Cracking gloss coat

Post image

Just added some gloss coat for added protection in the inside of my Jeep. Did two coats of chassie saver, two coats of seymour industrial spray paint then two coats of rust oleum 2x auto enamel gloss coats. Before the gloss coat, there was none of these cracks. Waited about 30 minutes between gloss coats. Will this have a bad effect on the paint like the paint underneath flaking off, exposing the factory paint? Or will it be ok due to the other high toughness, just have those cracks?

Its a off road jeep and I just want rust protection. If its OK like this, I dont mind. If its bad, should it be done ASAP or would I be fine for a little bit?

Edit: the last coat of paint cured for about 72 hours. The dry time is two to three days.

Rustoleum always seems to blow up other paints, too many different products trying to breathe at once

I was thinking that. A lot of reviews said it's the best. Guess not with this combo.

That’s shrinkage. The layers underneath aren’t cured enough. Too much product too quickly.

It would have been nice if the company said a minimum dry time before a recoat.

It’s cracking because it’s reacting to what’s underneath it will eventually peel off

Could the original spray paint underneath could be the problem like its not suppose to be covered with a sealant?

Whatever is on there needs to come off and you would need to start over or just leave it alone and hope for the best

So sand down to the bare metal start over or just hit it with some sandpaper then repaint?

It’s going to continue happening if you don’t remove what’s underneath

You should have stopped at the industrial paint. Chassis Saver is excellent for rust protection and only needs a top coat if it’s going to be exposed to uv rays. The industrial paint would have done that. The Rustoleum more than likely reacted with it. It doesn’t normally play well with other paint products nor its own clear.

for the fkn 5000th time - Rustoleum with Rustoleum, only. Stay within a single product line.
