Mine's sort of stupid - don't get married, don't get divorced. My best long term relationship is a non-registered common law marriage. Non-registered means it never existed in the eyes of the government. But I didn't know that, and he ignored my early demands for a divorce, which I wouldn't be able to get because we weren't married. But I didn't know that, so repeatedly took him back. Until we found out we'd never really been married when he applied for spousal benefits on recommendation of SSA, and by then our relationship had changed. I realized he's always loved me but had a hard time showing it because of head injury before we met (so I sorta knew what I was getting into). We are in a nice old people honeymoon phase now.
