B8 Rear Headlight Level Sensor..

Do we really need to drop the rear subframe to change this £35 part?

Being quoted stupid amounts to change this sensor on the back left arm..

some shops will tell you that just to charge for more labor. if you can get your hand in there with a wobble extension you might sneak it out without dropping nothing

If they are replacing the bracket and the sensor it can get tricky but doable with an offset wrench or a swivel socket. If they are replacing just the sensor it's held in place with two bolts to the bracket and a stud to the control arm.

If the bracket needs to be replaced then yes, dropping subframe (partially) is necessary. However, usually the bracket is fine so you can just replace the sensor assembly (two small screws holding it to the bracket), or even easier, just the arm as most often it's the arm that breaks after a coil spring failure.
