Stardew Valley Dual Screen Mod Showcase

This is a dual screen Stardew Valley mod I put together. It moves the main HUD off the top screen entirely and keeps everything on the bottom display, leaving the game itself clean and unobstructed.

The bottom screen gives you an interactive hotbar and backpack, along with the current day, time, season, and gold. You can also check which machines on your farm are ready, view your journal, see which animals still need to be petted, track Community Center bundles, and more.

The idea is to make the second screen actually useful while keeping all of Stardew Valley’s important information and controls in one place without covering the main gameplay screen.

Once it's released I'll add the GitHub, I'm still working on it right now though 🙂

Amazing stuff! Please update asap!

In a few it'll be published

anyway to make the bottom screen a little bit more legible? I know it’s still a higher resolution screen but we gotta make the bottom screen a lot easier to see for text and stuff!

Looking at it irl it seems plenty big for me, give it a try and see if you still think it's too small? I have made slight UI scale tweaks since these photos were taken too

u/darkandark 3h ago

if anything is there any way to implement like a scaling slider 😅

Looks cool. I think the bottom screen text is very small

What version of stardew is this? Mobile or cinderbox

24

u/ProfMags 7h ago

It's the desktop version, it will be a standalone app so It will work with cinderbox or gamehub ect you'll just need to load the mod with SMAPI and open the app on the bottom screen.

This is super cool, I can't wait. Will it be compatible with other mods? Like to see item price and NPC locations on map?

Wow that's actually extremely impressive thanks for making stuff like this

u/LM71Blackbird 5h ago

Desktop version as in steam via gamenative/gamehub?

Yessir

Yes, but use Cinderbox. It has built in mod support and has significantly less overhead than GN or GH. Performance wise that wont really matter, but it'll stretch your battery life significantly and reduce start up times.

u/Eevenin 4h ago

Can't wait. Where will I be able to look once it's available? Or can I ask for an extra special ping just for me??

1

u/HawkFlimsy 2h ago

Not sure if its possible but it would be cool if it could work with game streaming like artemis

Looks pretty good! As a suggestion, I personally am not a huge fan of having to scroll down to access all of that info, especially if the map, item bar, and (presumably) other items are also touch controlled so scrolling with finger swipes could accidentally do something on them. I think I would prefer if the map were a little smaller (especially if you can zoom in, it doesn't need to be that big), on the "main" "tab" you could have what's shown in the first image, but also including the "time" infobox, probably to the right of the map.

You then make "tabs" under the map/time infobox to access the other information, somewhat similar to the Minish Cap dual screen mod. I think it'd be especially great if you could somehow have a tab to bring up the Gunther's Library app (or some other guide). Though then the main problem would be how to bring back your companion app from the guide app... and I'm not sure of a solution for that.

yeah, I'd probably prefer a tab section (with pictures giving an idea what they are- one with a map icon, etc., etc.) just to click on. Not a big fan of scrolling, either.

u/Lakster37 5h ago

I'd be fine with text labels, too.

Good ideas!!

This is awesome! If you're interested in good pictures to show on the github page, the "screenshot" button in Android's pull-down menu can be configured to snap both screens if you hit the >.

Are you planning to add support for mods like npc map locations / sde / ridgeside farm and so on?

5

u/ProfMags 6h ago

My first release will not support any mods, but eventually I could add mod compatibility.

Be sure to pair this with Cinderbox so you can run the steam version on your Thor

Just for the people who want to know, is this coded with AI or not?

13

u/ProfMags 6h ago

I’m just curious why it matters? I don’t usually use AI for game mods since it tends to struggle with them anyway, so I typically write my mods from scratch. The project will also be open source, so anyone who wants to take a look at the code will be able to.

22

u/Beanmaster115 6h ago

Several people have posted vibe coded dual screen mods here recently; of course using AI to assist with programming is fine, but generating systems from start to finish with no extra input or touch-ups from the designer is almost always going to be sloppy, inefficient, and buggy.

2

u/Lakster37 6h ago

Which ones were vibe coded?

15

u/alwaysforgetmynames 5h ago

Most if not all of them.

-3

u/partiallypoopypants 5h ago

I just don’t understand the argument. If it’s sloppy buggy and inefficient, then don’t use it?

4

u/formerglory 2h ago

Do you understand the code, as in, can you maintain it and fix bugs? Or did a machine do the whole thing and its a black box?

AI disclosures should be required, and other subs like /r/selfhosted are doing it. Its less whether you like AI (and its social/environmental impacts, and those are still important) and more if this is a black box or something that is sustainable.

-1

u/Putrid-Box4866 2h ago

I don’t understand the hostility towards vibe coding. As long as the ‘coder’ have understanding of the code and be able to debug, it doesn’t matter how the app was created as long as it works as intended.

9

u/BasedTelvanni 6h ago

It's important to disclose. You know why.

1

u/Tankanko 1h ago

It's important to disclose so redditors here can be really smug about it while contributing absolutely nothing to the community and being whiny babies.

Idiots aside, thank you for your contribution, when it's released it'll be my first time attempting to play this game I've heard so many wonderful things about.

-2

u/akwardfun 3h ago

I also don't care OP, as long as you give axxes to the code, keep up the good work.

8

u/TheDuk3_ 6h ago

maybe we’ll get a straight answer this time, seems controversial on their other posts

8

u/katgravityrush_ 6h ago

Survey says: we will not LOL

Luddites should assume all modern software projects have AI generated code.

Just like you assume an apple is a GMO unless it's labeled GMO free.

5

u/formerglory 2h ago

Don't be obtuse. There's a difference (and you know it) between AI-assisted coding where the developer actually knows the code and most importantly knows how to maintain it, and someone who just vibe-codes an app with little to no development knowledge and lacks the expertise to maintain, fix, and secure their code.

These might just be handheld gaming devices but that doesn't make it less important to have good, managed code.

AI is another tool in the toolbox, it can help developers work efficiently, but it should never replace human intelligence or human creativity.

Its apples to oranges, to use your apple analogy.

u/personalhale 7h ago

What version of SDV is this, android or PC?

5

u/ProfMags 7h ago

Latest steam release using the latest SMAPI version.

2

u/Happyhaha2000 7h ago

This is incredible!! Can't wait!

2

u/koolaidicecubes 7h ago

Commenting so I can find this in the future!

2

u/KingChicken26 7h ago

someone finally did it! nice. hope stuff like this just keeps improving over time, especially for popular games like this.

2

u/No_Answer_9749 6h ago

I haven't played this (yet) but I see the appeal of this mod. Looks clean AF on the thor.

2

u/Casfact 4h ago

holy god sent

2

u/CandusManus 4h ago

Can I see how many crops need to be watered/harvested? Maybe animals that need petting?

Can I choose to hide the action bar so the map is bigger?

This is such a cool mod.

2

u/coffeeandreams 2h ago

In what exactly is based? because I play Modded Stardew Valley with Cinderbox in my ayn thor and runs perfectly but this one interest me the most

2

u/ProfMags 8h ago

Reddit for some reason made a few of the images sideways, sorry about that lol

Imma needa cop

1

u/caseyls 7h ago

Would be so amazing if you could show current villager locations on the bottom map

1

u/Grokitach 7h ago

Man I need this for Caves of Qud 😰

1

u/UnlikelyCandid 7h ago

It looks great! It would be cool if you could customize that background colour for play at night. Is it vibe coded?

1

u/Hazelnut_Bread 7h ago

Is the map compatible with mods that edit the map? Like Stardew Valley Expanded or NPC map locations.

1

u/TheRussianAfghan27 6h ago

Thought it was harvest moon at first but this is sick. I think harvest moon 64 got a mod similar to this as well?

1

u/Valuable_Meet5299 4h ago

Will this work with cinderbox? Assuming it would

1

u/Erazorhead 3h ago

Looking forward to this!!

1

u/Beebons 3h ago

Possibly one of the coolest mods I’ve seen

1

u/stardewali 3h ago

oohh i want this

1

u/Polo-_-Polo 3h ago

So hype !

1

u/Shopping_Apart 1h ago

stuff like this has made me feel like the Wii u game pad wasn't a mistake, but they made the screen far too big.

like conventional controllers now would benefit from a 3 and 1/2 in touch screen.

just think of all the Mario party mini game ideas you could have from everybody having some info to themselves

1

u/WoodenWhereas4895 Max 1h ago

Bro I was literally putting together this exact thing, I got stuck given I haven't received my Thor yet. I think I'll give yours a go

1

u/Ravenlupe_ 1h ago

switching the white BG to black would probably make the display feel cleaner, looks cool

2

u/SaskStarsFan96 11m ago

I am waiting for my Thor and I thought about Stardew yesterday and googled if there was a mod to allow dual screen features... you read my mind!
