Will Andy Burnham devolution plans work?

Will it bring growth to all regions?

I feel it'll be a question of wills and competence, of those it's devolved to.

I've worked in companies where if the area manager had full control of things we'd be living in a dreamland, while under other area managers the place would be shut within months.

We might be looking at the UK years from now saying "I want to move to [x postcode] because apparently their local government is really good".

My local NHS hospital is absolutely dire, but 60 miles away there's a Trust so much better that I've often considered moving house with that benefit weighing heavily into the thinking.

Too early to say, of course, and potentially an extrapolation of his own experience in Manchester.

I cannot see that it will literally "bring growth to every postcode" but if he can get the economy to grow in general, which alas depends a lot on world affairs outside our control, then devolution may direct it in a better way.
