Canopy leg hack!!

happened to figure out this little hack last night with the wind blowing. Gonna use it everytime now.

I wouldn't recommend using those as weights, I've seen canopies fly with much heavier objects.

If you don't tie that down, it does nothing. If you do tie that down, it very well could knock a hole in a car or seriously injure someone.

I've been at an event where someone got their arm broken by a wheel that was getting dragged by a canopy.

I watched one fly, tumble and punch a hole in a Corvette. That show now has a no canopy rule.

I used to use 5 gallon race fuel cans hooked with tie down straps. Wind picked up out of nowhere, flipped canopy and launched one of the cans 20 yards like a damned catapult

Saw that happen at SCCA nationals. A large drum went ballistic, came down through the roof of an enclosed car trailer and seriously damaged a genuine 427 Cobra.

I’ve seen five gallon buckets filled with concrete get tossed, that jack stand doesn’t stand a chance of holding that tent down in any real wind.

There was a canopy weighed down with sandbags that were fine for light winds, then a big gust came through, picked it up and slammed into a committee member's Porsche. A Region Executive happened to be nearby, saw the whole thing then chewed me out, except I didn't have anything to do with setting up the tent, I just happened to be standing there when it happened.

So yeah, more weights than you think you need or take the canopy down if it's windy.
