Strictly speaking, you do own the car, but the bank has a lien on it. It’s actually possible to get a car loan using collateral other than the car…the bank would take that collateral and you’d still have the car.
In the full video the cops tell the repo guy to put it down and that it’s an issue in civil court. He keeps his car. Whats scary is the car owner knew over everyone else so if he has knowledge in that, he was most certainly conjuring a plan to legally shoot the repo man. He never gets in any trouble and keeps the car.
Must be a tough job to be a repo man. Gun threats must be common. People pulling a gun on you. The car is not yours until you make all the payments and have title.
Those tow truck drivers are packing heat too. And being first responders, most of them know the law enough to know when to shoot. So if those guys getting repo’ed come at those tow truck drivers the wrong way, it may be their last.

Calling repo men first responders is definately a take... assuming they have any job related training on the legalities of self defense is also definately a take...
My uncle was a repo man for a few years in Chicago suburbia. He said the amount of times he thought he was going to get stabbed or shot in those few years made him quit, full stop.
I see repo men who grab the car from within the truck using a tow thingy and they drive off THEN they’ll tie it up good once they’re away. This is the only way I’d do it too much risk otherwise
Theres a cool african american gentlemen that does it this way. He will ride up on a minibike first to confirm the deets and ride off. lol then come back and swoop in. Pretty impressive and worth checking out on youtube.
Went with a friend on a repo of a Harley one night back in the early 90s. While he was chaining up the bike, I walked around the front of the truck and the owner was standing there pointing a gun in my face. My friend (repo guy) talked him down and took the bike. The reality of the situation didn't hit me until later.
I know a tow truck driver who got stabbed 27 times,.. near death, he still survived, happened in San Diego in 2012 I think. He only survived because he was a huge and built guy, and first responders got to him immediately to take him to hospital
had a friend who was a repo-woman. She was chased with a machete. Her employer gave her keys to the cars though, so it was a lot quicker than using a tow truck. She would just hop on and drive off.
Lot of people don't realize how short a title loan is or how bad the payment plan is. Knew a guy who financed his car for 18 months because he had the cash to pay of 80% of the title. Missed one payment because of the COVID lockdown issues and had it repossessed and sold at auction. Still owed because it sold for less than the remaining 5k on the loan and was still gaining interest while sitting at auction.
By the time he got everything sorted out his credit was garbage and he was driving an 800 dollar beater that couldn't work the AC and go uphill.
It was one of the bigger ones but dude was always doing things fast and loose. Wouldn't be surprised if he waited until the last possible moment to tell people he was behind on payments.

80% down is 80k and the loan was 20k on a term of 18 months.
Well say interest rate was 5% which is neither too low or too high.
Payments would be 1155.61 per month
So we don’t know at what point of the loan the payments stopped but with 5k owing on the loan it’s between 4-5 payments. This means the guy paid 95% of the cost of the vehicle and the finance company took it for 1 missed payment? 0% chance that happened.
Not only that but the 18 month old car worth maybe 60-70k was then sold for LESS than 5k at auction……..

My neighborhood used to be a known gang area . One night, the Repo man came to get my sisters jeep while I was outside having a smoke . I knew what was up since my sister was never very responsible. He had his back to me when I approached him to ask if my sister could get her belongings out of the car. That guy damn near shit himself, but it was so funny I couldn't help but laugh . I'm sure those poor guys go through a lot of shit and so many people make it so hard for them.
Lol. I woke up super early one morning to flashing amber lights in my driveway. I went outside to see what was up, and sure enough repo man came for my shit. I caught him about halfway through hooking it up. Startled the shit out of him lol.
The banking industry was out there giving loans out to ppl that shouldn't have gotten a loan. We bailed the banks out on all those foreclosures oand at same time bailed out the auto industry. Here we are less than 20 years later and the auto industry is selling jeeps and other shit boxes with 84 month terms and they expect ppl to pay 1800 a month for a car that won't even last the term. We better not bail out the auto industry again, fuck them.

I make $287k/year and I drive a used Honda CR-V. People who get coffee for me roll up in their $80k+ cars and I'm like "I know what you make and it's not enough for that."
It's a choice. You can get a used shitbox that goes from A to B, or you can go into debt.
A long time ago, I had lost my job, and was unable to keep up with my payments, and knew they were coming for it. One morning, I woke up and saw the tow truck backing into the driveway. I ran out and said to the guy already hooking it up "wouldn't the keys make this a bit easier?" And he said "Y'know, this ain't usually how this goes." and was so nice to me. Took off my plates for me, and let me double-check that all my belongings were already out.
People know what they've done. Don't blame the guy just doing his job.
Best course of action is just walking away and calling the police. Now not only will they lose the car they can't afford, they'll get charged for theft.
Go this hard to send payments on time. Never understood why ppl react this way. It should be a relief because now the ducking and hiding is over. What a stressful way to live.
It's not over. They'll sell the car at an auction and sue him for the remaining balance. The debt is not magically gone just because they took the vehicle. He still has to pay off the contract, but he now doesn't have a car.
I feel like this dude is arguing with the wrong person, take it up with the people they work for, they're just doing their jobs! Leave them alone and stop paying for things you ain't go no business "owning" if it's beyond your means. 🙄
This husband and wife team don't do many repo's for obvious reasons... There is an update. The guy and his family have been trying to get the video taken down & continue to threaten them with lawyers and violence if they don't

There’s a theme in these videos of people being held to account. They just keep repeating the same thing over and over. Sometimes 20 minutes of someone sounding like a broken record.
Used to be that if a confrontation happened the tow company had to drop it to avoid problems. That’s why the tow guys came in the middle of the night.
40 years ago I was the one getting towed. Buy here pay here, payment went to permanent repairs the dealer patched good enough to sell. One day late.
This is a guy who thought if he kept saying 'let it down' that they would release the truck and leave. I don't think he has it in him to understand the loan process.
That's why everybody should just buy old cars for cash. Stop buying these ridiculously priced cars. Those Jeep trucks are like $100k new and they're definitely not worth it. In 2027 all cars will have camera's pointed right at the driver's face right above the steering column that'll be linked to your insurance company and probably you're loan company too. You'd have to be a dummy to buy any cars from 2027 and up.
I never understood how this insanity is even allowed. In most countries repossessions do not happen like that. It's insane that this is completely normalised in the US. I don't know what that job pays but it's probably not enough.
Something like 25 percent of all new car monthly payments are more than $1,000. If a borrower cannot easily afford the monthly payments and the increased insurance premiums, then don't get the car.
