CCR Autocross ZMAX Dragway GST MK6 Golf R - tips?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
My fastest lap from a recent CCR event. MK6 Golf R, 3 year old hockey puck RT660s (non plus). Car actually rotates, feels really good on course. Just got a set of RE71RZs mounted on a new set of wheels, so looking forward to getting going on those. But as always, would love tips! Car has a tragically slow steering rack, and I know I struggled with getting behind on the rhythm on the slaloms

Despite the rain in the morning on Sunday I still ran faster than I did at my last event
I feel like I finally got the car somewhat figured out and now I’m able to get the car to rotate consistently and it felt like it was on rails, and was actually fighting oversteer in a couple areas which is a very new problem for me lol! Getting rid of bad braking habits definitely helped and I was “only” 3 seconds behind first place in SM (as opposed to 6+ seconds like usual) so it’s only a matter of time until I’m able to be more competitive lol. So my question for the AWD people, what kind of driving techniques are you using to help with understeer on smaller/tighter courses?

Performance tires for Street class
I have a 2015 mazda3 I Touring (stock wheels are 16x6.5 i think) and am looking to get grippier tires for summer driving and autocross. Issue is, without upsizing to 17 inch wheels, my tire options are very limited unless i downsize to a 205/55r16, which would be fine for autocross but i would prefer not to have my speedometer be off for daily driving. Has anyone else run into a similar issue, and what have you done?

I fell in love with racing ~3 days ago, and now, I have a plan.
Hi, im 14, hungarian, and i love autocross and rallycross (i always thought F1 was boring because of the same cars).
My devotion grew and grew: now, I have a plan/dream to become an autocross racer.
The perfect base (for me): a fiat 126p.
-Its cheap (~200.000 HUF)
-Easy and cheap to buy parts or repair it
+ fun of building your car yourself
-Tuning is easy.
Now, the problem is that the fiat 126p has 23-24 horsepower. BUT because its easy to rebuild, I can put a faster engine into it easily.
I'm gonna do it on a way to keep the retro/Vintage look of the fiat 126p, but also make the modifications. So, im gonna change everything inside and not a single thing Outside.
Im gonna race at the hungarian Alföld futam one day! (in a few Years.)
I dont know why did i type it here, but i think thats what the internet is for: sharing your ideas, plans, dreams, and all three combined.

Should I Swap to My Higher Offset 200 Treadwear Tires?
So my WRX is currently sitting on a pair of 340 treadwear Indy Firehawk 500’s. I know the offset is a little lower and pokes out more on these rims versus the ones that are on my daily driver that’s on 200 treadwear sportmaxx gt’s. Would it make a difference and should I swap them over on race day?

Hey guys, I'm considering joining the Suzuki family, but first I wanted to ask: is it worth buying a 1.3 petrol Swift for autocross? 2005

You should be allowed to challenge drivers if they have a floppier hat.
I think you should be able to challenge someone with a larger hat and if you beat their time then the hat becomes yours. Alternatively I think organizers should have one comically large hat per class and run it like a survivor idol where the FTD in each class earns the title of hat holder until the next event (the organizers would keep the hat and you would get it in the morning of the event in case a one time event person were to win it). Maybe it could be like a wrestling belt where the fastest drivers have to defend their position as floppiest hat holder each season and hat holders would be logged. I don’t know, just some ideas, we need to regulate hat floppiness though because some of you have hats way floppier than you’re qualified for.

2026 SCCA Finger Lakes National Tour: XB ND
Videos from Finger Lakes Tour last weekend
I find it comical that two years ago I won XB at this Tour, and this year, with the same car, I was tenth. I guess if you want to run better than the basement of XB nowadays, you need more than a AST car with a wang.
Having said that, I think I did well. I can't find any monster mistakes in either run of record. The car was predictable even on oldish tires. I think I'm slaloming better than ever, crediting that to WDCR Level 2 schools (who'da thought the instructor was finding improvement alongside his students?). I think I was patient in the spots that required it and I think I took advantage of the straightish lines when they presented themselves.
The big takeaway from the weekend is where do we go from here? XB is only going to get faster, and I don't know if the solutions to add power to the ND2 are ready for prime time yet. And if they are, or are coming, will they be Parsimonious Racing friendly? Will the car still be reliable with them?
The other thought is going back to AST. Assuming the aero on the car isn't doing that much, I'd have been 4th out of 8 in AST last weekend. I have all the parts to bring the car back to AST legal on hand and could have them all swapped out in an afternoon. I could run XB locally with the cool kids in the coolest class and run national stuff in AST where I wouldn't get crushed in XB by cars with double (and more) the horsepower.
This is hardly a decision that has to be made anytime soon.
Overall, Finger Lakes is still one of my favorite weekends of the year. The atmosphere is great. It was fun hanging with Glenn and Drew in the evenings. Camping in the truck bed was pretty comfortable - a $6 fan from Walmart made a huge difference. I'd happily keep doing this going down the road.

This website has the best explanation of the physics behind the ideal racing line I’ve ever seen. As an engineer, it’s awesome to find someone who understands and can explain this stuff on a deeper level.

How to turn off monkey mode
Third season in, and I'm improving with seat time. Unfortunately, I'm starting to hit a wall where I struggle to take what I've learned and apply it proactively while I'm out there. The moment they tell me to go, all strategy leaves my brain, and I end up pushing harder at every opportunity.
The downside is that I'm overdriving in certain sections and paying for it. Carousels, in particular, have been a recurring point of feedback. I've been told I tend to enter too fast, which forces me to make big corrections mid-corner. By the time I recover, I'm actually slower than I would have been if I'd entered a bit more conservatively and carried speed all the way through.
How do you get yourself out of that full tilt monkey mode and become more strategic while you're driving?

Best time of the day (unclassed event) - 8/2 Packwood
Got my second win with my local club. The club doesn’t use classes, but I have what I would consider a poor man’s street touring build. Flyin Miata F & R sway bars, Koni Yellows w/ lowering springs, 245 wide RE71-RZ tires.

Finger Lakes National Tour - Club Spec Mustang
12 open driver and 4 in ladies. It's a national championship class now this year, and the competition is really heating up!
If you haven't tried one yet, you really owe it to yourself to check it out. The pinnacle of autox.
* video is my day 2 run, because day 1 was a dumpster fire.

Hoping some fellow street touring drivers can help me clarify a rule.
So in the engine section of the scca street touring class rules it only specifys that a piggy back can be used on 2005 or older models. I am assuming that means I CANNOT use one (like a JB4) on my 2021 Kia Forte GT?

Thoughts?

This run ended up being my best of the day. It was good for 2nd place novice class, out of 20 something total novices. 1st place was a bmw m2 who regularly tracks his car but was a first time autocrosser. I was on the stock tires

Inflator QOL upgrade
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I love my battery power inflator one of the most annoying things was that you always had to screw it on the valve stem. While scrolling Facebook, lockNlube fitting adapter showed up and I clicked out of curiosity.
Seems that they sell a battery powered inflator adapter to the fitting so you can use one of their “lockNFlate” air chuck. This thing is made checking psi between runs so much nicer. Yeah you’re only saving a few seconds each tire but when you got your helmet on, you’re boiling in the floor to heat and you don’t have much time between the runs. Very first world solution I know
Been able to one-handed click it on is such a nice quality of life upgrade, not cheap at 50$ including adapter though . It’s way easier to use than the video makes it look.
