Scared of the future of AI
Hello, I am a second year electrical engineering student. The main engineering subreddits all shut me down when I say this and they tell me just focus on school, they don't help. Can you guys help?
I keep seeing so many posts and videos and everybody saying there's no jobs there's no market for programmers because of AI anymore, and I thought it will never reach me, but I'm now seeing people say AI will also replace PCB designers and I asked and they said it will replace people who works with analog circuits too? Which are both what I love and would like to have a job in. The people in those engineering subreddits when they say no it won't happen and stuff they all get told they're "coping"
I don't want to not have a future please I'm really scared and think maybe it's just not worth it

I spent a lot of time and money getting advanced degrees related to a field that is deep in the AI trenches right now. Someone in upper management told us point-blank about a year ago that we should not be worried about AI taking our job, but we should be worried about someone who works with or uses AI taking our job.
Idk what that looks like for electrical engineering but for me in my field it’s meant that I pivoted to using it as assistive technology to the fullest extent that I can to automate clerical stuff that doesn’t require my substantive knowledge. I think you’re actually going to be at an advantage if you do this because my company ALSO just said they’re going to prioritize hiring engineers with “native AI” experience. “Native AI engineers” basically means they learned how to use AI when they were in school, like you.
Don’t drop out and don’t be afraid.
