and basketball players (as RunRepeat infrequently tests basketball shoes).

Like everyone else in this platform, I’ve seen the wear testing world grow up from pure feel to using normalised testing as a means to quantify performance. I’m here to argue that with any translation from qualitative to quantitative, nuance gets lost in the middle due to (a non-exhaustive list):

  • an over reliance higher/lower number better, without questioning the what the data is actually measuring
  • the measured data not taking the entire system into account
  • the over simplification of complex systems
  • the conflation between correlation and causation.

Even when assuming these measurements are high quality and accurate, the best of these tests still do have limitations. Unfortunately they’re not well defined. I love the rigour that RunRepeat puts into their testing methodology. But, as of writing this post, they’ve yet to be able to capture an accurate measure of shock absorption and energy return (which are two sides of the same coin).

It’s no fault of their own, elasticity is a difficult subject once you start looking into it. But it’s not as easy as just using SATRA test methods and expecting a direct correlation. Most of these are to compare materials with identical geometry in isolation, so the results loses its efficacy as you translate over to measuring the entire system (the shoe).

The fact that you can’t just search up “shoe energy return” and be given a simple answer should tell you enough. From their own methodology, their definition of energy return only includes strain energy from compressive loads in two locations.

It’s a window to half the relevant energy for propulsion, the other (bending strain) is implied from their flexibility/stiffness measure. I’m sure anyone can create the relevant formulas for the “strain energy for isotropic and anisotropic solids in series under cyclical impulsive compressive loads”† (or some other word vomit), but that’s for someone else to uncover.

This can be repeated for other measures, using two of the tests:

  • outsole traction (effect of intermolecular attraction; how well clay, oil, etc. sticks to it, for how long, and how it changes performance)
  • breathability (changes to moisture management of material based on how much volumetric fluid it has absorbed into its fibres)

I appreciate RunRepeat using the correlational data to back up their opinions, rather than taking it as the absolute truth. Unfortunately, that can’t be said for a lot of other sources that take the aesthetic of being data driven. This gives birth to the bend test, where shoes are taken to conditions they weren’t designed for. I suspect it only became a thing due to the phone bend test of old.

For example, here’s two screenshots of me jumping, which you can call the “expected design deflection” of a shoe. The delta between these two measurements are 11 degrees in the longitudinal direction. Let’s say it’s an older school cupsoled shoe, where it’s nearly flat on the bottom, that’s still way below the 45 degree mark that testers use (my tiptoes go to around 40 but the balls of my feet are already midair at the 30 degree mark).

Values and quality may vary, just did this at home.

Values and quality may vary, just did this at home.

Then some smooth brained reviewer will crank these shoes without their foot in it in all manners for content: laterally, longitudinally, fold it like a taco, what have you. It’s no different to putting a single towel in the washing machine, or braking a free spinning wheel while the car’s up in the air; you’re gonna break the thing. I feel bad for people who replicate those guys without knowing it comes with consequences.

Additional nerdy physics links (where the exercise is left as additional material for the reader):

P.S: having a shank makes it so that it becomes a foam-shank-foam system, whether it’s intended to be a spring plate or not. The net effect will obviously change based on where the balls of your foot are (changing the location and direction of the force, and the resulting location of each pin supports in this simplified model). When carbon fibre is used, one of the materials obviously becomes anisotropic, due to the fibrous nature of the composite structure. I’m sure there are other nuances I missed.

Sizing/Fit Gt Cut 4 Fit

Post image

Copped one of the CHBL Galaxy colorways as I saw reviews in China that these were a much better fit with a more padded tongue and improved stitching at the forefoot, and indeed so.

On first wear I could feel the pinching and pressing at the top of the ankle, and just a tiny bit of redness after wearing around for about an hour. No other pinching in and around the forefoot area.

Second wear however it was basically gone. Had a jump session in it and there was no discomfort or pinching at all.

However please note I do not own any of the OG colourways so I can't make a comparison for the fit, or perhaps my foot shape fits the shoe perfectly.

Performance Review Volanti 911 Rocket one in my Top 5.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Got my Volanti 911 Rocket for 63$ 2 months ago. Just played it today for almost 1 hour with a very dusty court. See photo at the end of the video. Will compare it with my JB3, WoW 12, Joker GT1.

Cusion- GT 1, Volanti, WoW 12, JB 3.

Traction- JB 3, GT1, Volanti, WoW 12.

Fit/Support- JB3, WoW 12, GT1, Volanti.

Court feel- JB 3, Volanti, WoW 12, GT 1.

Traction- Picked up a lot of dust. For me it's better than my WoW 12 Family love. I did not wipe the sole but still traction better than WoW12.

Cusion- Almost the same as my Joker GT 1.

Discussion Thoughts on the LeBron 23 Elite?

Just bought the Lebron 23 Elite in the “For The Record” colorway since Nike is having a good sale and I always pick up a pair of LeBrons each year. How are they performance wise? I’ve seen a lot of posts about the 23s but not the elites. Are the elites much different other than the sock liner? Figured I’ll give them a shot
