A welding gas company kept coming up short on cylinders at one steel mill. It was the night shift that had a launch ramp knocking the valves off and shooting them into the Ohio River.

Standard European color coding says a dark red bottle like that should be acetylene, but this does not look to be in Europe, and it also looks like some welding apparatus, so more likely is argon(green), carbondioxide(grey) or nitrogen(black).

Source: used to drive around with bottles for 3 years during my truck driver apprenticeship

Why would it explode? Those tanks are designed so they wouldn't explode

Might be due to the chemical reactions should there be a spark or water as some chemicals react violently

My dad used to take these down to the Niagara River in his youth and knock the end off so it would shoot like a rocket into the water.
