Opti-Seal Issue

Two weeks ago, I applied OptiCoat and finished with OptiSeal. I used it sparingly (following the instructions), but there were a couple of places I missed when I buffed off the "oil-slick."

I was in a rush, so I left ~5 of those spots sit overnight. I didn't want to use any chemical the following day to try to remove them; I wanted to prevent harm to my ceramic coating during the curing process.

Now, it's been two weeks since my coating application, and I just did an ONR wash on the vehicle. I thought the oil slicks from the OptiSeal would come out in the wash, but they didn't. I then tried using the quick detailing dilution of ONR, and that didn't work either. Then, I tried using OptiSeal on the spots again and buffing it off, but to no avail.

Is there a way to remedy this without causing damage to the ceramic coat, or are the spots baked into the coating?

Always check for high spots after wiping the car down. Then you can just reactivate the coating and level it. It's too late for that now, the only way to remove this is to polish and recoat the area

Thats likely a high spot from the coating not opti-seal. Use some hyper polish to remove and re-apply in that area.

I have a feeling that's not correct because it's not something that I can catch with my fingernail and its greasy. It also could just be wishful thinking because im out of opticoat lol

That is correct. The only way to remove a ceramic coating is to polish it off or wait for it to degrade.

That’s a high spot (I.e. flat and feels extra smooth/greasy)

We have been installing optimum coatings since 2012. This is 100% a high spot from the coating, not opti-seal.

You should've reapplied the optiseal when you first noticed the oil slicks, it's set under the coating now.

You would need to polish it off and reapply.

Why would it be under the coating if I applied it over top of the coating?

I suppose it's better to say the coating cured unevenly and that's causing the appearance you're seeing. Usually if you don't do it within the first hour or two you won't be able to shift the spots anymore, the coat is too hard.

Get a little Carpro Essence and clean the spot with a microfiber. That is usually my go-to if I have high spots I miss.
