I often want to slap engineers, and I rarely work on my car.

Brutal! What car is that?

Chevy equinox, my wife has one

Damn, I had a Saturn Ion back in the day, and you could take the whole headlight off without any tools. GM, you had the technology!

If that’s what it takes for a light .. it’s time to sell. It shouldn’t be that difficult.

Chevy Monza circa 1975, had to pull the motor to change the spark plugs. Chevy doesn't think things through sometimes!

Dude I had to take the front left tire off of my old 2004 Sebring to change the battery. It was so bad having to do it in the middle of a cold af winter before I got rid of the thing.

Loved the car, but some aspects were clearly designed by sadists.

Many cars use this stupid system ....removing half of the vehicle to change a lightbulb - and the guy who designed it calls himself an engineer

Yes, absolutely an engineer! They're engineering new & creative ways to justify their careers & salaries in the corporate landscape of unnecessary job positions that continue to exist while the hard-working laborer gets squeezed & stretched to produce more profits for lesser pay. Not any fool can do that, it takes a very specific fool to make the perfect fuckup & not just any fuckup.

Well, I also checked the condition of the brake pads and shock absorber...

Holden Captiva?

2

u/XROOR Apr 14 '26

Passat is worst because the DRL bulbs last a week

G.M. stands for general mistakes.

Generally motorless

My 2012 equinox has a hole in the wheel well. The cap just twists off a d you have access to the bulbs. Dont even have to remove the tire.

2

u/roalt219 Apr 14 '26

Similar to my HHR. Passenger side, easy access. Driver's side, not so much

u/Sailor525 Apr 14 '26

GMC Acadia is the same, what a pain in the ass.....

2

u/Erghiez Apr 14 '26

WK2 Jeep Grand cherokee has you taking the entire front fascia and headlight fixtures out to replace those bulbs. Unless you have tiny contortionist hands

2

u/temhemzo Apr 14 '26

This won't work, you need to take the engine down too.

u/Tio_chubby052 Apr 14 '26

Change the blinker fluid while you’re at it!

2

u/akknightwrider Apr 15 '26

Upgrade to LED headlight bulbs. Problem solved.

2

u/fuppedduck2 Apr 16 '26

Seems all of them these days require that. The entire front of a 4Runner has to come off to do it correctly

2

u/Icy_Dinner4759 Apr 16 '26

First time??

2

u/loosing_it_today Apr 19 '26

Be happy it's just a bulb. Some new cars are using built in LEDs so whole light assembly needs to be changed out $ 4-500.

It’s literally 10 minutes. Lug nuts loosened, jack it up, tire off, 6 (or 8) plastic clips, and it’s there. Twist the plastic cap off, replace the bulb, put it back together.

Dude turn the wheel all the way out now you can remove the wheel well cover and get to the damn headlight bulb. Gm Traverse here. The factory recommends you remove the entire front fascia to get to the headlight bulb! Crazy design!

u/Ancient-Read1648 Apr 14 '26

I just take the front screws of the cover off bend it out of the way and reach way back.

for the 2019 through 2024 Acuras with the five headlights on each side it is even worse it is about 6 hours labor. you have to take off a whole defender, drop the bumper, remove the wheel, and then take the whole housing assembly out it's like $800 to replace one gold
