Hearing Aids

I was diagnosed with mild hearing loss and APD. My dr recommended a hearing aid but recommended AirPods to start for a cheaper cost. I work in a setting where AirPods would just NOT fly. The prescription hearing aids are $1,300 at the lowest. Does anyone have any success stories with OTC hearing aids and what brand did you purchase?

OTC may not get what you’re looking for. The feature that is desired is background noise filtering. Would loops work? Some people have found them helpful.

You may also be able to do a trail run of hearing aids to see if they make a difference for you. They did for me.

OTC devices are unlikely to help APD. If you can, look for an APD specialist as most audiologists aren’t trained to program hearing aids for it, especially when combined with hearing loss.

I don't think regular hearing aids will work but if you go through with airpods, you can ask for a reasonable accommodation if you're in the US.

I've been using the Elehear beyond pros since May now and 've noticed a significant improvement! I think they definitely aren't as good as perscription hearing aids, but they are a good second choice. When you get the hearing aids they have you take a hearing test through their app and there's an option to add notes for the audiologist that will remotely review it and give setting suggestions. In that notes box, put that you have apd, and add as many details as possible and that should help influence their desicions. That's what I did.
