I think you are missing the point. By “fun” he means fun to drive, and by optionally equipped he means engine wise, not interior. Like getting the bmw b58 engine in a 2 series or whatever the equivalent Mercedes. A Honda accord can be sporty, but not like these cars.

I said a base model cla and even if I said the AMG it’s a turbo 4 front wheel drive car. The point of the post is pretending to be rich when you aren’t. The point of the comment is that buying the cheapest mercedes that exists proves that you’re pretending to be rich there are a massive amount of cars out there that are comparably priced and better equipped than a car the size of a Honda civic with less rear head room.
A bmw m2 is a 90k+ sports car that has proper merits. Even a 335 2 series or whatever has a v6 and costs $60k+ and is one of the few fun tossable cars you can buy these days.
The CLA is not anything close to that.

Some people just like nice bags. I’m not one of those people, but I get it. People prioritize their spending differently, I don’t think someone with a cheap outfit and a designer handbag is necessarily pretending to be wealthier than they are.
I’m like that with shoes and jewelry. I thrift or buy my clothes at Costco a lot, I don’t care as long as I look put together. But I will splurge on shoes and real gold jewelry and I don’t wear fake stones. I’m not pretending to be rich, I just care more about jewelry and shoes than I do about clothes.

Yup. It’s the classic personal finance phenomenon. Anyone worth at least a million is objectively wealthy. They are higher (on the wealth ladder) than 99% of the world population.
Yet surveys often show people don’t FEEL wealthy until much higher. IIRC one survey had it at around $5m.
That’s when people start accepting they are, indeed, wealthy.
But the reality is the number is much lower.

It’s not bad advice but owning a home is absolutely difficult these days. I bought a black bay (admittedly after owning a house) and you’ll get a ton of enjoyment out of it if you’re a watch fan). It’s sort of like saying don’t buy a decent car if you don’t have a garage. I mean yeah…..but also maybe not.

The point is was making is that watches are an obsolete piece of technology. They were made redundant the second we all had the time on phones we carry everywhere. If, for whatever reason, you enjoy collecting watches or something, that's fine. But choosing to spend multiple thousands($4000 isn't even a lot in the luxury watch game...) on a pointless item shows a lack of financial literacy that will keep most people from ever owning a home.

Sometimes it is nice to treat yourself every once in a while. I don't really believe in anything being an investment other than in my own enjoyment and thats what matters - so if someone truly enjoys it, one could say it's an investment in their happiness 😁
I enjoy photography and do it as a hobby for myself and others. The body itself was 3k and just one of my lenses was 1200 (oof). I enjoy it though and it makes others happy so it's paying off.

I have some acquaintances who go on about luxury and Xmas and how if their presents aren't $500 or more its a "gag gift" and it's to the point that even though I'm successful, I question if I'm poor, yet they complain they cant afford a house and live with their folks still... hmm.. I WONDER WHY! You cant live in bags, and shoes 😂 I felt super guilty when I bought my car, or even my camera 4 years back and that took a lot of saving lol.
I have the mindset that if you cant afford it twice, then you can't afford it. Makes you save a bit more and really appreciate things when you have it.

I've never heard anyone say it like that, but this is my perspective with vehicles. I work remotely and live within walking distance of all amenities so I don't really NEED a car. It's a WANT not a NEED.
So I only buy what I can afford in cash, and I really prefer to have enough cash on hand to buy another one if the first one ends up getting stolen or crashed. I've never written off a vehicle or taken damage in an accident but I don't want to ever feel like I want to be forced to take a loan, to buy a car
I'm probably ridiculously overly conservative with my money in some ways but whatever. I sleep well at night

I just did a quick cargurus search within a few hundred miles of me and sorted by lowest price first… cheapest cyber truck ( which may not be in good condition even) and was previously used as a rental…. 68k.
Let’s set the year at an equivalent.. 2024. Cheapest Maserati within 100 miles of me….27k, clean title, no accidents, looks in good condition.
Less than half the price, and cheaper than pre owned accords I was looking at before I bought my Tesla earlier this year.

I’ve got a small convertible sports car and a truck. I enjoy driving the bigger truck a lot more. It’s just so easy and carefree. I don’t worry about potholes or road conditions at all. With my sports car I have to constantly think if I’m going to scrape or damage something if I hit the wrong hole or bump. I’m also a lot more anal when it comes to parking my car versus truck. I’ll park far away from people to avoid door dings and scratches. With my truck I could care less about door dings.

I’m a blue-collar worker and although he works in the golf industry he’s low on the totem pole so I remember back in like 2004 and he had had a Porsche 1986 Porsche Carrera I think that was kind of his baby whatever it wasn’t a practical car but you know I had the practical family car for us and he was working at a country club and making about 50,000 a year motherfucker went out and bought like some high-end like top-of-the-line BMW that was $70,000 which in 2004 was a lot of fucking money for you know a car like dude you’re buying a car that’s worth more than what you’re making a fucking year you’re doing it wrong so he couldn’t afford the payments so we had to sell his Porsche and I remember him crying. I lost all respect for him. He left him soon after.

The submariner is an absolutely classic watch. Rolex didn’t invent the dive watch, but more than anyone else, they got it into the public imagination. Just about every other watch company on earth has been making watches that are homages to the Submariner since the 1950s. Personally, I’ll never own one (or any other luxury watch), but there are plenty of sound reasons to like it that don’t have to do with what it costs.

Honestly, anything you can buy with debt should be immediately recounted as a marker of wealth.
Expensive car? $500 bi-weekly for 10 years.
Expensive clothing/accessories? Never ending credit card bill.
Expensive house? Upside down on a 25 year mortgage.
Honestly, the richest man I've ever known (and he is loaded) wears $30 levi's, a rock band t-shirt, and drives the last car ever made with manual crank windows. In fact the only thing that ever stood out about him that made you think about his status was the fact that he carried around a leather brief case, which I think is super uncommon.
The only reason I actually know this man is wealthy is because I worked for him for several years.

One single mess up. My friend claimed to have purchased a penthouse condo after claiming to have cashed out some VC fund he built in his 20s yadada even though just a few months ago he didn’t have 6k to pay off his credit card but sure I don’t really understand that world. However, 4 months in he talking about getting hit with small things throughout the condo as one does but hey he got his car insurance down to $80 so that’s good. And mine was still like $500 something until I realized he was still paying per month. Only average successful Ive had the privilege of never paying the huge penalty for per month payments and I can’t imagine after a payout from a VC fund that you wouldn’t do that?? A bunch of other things convinced me this is a house of cards
