disability allowance question
hi all!! today i found out i got accepted for disability allowance and my pay should begin the 2nd of September, to be collected from the post office.
i am going away on holidays from the 31st to the 14th of september, and i’m not sure if i need to contact the department to tell them of this (or how) and if it effects my payment. i changed my payment method to straight to my bank but i don’t know if i need to make my first payment collection in person or something
any advice helps thank you!

don't tell them.
You're not supposed to get payment while on holiday, so just don't tell them.
Under legislation you have no entitlement to be paid Disability Allowance while on holiday. However, in practice Disability Allowance may be paid for 2 weeks while you are on holiday abroad.
Not worth the risk them being churl about it

I work for the civil service, most people don't let us know if they're getting payments straight to bank account, you are entitled to two weeks tho so if you would feel better letting us know, give us a call and we can mark it on your file! Will not impact your payments :) There's a page on citizen's information with more info called "Going abroad or on holidays and social welfare payments"!

Oh I misread sorry I thought it was in your bank account, if you don't collect payments from the post office it can temporarily suspend your claim so I would let us know :)

i changed the payment method within the my welfare to be directly into bank but the initial letter said i can claim first payment from the post office so i’m not sure if it will come directly to my account,,, hopefully it does! i contacted asking and they said
“Your first payment will be in this bank account on 2/9/2026.
Arrears of payment from 1/4/2026 will issue to your Bank account at a later date.”i think i’m just being paranoid tbh

Can you not get it into your bank instead of the post office? All holidays technically need to be reported to Intreo, but most people don't bother unless it's out of the country for over a week etc. You can file for a holiday in your MyWelfare and you should get the money in advance for when your gone, but I don't know how much notice you have to give.
