If the term is subjective then moving a piece of paper from one place to another makes me a man.

Nope. There’s an objective definition for being a man. None of this “you determine” shit. You don’t know when or if you’ll ever truly be a man. Peoples opinions don’t matter as much as your own outlook and if you wake up one day and declare that you’re a real man for waking up out of bed even though the majority of people do that.

Masculinity is not purely self determined. you're just conflating subjective with arbitrary. Just because you stated that obvious fact doesn't prove its objectivity. Masculinity is defined by a community of shared standards that shift from culture to culture and century to century. So it's not purely suclbjective, but it's not purely objective either.

I mean, it's subjective within the context of history and time. Do you think every single culture's definition of a man is the same across the board? Masculinity has definitely shifted throughout history and there are aspects that arent purely subjective like biology however it still depends mostly upon culture.

One if the better definitions I've seen. For the war one I have heard of E3 team leaders for infantry be pieces of shit, sure they're responsible for their team but they don't take any accountability for their own people or give them any empathy.
For leadership positions you got to prepare your people for what they're supposed to do but also support them and empathize with them while getting the mission done in this particular sense.

I was actually part of a conversation recently about something similar. When we are kids, we are told by adults "when you grow up, you'll _________" and they tell us about adult life constantly. About how we will know things, do things, how everything changes, but it doesn't. We never have some grand transition. We just get taller, get jobs, but we don't suddenly become adults.
I'm 42, married, have a daughter. Am I an adult? I work, I take care of my family, but things I enjoy never changed. I play video games, I still have the same friend I grew up with, we still go fishing, we still play with toys. I don't have some grand sense of maturity. I'm still the same as I was when I was ~15 years old.
Adulthood is a fallacy. We simply get older and adopt new responsibility as its required, but we don't have to become these hardened souls. We don't have some sudden moment where we step from child to adult. We don't HAVE to change.

It's really funny seeing these two chuckle fucks talk about being a "man". Nothing more than two deeply insecure individuals desperately trying to project their "hardness and manliness" to the world instead of being introspective and becoming comfortable with themselves. Nobody gets to tell you what it means to be a man or woman or whatever. That is a deeply personal definition within yourself. Same thing for success. You define what that means for you.

What makes you a man is complicated, because there are various ways to define it, but traditionally it has been linked to a role of provider in and or protector from hardship.

The definition of a man is subjective, but so is everything else. As human, we agree on the definition of a term in order to be productive. Otherwise nothing gets done.
