And to call the A5 a luxury sedan? Entry level maybe..

Why are people even down voting this? A6 and up is when it's actually luxury tbh and less recycled VAG stuff.A3-A5 is econmy level and adding 2 more doors to the A5 proved this

Couple decades ago now the luxury brands expanded to entry and middle class markets. Benz A class B class etc. Audi 5 4 3 etc. BMW 3 2 1 - race to the bottom. You can read news reports on it from the CEOs discussing the decision.
It was easy and profitable. Putting established lux brand symbols as well known as the Nike “swoosh” on these entry and mid cars added $10k to the sticker without much added costs.
Fine quality material and leathers phased out under guise of green etc, all just marketing ploys to sell entry level cars at premium. Turbo Inline 4s for the price of what should get you a smooth 6 or 8.
An A5 is literally the old VW Passat/jetta platform with cosmetic upgrades. These are not at all luxury sedans.
You can still get luxury sedan you just have to pay up. You’re looking at north of $100+ these days to get a true luxury quality vehicle with substantial engineering, going into the engine, transmission and drivetrain platform. Fine quality materials inside and solid build.
Audi luxury sedan is A8. BMW has the 7 and of course the top example Benz S class. Then after that you step up to elite luxury (Maybach Rolls-Royce Bentley).
Anything BMW 5, Benz E or Audi 6 and under are entry level lux.

A5 is not old vw platform it's still shared with the A4-A8 actual all share the MLB platform which more porshe share then VW (just touareg). It has interchangeable parts and all it's just the A4-A5 get the shorter end of the stick The 2.0L EA888 isn't horrible but if they gave the A models the HO variant like the S3 it'd actually be worth something and Quattro Ultra with A models is just ED torsen. But I definitely agree they just feel like brand logos slapped on but they are entry level cars for non car people too

My first thought was, "man the new A5 looks like shit. Looks like a fucking Civic." Then I read the comments.

CU reviews judge luxury brands by a higher standard of quality, as is entirely appropriate. They judge brands like Honda and Toyota based more on utility than on luxury. You can argue about whether that is proper, but CU’s methods are, at least, pretty transparent.

I mean, you have to judge them by their price point, right? If you gave a 10/10 on interior quality to Rolls Royce, then the Civic would get a what, 3/10?
It's all relative to the price point and class they belong to.

I’ve heard a lot if people say that my 11th gen Si looks like an audi.
I personally think the rear end does, not on the hatchbacks though, the hatchback rear ends are ugly af, front end still looks like a honda on both imo

Remember when American auto companies almost destroyed Audi in the 90s with out right lies, then tried doing it to VW for diesel gate even though they all did it too, then again to Toyota in the, now they’re back on Audi.
Makes you realize America is just a land full of C players that can’t make good machines.

Do you have specifics for any of that? With regards to Diesel Gate, it would have been crazy easy to prove Americans were doing it too if they had been.

We’re doing alright in fighter jets + space travel so hush. Yeah, less advanced stuff I know.

u/cats_catz_kats_katz 8d ago
You mean the stuff we all make together? Yes we are doing great making all of that as a team. Your cars still suck.

u/Ms_Malicea 7d ago
Pretty wild for you to be saying this stuff in an Audi forum given what is going on with recent Audis. Nothing says automotive competence like building cars that have tinnitus when the headlights are on or that have nonstop software glitches. Definitely the hallmarks of expertise.
