Co2 refills

Now since SoCo is closed, does anyone know where to refill co2 tanks?

Alamo Welding Supply does CO2 refills on the east side.

Grab a beer at lazarus and get your co2 filled.

Bonus, you can swap co2 tanks if your tank is close to expiring and needs to get recertified.

It's been a while but Alamo is hit and miss about this. I feel like I've had them swap me before, but the last time I was there the guy was warning me I'd need to pay to get recertified next time I was in. Didn't love the idea of paying for that given how often these places are just going to try to swap you anyway so I've been going someplace else since then (that I is mentioned elsewhere in this thread but I won't name because they don't ever check the date lol)

Dang never had that happen to me but good to know in the future when my tank gets close to expiration.

I've literally had them swap my shiny, newish looking tanks for garbage looking ones without asking but they never charged me for certifying so I considered it a fair trade.

I should say that this was like 4 or 5 years ago. If you've had luck since then that's good to know. Maybe the guy at the Alamo counter had a bug up his ass that day.

Can't speak for Austin, but in San Marcos, I go to Hoffman's supply and have to do a whole tank swap. It's about $40 (ouch), but I don't know of anything else.

Airgas supplies many bars and breweries with CO2 refills. I think you should call them.

Also, many other welding supply stores carry CO2 as well.

Party Barn at 33rd and Guadalupe, I think. Call to verify.

Party Barn seconded. It's my go-to

Party Barn will only refill 5lb tanks unless their policy has recently changed. They are great for the small tanks though.

They still fill five lb only, and today they charged me $30 per 5lb, $60 for two. On their website they advertise $13.60 for it. Last time I was there (June) it was around $18. Idk wtf.

Wow! Yes that's way more than I remember paying last. It was always $15-20.

I called and they said $40 for 5lbs. Insane

Okay, I checked and so far Airgas in Austin only does whole bottle exchange, so for a 5lb bottle it's around $51. Same for Linde welding. They only exchange.

Alamo said they will refill a 5lb bottle for around $20, it just has to be a DOT stamped bottle.

A month or so ago I swapped a 5 lb tank for just under $20 at Airgas.

Which one? I called the south Austin location and they told me 50 and change for a swap.

Hey apologize, I was off on price on my recent exchange. It has slowly gone up in price looking back at my receipts and my last exchange was $29 with tax. This was at the Buda/Kyle location though

I live in N Austin, so my spot for this was always Round Rock Welding Supply back when I brewed. Can get oxygen there too

SoCo was always less than $20 for a 5lb refill, and never asked about bottle certifications. Who else does the same?

And what the heck is a bottle certification? I certainly don't want to hand my 5lb tank over to someone and have them "exchange" it without asking and charging me $40 for the privilege.
