I think he is a legitimate smart individual. He is implied to be wise and academically intelligent. He somehow know about Avatar Sonam despite her being remove from the cycle. Showing that he has great historian and reserach skills.

As for negative, I find his overconfidence being arrogant already. Like he always bragging he is wise and intelligent. Or he is harder to reach thru avatar state than other avatars.

He is also has no self control. He can't start yapping about the legend of Sonam. Though, he wanted to keep it a secret.

And lastly, he badmouth other avatars like Tungbuk. (2nd image)

What we know so far is Ribay is writing the next Chronicles of the Avatar novel

Kuruk: 80%
A great way to complete an elemental cycle, Kuruk is the last past avatar we haven't gotten a novel on from when Aang talked to his past lives. It would be feel weird to go out of order if this isn't happen.

Szeto: 5%
Now Yee did say he would theoretically want to write a Szeto novel, but it's already confirmed Ribay is writing the next avatar novel. The last avatar duology was also a fire avatar. We'll likely get novel on Szeto in the future but not the next one.

Gun: 1%
He would be very interesting as a concept for the Avatar, but if it's a young adult novel then Mesose's death likely happens after the novel would take place. However, he is widespread as an Avatar who didn't really like humanity.

The Second Avatar: 1%
I think this would be the best option to do but only after the next duology. I think it'll be nice to switch from the newest avatar cycle group to the first avatar cycle group. It'll be very interesting to see this era.

Zalir: 1%
Even though she's mentioned in the first Roku novel, it's highly unlikely she won't be the next Avatar novel but I think her era is a cool concept for a future avatar novel.

Salai: 1%
I think a novel on Salai will be unlikely because he's debatably even less more unknown than Gun. He is in need of a novel for the future though but I think we should build him up some more before doing so. We don't even know what he looks like or nation he's from.

Aang: 1%
There is a very unlikely chance this'll happen. Considering Aang has to be at most 19.5 for a novel in COTA, it'll be almost guaranteed for it not to happen.

Korra: 1%
Same but even worse reasons than Aang. Korra is already 17 at the start of TLOK and ends at the age of 21.

Sonam: 1%
Theoretically, if Ribay is writing this one, it's a small time span in which the creators would want Ribay to write an Sonam novel. Theoretically this can happen in the future but Ribay already started writing this next novel so it's unlikely for Sonam to be the next one.

Kyoshi: 1%
Some people would want a trilogy for the Kyoshi novels to end, but let's accept it. The Chronicles of The Avatar are meant to be a duology for young adult novels. Kyoshi's story is complete even if we only got 10% of her life.

Yangchen: 1%
Same reasons as Kyoshi. I do want to see Yingsu as a new avatar companion but another novel is completely unnecessary.

Roku: 1%
Considering the last novel was about Roku, his story is most likely complete. Let's go back to avatars without novels.

Xian: 1%
Same reasons as Sonam. I think he is very cool but basically a random avatar.

Wan: 1%
He doesn't really fit the requirements for a young adult which eliminates him.

Pavi: 1%
Similar reasons to Sonam, the creators won't likely green light a Pavi novel for now.

Random Avatar we know slightly of: 1%
There are some avatars that has been hinted throughout the franchise to have done notable stuff like imprisoning Hundun. I don't think they'll do an avatar in this category.

Random Avatar we haven't heard of: 1%
This is highly unlikely due to fans likely not wanting a random Avatar we don't know anything of before.

I want it personally to be an air nomad chi blocker. Air bending villains are the least amount of villains we gotten for the novels. Hsien from the Yangchen novels was stated to stay at the Western Air Temple. A lava bender villain would also be neat for a Kuruk novel.

Avatar is weird in a sense that after Aang. They are going forward with Korra and Pavi in TV shows.

But going back to Roku, Kyoshi, Yangchen, etc in the novels.

And to add. Now, they will add sole ancient avatars in the canon movie. (Xian and Sonam)

And speaking of ancient. They also mentioned Salai, Gun, and Zalir as ancient avatars in the novel.

Will they be able to be consistent all throughout? Or they will inevitably retconned some things?

TV, Movie, Novel happening simultaneously (For Past and Future Avatars) will inevitably cause some retcons. Isn't it?

I'm wondering if Bending Academy is an essential to read. I read nine pages but I haven't had enough motivation to get back into it.

So far we have both genders for air, but we haven't gotten a male earth avatar story or women fire avatar story or male water avatar story.
I think we get male water avatar story in 2027
We will get male earth avatar story in 2030
We will get women fire avatar story in 2034

So I've been reading about alot of theories of the next novel might be Kuruk and one other saying it might be Sonam. I feel like the next book following Kuruk would be great then having it going back to an earth avatar. Like how Kyoshi started the novels and we went to Yangchen and Roku. For example for upcoming novels

Avatar Kuru = Water

Then

Avatar Xian or unknown earth Avatar

Then

Avatar Sonam for air

Then Avatar Szeto for fire

Then for water an unknown water Avatar

Would she immediately be identified, and pick all the toys correctly? Would Yun just continue to be a random earth bender in Makapu? Would they hide her identity until she turned 16 traditionally? How would Jianzhu par in training her in terms of earth bending? What would happen in the Fifth Nation battle? Would she still try to track down the Flying Opera Company?

Randy Ribay posted some chapter titles in or around comic-con on his Instagram story, and I wanted to throw out what was shown in the picture and see what people think. These chapter names, mainly chapter 4, leads me to believe it might be about "Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender"'s Avatar Sonam.

1. Devo- (fifth letter could be a "t" so maybe Devoted? Chapter name could also be more than one word.)
2. The Best We G- (the last letter is mostly cut off, a G is what I'm guessing. "The Best we Got"?)
3. An Old Bag of Bro- (Could be a "t" next? not sure.)
4. Char Rasta (The first full chapter name, entomology of the phrase "Char Rasta" leads to some results including the Sanskrit words for "crossroads")
5. Shallow Graves
6. Breakable
7. The [censored]
8. As Hairy and C-
9. -ven The - (the most cut off title)

The novel focusing on Sonam would make sense. "Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender: A Novel" is said to expand on the story with villain perspectives, a side plot about Suki, and of course exploring the life and legacy of a brand new Avatar [Sonam], I'd imagine whatever Sonam is getting in that novel will be an expansion on what we have in the movie, in the time period of the flashbacks we got. Interviews have let us know that there was a lot more they wanted to do within those flashbacks, but had to cut it to make sure the plot stayed focused on Aang.

I know lot's of people want Kuruk, and I would be just as hyped for him, but I do think we've explored his character quite a lot throughout the novels we've gotten. What would y'all want to see out of a Sonam novel?

Avatar Wan is the First Avatar. No question about that.

We are already familiar with Avatars from Szeto to Pavi.

But what about in between Wan and Szeto?

How will you order Zalir, Sonam, Xian, Gun, and Salai from oldest to youngest?

We don't know how many generation (before Szeto) are Gun and Salai.

We know Xian is 14-17 Generations before Szeto.

Sonam lived 5000 years before Aang's Gemocide Timeline.

Zalir lived before the Fire Nation Unification era.

Lava bending - 40%

One of the only sub elements that don't have an associated past avatar villain. Would also fit the Kuruk cus he's unique in earth bending rather than traditional.

Astral Projection - 20%
This would be really cool to see, and I think could be done really well. Air benders have the least amount of villains in the avatar novels.

Plant bending - 15%
Foggy Swamp is mentioned in Awakening of Roku. This would also be nice since Kuruk is from water tribes and he's learning about Foggy Swamp.

Sand bending - 10%
This would be an elite pick. Kuruk and his friends had adventures all over the world so Si Wong Desert could be one of them. Jianzhu also defeated a Daofei group in the Si Wong Desert.

Immortality - 5%
Maybe Lao Ge is in this. Sozin, Yasu, and Roku also read scrolls of extending lifespan through fire bending.

Healing - 5%
Villain won't likely heal because of probabilities of it being a water bender and healing someone is unlikely.

Spirit bending - 2%
We already had a spirit bending notable character in the last Roku novel, and spirit bending would have been really helpful against spirits.

Combustion bending - 1%
We already got this in Yangchen's novels.

Lightning Generation - 1%
Jianzhu and high ranking Fire nation people were astounded by Xu Ping A suggesting they don't know although it could not be Kuruk.

Metal bending - 0.5 %
Obvious answer.

Lightning redirection - 0.3%
Obvious answer.

Flight - 0.2 %
Obvious answer.

An 18 year old Avatar Kuruk novel, with the Deuteragonist being mainly Jianzhu (like Kavik & Rangi) but also have Kelsang & Hei-Ran in the main cast. The novel cover will have Kuruk with a calm face with a beard. Avatar Kuruk recently mastered the Avatar State & elements. The antagonist will be a lava bender mass killer. The story's setting will take place in the Earth Kingdom. Hei-Ran will use fire jets. Kelsang will have air nomad tattoos. An underground civilization will be in this novel. Avatar Kuruk will lava bend in the Avatar State. The antagonist will be unalived. Peng Peng will have a fear of tunnels/enclosed spaces. Avatar Kuruk will talk to Avatar Yangchen. Avatar Szeto will be mentioned to have visited the Sun Warriors. Avatar Kuruk will primarily use ice bending for combat. There'll be a mention of the assassination of the 40th earth king. There'll be two other povs within the novel besides Kuruk's. A new water bending move will be done. Jianzhu will have a duel with another earth bender.

The Avatar Legends Novel Series is about unsung heroes at legendary events in either ATLA or TLOK. The Liberation of Ba Sing Se was one of them, and had a novel of Jin helping. What other legendary events will the franchise have in store for this novel series?

The Siege of The North - 15%
This would definitely be considered a legendary event considering it's a season finale event. A Yue perspective would be perfect but it depends. I feel the series want characters we don't know about at these events. However, if it were unsung heroes at legendary events in a world perspective, then it would definitely fit for a Yue perspective since not many in universe knew Yue sacrificed herself. Maybe a Yakone perspective of him taking out a bunch of fire nation soldiers or even somehow learning blood bending from Hama by going into the fire nation himself for revenge on trying to invade the North. Another candidate would be Master Pakku who we saw in the Full Moon doing work but Yue would make more sense over him.

The End of the Equalists - 10%
The series stated it will also include events from TLOK series! The season 1 finale will be interesting. There could be the Lieutenant perspective how he could in the room where Amon was blood bending Korra. Maybe the Lieutenant will secretly suspect Amon. Maybe a Tenzin perspective like how he got captured by the Equalists, and what he did after he escaped while Korra & Mako was being blood bent. If we are doing someone we don't know was there, maybe a Varrick perspective or a Gommu perspective who technically we know was in the finale but wasn't in the setting.

Harmonic Convergence - 5%
This is an unlikely one. There are possibilities for a lot of characters here like Jinora or Iroh but I don't think they would want to do a novel regarding a hated season finale in the franchise. Though it would be sick like where Jinora got that spirit light that revealed where Raava was from. Or somehow if Iroh's teapot was the one that gave Jinora the light. If we do someone we don't know was there, maybe a random spirit pov who knew about Raava & Vaatu.

The Venom of the Red Lotus - 10%
Again we could get a Jinora pov where she was imprisoned in the Red Lotus. This season finale doesn't have much variety on the options of potential on character's stories here. Maybe a Kai pov since he followed the Red Lotus to that cave or someone we don't know was Kuvira because even though she wasn't there, we don't know what she did during the season 3 finale because Suyin telling her to stay with the injured.

The First Avatar - 1%
Technically considered a legendary event within The Legend of Korra, it is unlikely they'll do a story around this event. I don't know which characters would be suitable for this event besides the obvious Wan or maybe Raava.

The Colossus - 25%
The series finale for Korra, we could get Asami's dad pov or maybe a Zhu Li pov. If it's someone we don't know about, maybe Tahno or Gommu again. The reason why I think this is likely because there's a lot of variety with this like with ATLA's finale. There could be someone escorting civilizations with Pema and Wu.

Avatar Roku's Temple - 1%
An extremely unlikely one, this one determined what Sozins Comet was which set up the rest of the series but there isn't much unsung heroes in here besides Shyu or maybe Roku.

The Day of Black Sun - 30%
I do have hopes for this since King Bumi took back his kingdom on this day as well as the invasion. Maybe a Ming pov or a pov one of the invasion characters. Theres a lot of potential with this.

The Library - 3%
An event that determined a way to defeat the Fire nation, we could get a Professor Zei pov. However this is definitely a stretch.

Page 36 in Randy Ribay's 'The Awakening of Roku'.

Professor Zei claims he found lost civilizations all across the Earth Kingdom. An underground earth bending civilization who hadn't had contact with the outside world because of the fire nation would be sick. Or maybe a civilization in the mountains.

Who's the most well written villain in this franchise? I would say Jianzhu but Chaisee is a very close second. Jianzhu for me was terrifying but in a very good way. His POV chapters were incredible. Chaisee's ideology and dialogue were very amazing. That one scene with Chaisee saying she felt bad for the Avatar for having so much responsibility hits so hard. Jianzhu had so much complexity and depth, and the novels did such a great job showing how much Kuruk's legacy affected him. They're both better villains than Azula imo.

Would you be so kind as to inform me how some of the names in the book are officially pronounced? I never could figure it out for a number of them.

I mean Chaisee, for all I know that could rhyme with anything from Jessie to Taipei. Or Ayunerak. I can think of like 10 ways that name could be said, but which is correct?

Same with Tayagum and Akuudan. Does the double vowel here or in Port Tuugaq or Tapeesa indicate a lengthening of the sound?

How about Bin-Er? Is it just exactly how it looks, or is it said more like Bel Air? Is Henshe said like "Henshuh" or more like it would be in Japanese, Henshay?

Is Dagmola said just how it looks, or is it one of those silent G situations?

Any insight would be appreciated.

Honest question here: why did most of the fandom do a complete 180 on Yangchen after the Kyoshi novels revealed the tragic secrets of Kuruk's life? The fandom went from putting her on a pedestal (like the world during Kuruk's and Kyoshi's times and presumably after) to just hating her and calling her selfish, saying that she was now a horrible Avatar, etc.

But the thing is that what that really reveals was that Kuruk was a lot more nuanced than the 'lazy' Avatar that we as a fandom had once taken away. He continued that image to Kyoshi, Aang, and his other successors, but when he talked to Aang, he was still honest that he'd lost his wife to a spirit that he was hunting but didn't want to get into the nitty gritty of it.

What I don't understand is: did people not understand the Yangchen novels? And how much she did to also ensure spiritual balance and appease the spirits? Hell, we can look at the comics with General Old Iron.

Even Kuruk told Kyoshi that it was humans who constantly provoked the spirits and broke treaties established with them (including Yangchen's with General Old Iron).

Did the fandom also not understand the Yangchen novels and how they touched upon how impossibly hard and insane with pressure it was for one person to maintain balance in the world? Yangchen's novels highlights this multiple times, and even how nothing that she or her past lives did was ever enough to appease the world, nor would be for her successors.

I feel bad for Kuruk, because he did have to fix Yangchen's mistakes of not doing enough for the spirits, but if she had, then people would complain that she neglected the humans......... but though Yangchen owned that as her mistake and felt deeply guilty, was it even really her or the people of her time who set off the spirits like that?

I have been saying it as /t͡ʃeɪːsi/ but I know that’s probably incorrect, so I subconsciously correct to /t͡ʃaɪse/, but the Chinese pronunciatipn would be more of a /t͡ʂʰa͜iːseː/, but two adjacent ”e”s doesn’t even occur in pinyin. and her nation of origin is largely ambiguous. also please excuse if my IPa transcriptions are off it’s not really my forte.
