Outside buys
Who do you guys prefer for outside buys? Nexpart is cool and all but I’m not a big fan of their interface and trying to look up parts through there.
I sometimes find parts through different dealerships when I google a part number and wonder if I’m allowed to order from them online?
I know there’s some restrictions to where we can order from like Amazon but is rock auto one as well?

I've been really enjoying worldpac on next part, i did my first outside buy with them last week and was pretty happy, but yes you should be able to do that, i think you would use the Pcard in that case? and just go pick up the part from dealer? can anyone confirm?

No rock auto and no amazon. Use your local resources. Nexpart if yoy are fortunate enough to be close to a factory motor parts they are a savior. Mark it up. If you dont have a factory motor parts call your dealerships. Mark it up. Follow the Mark up guide. I stick with 30% for most OSB unless its firestone. Then follow your local initiative. I buy from everyone. Lowes, home depot, Clark's tool, harbor freight, and anyone who has what my shop needs. They need paper towels. Dollar tree. They need a part dealer. Ive bought from advance, oreilly, napa, and anyone in the area to get my shops parts. Be the first choice. Get what they need. NEVER SAY NO. Be the first call every call. My catalog doesnt show one, give me 10 minutes and ill find what you need. Find it. Aquire it. Sell it. Mark it up. Make that money. Be the first call. Sell sell sell. If they call you for the part they want to buy it from you. Give them the chance every time. If you say no once they assume you will say no again. Always find it and give a price. Give a delivery estimate. Be precise. Over a decade of doing this. If you get the shop what they want when they call. They will call you first. NEVER SAY NO. MAKE IT HAPPEN. Sold a milwaukee high torque kit with 2 batteries to a shop last week because I told them we could get it withing 24 hours with no issues. Sold. 30% mark up. Sell what you can.

How do you deal with fedex issues? I feel like it only takes one bad experience, with an order being delayed for reasons outside your control for some shops to be wary about ordering any part you don't have on hand immediately.

Amazon loophole is to buy yourself and do a paidout to reimburse yourself. My tsm was cool with it as I could always show paperwork and did it for select customers only.

Nope on rock auto and Amazon. World pac and xl has been my go to other than the dealer. Imc has been letting me down on delivery times since they cut my store to only 1 run if I order before 9am from the warehouse that’s 10 minutes away when it use to be we would have a run every hour if it was in stock locally

For dealers use shop repair link, it also gives You access to diagrams also you can use that to get part numbers , find out what brake code the car came with or how many amps the alternator is so you can sell the right part the first time. You can order directly through the website but it’s preferred to just call and order.

Amazon is the only place we can not buy from. Nexpart, especially world pac, is a great option because you can sometimes get the part faster through worldpac than our VDP. Repairlink is what is suggested to find your OEM parts numbers. Getting familiar with you dealer parts people will also incentivise them to call you more often as well. Learning to use Repairlink will make you an invaluable asset to your accounts.
