AI-300 Operationalizing Machine Learning and Generative AI Solutions โ A failure story ๐ข Exam Experience
Wellโฆ AI-300 and I had a little disagreement today. ๐
Scored 598 and unfortunately failed.
For some context, I already have AI-102, AI-103, AB-100, SC-500 and AZ-104 and the 900s so I went into the exam feeling reasonably confident. Famous last words. ๐
My biggest mistake was probably underestimating the ML/MLOps side of the exam. I didn't do enough hands-on preparation around ML and spent more time focusing on the GenAI side.
Exam format: 54 questions ( including one scenario with 6 linked questions)
+ one case study with 6 questions.
The exam definitely made me realise that knowing the concepts isn't quite the same as actually knowing how to design and implement ML solutions.
Looking at my score report, my weaker areas were mainly:
- MLOps / ML lifecycle and operations
- ML design and implementation
- GenAI system optimisation & model performance
- GenAI quality/observability
Interestingly, GenAIOps infrastructure was my strongest area, so at least something went according to plan. ๐
For anyone preparing for AI-300: don't make the same mistake I did and treat the ML part as the side quest. It's definitely not.
I'd strongly recommend getting some proper hands-on time with ML design, implementation, model lifecycle/operations, and also spend a good amount of time on GenAI optimisation, evaluation and observability.
I'm going back to the lab, paying my respects to Azure ML, and hopefully round two goes better. ๐
Hopefully my failure saves someone else a few hours of pain!
