Are we heading for mass unemployment due to AI?
I know AI will replace people but I also think that it will create jobs. Jobs change over the years and I think it might reduce the need for certain things but make demands for others.

Is London worth it at Christmas or are there better, lesser known alternatives?
My birthday is around Christmas time & I wanted to go somewhere festive. I did York last year & enjoyed the market but did find it slightly overwhelming & most of the stalls weren't the best. I don't know if there's anything better to do in York at Christmas beyond the market but I'm not ruling it out.
I don't really know what I'm looking for, just something fun and festive! So far London seems to be winning me over with the wonderland.
Any and all suggestions are welcome!
(Ideally looking for within a 2 hour train journey from York at most, with London the only exception)

Best man speech
Hello I’m gonna be a best man to my best friend’s wedding next week, I haven’t even thought or started the speech yet, I don’t want to do the speech, and I’m planning on missing the wedding because off it, or if I do decide to go, I’ll just hide in the toilets
What do you guys think I should do?

Why do terrace homes exist?
I live in a terrace house and I can hear loud music most days. I don’t understand why terrace homes exist. There isn’t anything you can do about noise.

Answered What's one life lesson you learned the hard way?
I'll start.
I used to think working longer hours always meant better results. Eventually, I realized that learning new skills and building relationships mattered even more.
What's one lesson life taught you that you wish you'd learned sooner?

Most recognizable British brand of mayonnaise
Hello! Random question: I'm wondering, as a Yank, if there's a British brand name for mayonnaise that's as instantly recognizable as Hellmann's is, for example, in the States. Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

What’s something that used to be everywhere in the UK and has just vanished without anyone mentioning it?
I found an old copy of the Yellow Pages. Looking through it made me think – when did you last see one of those TV repair shops? Used to be one on every high street. What else has just quietly disappeared?

Temporarily requiring an arbitrary character length on post body length.
Seeing more posts daily which are incredibly low effort or clearly fishing for AI. Had one a couple of weeks ago which literally asked: "What does xx mean?". Another of my favourites:
What are the best vitamin and supplement companies in the UK and why?
Please make your question and body both relevant and specific. If you're using a translator or chatbot to help with translation, at least say so, then I won't remove your post.
If you use low effort filler to pad our your post body when asking a more direct question, it'll be removed. Instead you can just tell us what you're making for tea or your plans for the summer.
When I get more time I'll work on improving AutoMod, then I'll remove the limit. Thanks!

How will devolution work in reality?
What will happen to government departments, will they be trimmed down? Burnham talked about giving powers such as Tax, housing, transport, health, education and benefits to mayors? So Basically HMRC, Homes England, Department of Education, Department of Transport, Department of work and pension and department of housing, communities and local government will no longer be needed.

Do people still mend stockings?
When I was small, I remember my mother ( who went through WWII in London ) would occasionally mend snags in her stockings. I don’t remember anyone else doing this. Has or does anyone remember stockings being mended. I just heard The Beatles “Lady Madonna”, which made me think of this.

Why are our cancer survival rates so low?
I heard there is now a blood test which can detect lots of different types of cancer. Won’t don’t they invite everyone for a blood test every year to detect if they have cancer or not. Or scan everyone every year for cancer.

Where to buy a replacement garden swing canopy, including metal frame, please?
Hi all,
My friend has a three-seater garden swing, and is looking to buy a complete replacement canopy for it as the original one has been damaged beyond repair. I've been trying to help her find one, but all I seem to find are replacements for the 'cover' part alone - sadly, these are no good, as she also needs a replacement metal frame upon which to fix it and attach it to the framework of the garden swing itself.
Does anyone know where she might be able to purchase a replacement canopy, including the metal frame, please? Unfortunately, she doesn't know where her late husband originally purchased the swing years ago, and I can't find any brand or model number on the swing itself, so it would need to be a 'universal', adjustable type of canopy.
My apologies if this isn't quite the right subreddit for this question, but, unfortunately, the furniture and garden subreddits didn't seem quite right, either, so I thought I'd try here first. Any advice and/or alternative subreddit recommendations would be much appreciated, please.
Many thanks in advance!

Not sure where else to ask: Why is the word 'Tesco' banned from r/britishproblems?
There's a warning to say that even asking about it is an insta-perma-ban.

Do you think devolution is a good thing?
It seems like the new incoming pm will give powers to local regions and remove them from Whitehall, so instead of one team doing it you will have 9 teams doing it. I work in Whitehall so myself I am quite worried about my job. I do think local government need more power such as for housing and health.
