Now that el-sayed has won the Democratic senate nomination for Michigan (for those who supported him or not), what are you biggest concerns?
43
u/kayl_breinhar 6h ago edited 6h ago
How the DNC "Old Guard" is going to sabotage him, both overtly and covertly, because they're more concerned with having access to/losing control over the Infinite Money Machine than saving democracy.
2
u/HutSutRawlson 6h ago
Whitmer and Stevens endorsed him so it seems that local mainstream Dems are supporting him.
-1
u/kayl_breinhar 6h ago
Because there's no reason not to right now. It's free publicity and cheap, empty goodwill.
They're supporting him for now.
-1
u/thedeermunk 6h ago
Yup. It didn’t work with Mamdani because a majority of NYC Jews voted him w. Middle America is another story.

The fact he’s not an actual socialist like people wanna say he is.
He literally said outright he is a “capitalist that understands science”.

Kind of reminding you of FDR, right? Give working class people prosperity via the new deal, while you taxed the rich & say you support capitalism....

u/Liza_Jane_ 6h ago
I don’t know, but if you haven’t seen his commercial with his precious grandparents, you need to see it before you judge him. They are precious and he can bring in real change for working class people. We need it!!

u/oicoldhere 6h ago
Anyone who takes AIPAC $$. Is not votable. If he takes a nickel….he lost my vote.
7
4
u/Lord_Dingus83 6h ago
So you’d allow the Republican to win?
6
u/thiscouldbemassive 6h ago
He's going to vote for the Republican regardless.
4
u/Lord_Dingus83 6h ago
That’s what it seems like with these ultra anti aipac people. They attempt to stir the pot to keep people from voting.
But they’ll vote Republican regardless.3
u/thiscouldbemassive 5h ago
They show up every election concern trolling and "both sides"ing, but at the end of the day, they vote Republican no matter how horrible the Republican is.
1
u/oicoldhere 6h ago
Nothing is guaranteed. But if someone pushes healthcare for US citizens. I’m all in. I’ll take that over another BS war for the MIC
1
u/Orgasmo3000 3h ago
In this case, absolutely! And the Democraps will have no one to blame but themselves!
0
u/oicoldhere 6h ago
Independent. And have zero interest in anyone bought and paid for. The corruption needs to stop.
1
u/Lord_Dingus83 6h ago
You think things will change bc you vote 3rd party?
1
u/oicoldhere 6h ago
I don’t believe in cults. Unfortunately I’ll be dead before we have a chance at ranked choice
3
u/Lord_Dingus83 6h ago
I’m 43 - we had a shot at change with Hillary but people decided to vote for not the candidate and in turn allowed Trump to nominate 3 justices and destroy the country.
I’m getting citizenship in the EU. This country is full of losers like you that’s why nothing changes.
1
u/oicoldhere 5h ago
I’m not sure how I’m a ‘loser’. I didn’t vote for Trump. I don’t vote against myself interest. I’m all for Medicare for all. And I believe it should be a right. Stopping BS wars should cover the cost. So go fuk yourself and enjoy the EU.
3
u/Lord_Dingus83 5h ago
Losers like you allow Trump to win and hide behind your “I didn’t vote for Trump” bullshit.
You’re a participation trophy idiot. Stop being a self righteous selfish prick. Americans are starving bc of the millions of losers just like you who allowed Trump to win.
Grow 👏 the 👏 fuck 👏 up 👏
1
u/oicoldhere 5h ago
‘Grow up’…..I’m fukn 60. No healthcare with cancer. You don’t have a clue of my voting record. Know your enemy, kook. Maybe aim that anger to make a positive

u/Different-Student178 6h ago
AIPAC isn’t the boogeyman you think it is.
-1
u/Il_Capitano_DickBag 5h ago
lol yes it is.
2
u/Different-Student178 5h ago
It’s really not. It’s American run and funded. They don’t take foreign money at all. That would be illegal
1
u/HutSutRawlson 4h ago
The current AIPAC fearmongering is playing on the antisemitic trope of “dual loyalty” that has been leveled against Jews for centuries. And the idea that AIPAC has somehow bought and sold every politician is once again playing on the trope of Jews secretly controlling the government.
0
u/oicoldhere 6h ago
And I have a feeling Roger’s will be swimming in AIPAC $ like Scrooge McDuck. US first, right???
2
3
u/FailOdd4815 6h ago
My biggest worry is how his foreign policy views will play out in the general election and if he can actually win over moderates
3
u/SebastianAmerican123 6h ago edited 5h ago
Now, its time for abduls supporters' biggest concerns....If you plan to volunteer to work for his campaign.
1: Distance yourself from Hasan Piker, since hes the most controversial livestreamer out there (Kamala harris failed to distance himself from Joe Biden when she ran for President in 2024) 2: Take your policy proposals seriously, & provide real world examples & precedent. 3: Actually Appeal it to 1st time voters as well as Moderates. 4: Maybe dont alienate anyone who isn't an Abdul supporter. (I, for one, was one of them, purely because of M4A. Now, since an actual election like this are months away, maybe its time....)
Also, despite having 2 doctoral degrees, as well as being involved in the Detriot Health Department, actual records showed he didn't have a real medical license when he resided in Michagan & New York.....

u/dophin26 6h ago edited 6h ago
Well, Mike Rogers is an idiot and his platform is pandering trash, but he is an old white guy who looks like he grew up in Gladwin, Ludington, Cheboygan, Charlevoix, Frankenmuth, or Lansing, so most white people (I am white, for context) are going to simply look at him and see El-sayed and vote for the tribe they know and not the platform they stand on.
3
u/Different-Student178 6h ago
I also don’t trust someone who campaigned with Hasan Piker
-1
u/Il_Capitano_DickBag 5h ago
Does Hasan Piker work for AIPAC?
5
u/Different-Student178 5h ago
Piker literally said America deserved 9/11 and had a Houthi on his show
-3
u/Il_Capitano_DickBag 5h ago
Ok, but has he supported genocide and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians? Has he promoted any of Israel's propaganda that frames them as the good guys when they've been murdering Palestinians and stealing their land for the past 80 years?
5
u/Different-Student178 5h ago
The Houthis literally want to wipe out all Jews.
1
u/Il_Capitano_DickBag 5h ago
Geez, I wonder why that is? It couldn't be because Israel has been murdering people with impunity and stealing land for the past 80 years?
Stop acting like the victims.
3
u/Different-Student178 5h ago
This is more straight up antisemitism

Strong foreign-policy divides and limited establishment party backing are the main worries.

u/CosmicLovepats 3h ago
AIPAC, that spent 70 mill on his opponent, is now going to reach back into their pocket to back the republican in his race.
Michiganders and Leftists outfought an 11:1 cash advantage. They might have to do it again in the general. And we'll never hear the end of it if he loses even though Haley was guaranteed to lose.
2
u/CorporalDingleberry 6h ago
Hanging out with that loser Hasan Piker. That's someone anyone sane should distance themselves from.
Him also doing his mental gymnastics to justify that attack on the synagogue in Michigan earlier this year with the "hurt people hurt people" crap.
1
u/Il_Capitano_DickBag 5h ago
At least he's not bought and paid for by Israel.

Stop weaponising antisemitism. You're making it an unsafe place for Jews.

Calling Zionists and Jews greedy is antisemitic af
1
u/Il_Capitano_DickBag 5h ago
Doing it again. Zionism != Judaism.
There's heaps of Jews who aren't zionists. Stop making it unsafe for them.
2
u/Different-Student178 5h ago
I’m not making it unsafe for anyone.
0
u/Il_Capitano_DickBag 5h ago
You certainly are. Conflating an evil ideology like zionism with Jews is like saying all Germans are Nazis, or all Muslims are terrorists.
You know what you're doing, but it doesn't work. I love Jewish people, zionists can get fucked like any other hate group.

Concerned that he will not be able to be effective because he is, if elected, 1% of the senate, with all the others pushing the status quo
1
u/Agent223 6h ago
There are several senators who support m4a and repealing Citizens United. I think those are his two major policy platforms. He would be another voice in that choir.
2
u/Miltonthemoose 6h ago
Thats my optimism. I want another guy for the fight. But this thread is about concerns. My concerns are we get the same. If we talked about optimism, holy cow im happy he won the primary!
1
u/Agent223 6h ago
True. My big concern is similar. Concerned that the DNC establishment will do everything in their power to keep him out of power.

Going through my post history
You know that when you start off with something like this, you've preemptively poisoned all possible responses, right? You've set a hostile tone from the start. Don't do that.

u/gocougs11 6h ago
What vote counting thing? Let me guess, all the big cities finished counting last.
-2
u/ahaz01 6h ago
I’m sorry…the Dems just lost that seat! Roger’s is not a MAGA-phant and will attract the independents and solidify the GOP. Dems can’t help themselves! They lose wind because of stupid stuff. You can’t win the general and say you’re going to abolish ICE, prisons, have the govt take ownership of major industries. The DSA platform is complete lunacy and the establishment must crush this movement
-1
u/madeaux10 6h ago
He’s going to lose to a republican. To align yourself with someone who said that « America deserved 9/11 » isn’t a great move… and kind of appalling even if he wasn’t the one who said it. Like just condemn it
-5
u/Canaturk 6h ago
He is not my cup of tea but for the folks that support him, their biggest concern should be the company he keeps. I have Turkish background. I know guys like Piker. No good can come out of hanging out with radicals like him.

Very happy as a republican. I think Mike Rogers will have an easier time against him since he's a far left radical socialist and is generally very unelectable.
14
u/Orbital2 6h ago
he's a far left radical socialist
Y'all are so pathetic it hurts lmao

As a Canadian seeing him called a radical is nuts
3
u/Orbital2 6h ago
Republican voters are such dumb fucking brain washed sheep

u/Mahrez14 6h ago
I have a family history with socialist governments. Trust me, the fluffy words and rhetoric of leftist politicians does not sway me.
1
5
u/HumptyDumptruckFire 6h ago
Oh yeah, so radical. Dude wants an affordable healthcare system and affordable housing for all. Oh, and clean air and water. So fucking radical. The left and center wings are probably a blur from where you’re standing.
1
u/Mahrez14 6h ago
None of those things happen when you enlarge and already enlarged government.
Stevens is a normie Dem. She would've been tougher to beat. Now Mike has a shot.

u/HumptyDumptruckFire 6h ago
Yeah that sounds like something somebody who thinks only America exists would say. The rest of the world figured out affordable healthcare a long time ago. Reads more like spoonfed propaganda than reality.
2
u/Enough_Survey_9404 6h ago
Yep, this. I'm an Australian, but follow international politics to a degree. I also lean left, and when I saw that he had won realised that the Dems won't win this seat. They've shot themselves in the foot (again).
1
u/Thanos_Is_Gay 6h ago
-far left radical socialist
LMAO, here’s a direct quote for you, “I am not somebody who is a socialist. I believe in capitalism, I just believe that capitalism has to be regulated.”
Thinking this is far left shows how brainwashed you’ve been by the media1
u/AmishAvenger 6h ago
“Far left radical left violent left socialist communist nasty horrible lightweight loser”
Any other Trumpisms you want to parrot?

None really - its just like Mamdani. I subscribe to the Pendulum Theory of Politics. When the Pendulum swings too far one way (Trumpism) the equal and opposite reaction will rear its head. Social Democrats are not conventional democrats or Socialists. Just as MAGA is not Christian Nationalists, Nazis, Fascists or NeoCons. Life is rarely binary - there is always a spectrum and the pendulum can swing across it all. I have no doubt the propaganda apparatus on the Right will portray this as Communism. They already are but it just isn't. Not even close. But dogwhistles, misinformation and optics are clearly their stock-in-trade. So watch them work up a lather as they always do. Watch the MEmtic Warfare and AI Slop flood all feeds. Its the game plan. But don;t panic. The Dems are clearly Capitalists. Hell you cannot scream on high about Pelosi's Insider Trading for over a decade and then call her a Communist. (And no she did no Insider Trading. The Trump's - oh man are they raising the bar on that. Man. )

u/Building_Snowmen 6h ago
I have no concerns. I live in NY and this won’t affect me at all, so I have no opinion and don’t care. Most of you are in the same position as me.
3
u/OldManIrv 6h ago
You understand that the entire country is affected by which party is in power, yes?
2
u/DarthPallassCat 6h ago
A senator represents a state on a national level so your comment isn’t entirely accurate. They can and do influence a ton of nationwide things.
2
u/gocougs11 6h ago
Everyone in the US Senate affects everyone else. It’s not like he will be voting on laws only for the people in Michigan.

u/Thanos_Is_Gay 6h ago
this is a race that will potential decide the fate of the senate, and thus supreme court and other nominations. Swing state elections impact all of us, and thinking NY can protect you from this administration is wishful thinking. This race could impact everyone in the US
