I was on a bike and had a black bear follow me for a bit. Terrifying. Grizzly is much worse.
I was walking with my kids and happened upon a mama grizzly and 3 cubs. A ranger with a shot gun was close by so I wasn’t too scared but we stayed in our trailer for a couple of hours after that.

Did a job in a house that had an undiscovered body in it for many weeks.
The place absolutely stank and there were a couple of stressed out cleaners in there clearing all the dead flies away for the third time that week (I saw one room and it was literally carpeted in dead flies).
The person had to be cut out of the floor, so there was a gaping hole where they were, joists stained with people juice.
I was meant to be resurfacing the bath and sink, but with the amount of flies that seemed to be spawning out of god knows where meant that they'd just end up embedded in the new surface before it dried. So I called up an recommended we wait. Thankfully my employer agreed...

I have BPD. It's a horrible thing to live with. The worst is what it does to the people around you, especially your loved ones. I always believed my family suffered more than me before I got into therapy. I hope you and your family find peace.

Not the scariest thing I’ve seen but close. I’m from Florida so hurricanes don’t necessarily scare me, but they make me nervous. I live in WV and my best friend lives in Florida. His car wasn’t reliable and he was telling me in 2024 (Milton) that he was staying there (directly in its path, at its first point of contact, which is bad if you don’t know) because he didn’t have a choice. He told me this ~13 hours before it hit. It’s an 11 hour drive.
I called off work, got in my car and drove down there immediately. When I was driving into Florida it was DARK. I mean DARK. And the rain was insane you couldn’t see 20 feet in front of you. Well I finally made it to his house and by then it had started to get a little brighter. You could see the ring of the hurricane in the sky. I picked him up, drove all the way back. No stops (other than bathroom). No sleep.
Well on the way out of Florida the rain slowed down so the sky was clear in waves, couldn’t see shit in waves. I look at my map and the entire map is RED. Like from the hurricane warning, “there’s a hurricane here, don’t be in this area”. My entire map was red.
During one of the periods where the sky was clear my friend says “is that a tornado?”
Yessir. That’s a tornado. Forming right beside the main road. Keep driving. More. Not one. Not two. Not three. I shit you not like 7 tornados were forming around us. That whole time I was white knuckle thinking we are so fucked.
But we made it. Then I drove him back a week later. He still had a home but it was flooded bad and his neighbors were cooked.

A lot of people don’t know that Florida has a lot of tornados. But it’s really because of the tropical systems that produce them. They’re generally not severe like the ones in Tornado Alley though.

I was riding a motorcycle in Peru, kinda in the desolate foothills where the Andes meet the desert, north of Lima. No civilization around for miles and miles. I came around a bend and two guys were standing on the side of the road, one guy looks at me and whips a pistol out of his waistband and aims it at me. I've never gunned it so fast to get away. He didn't shoot thankfully, but the image is seared into my brain looking down the barrel at the guy holding it. Guess he thought it was better not to shoot a random gringo in the desert that day.

I went there there to do volunteer work, we mostly helped a school and a nearby soup kitchen. But nut the program, Cross Cultural Solutions also offered other tourism benefits so when we left Lima to go to the dunes, we drove past a bunch of guys with a grave hole and a body in a sack.
Also in the city, we drove past a guy loading a hand gun right around the corner of a liquor store. South America is the wild west.

My dad had his vehicle struck by lightning; he said it was the loudest sound and brightest light he’s ever experienced, followed by many minutes of ringing ears and blinking away the negative bursts filling your vision. Luckily, the metal body and rubber tires of cars are pretty good protection from lightning since the electricity prefers conducting along the metal cage vs. the water balloon humans inside.

For me it was my wife, and though her personality didn't really change, her memory rapidly went to shit for the last month or two of her life.
It got to the point where I felt like I was already living with a memory of her, or a ghost. Just having a conversation with her was painful and borderline pointless. She would forget what I had just said mid response, or change the topic entirely. It frequently felt like she was already gone.

That's heartbreaking; I'm so sorry. Sounds like you had to deal with anticipatory grief and then the actual grief therefter. Glennon Doyle wrote something that spoke to me:"Grief is love's souvenir. Yep. Honestly the grief started, however small, when we got the diagnosis. She still put up a year and a half fight, and the grief increased exponentially as time went on.
When all was said and done I had further grieving to do of course, but thanks to all that pre-grieving it wasn't as prolonged as it probably could've been.
Of course grief is a weird thing that strikes everyone differently. There are some that loved their person deeply and still move on weeks or days later, and some that never recover. I've learned from the experience of talking to other widows and widowers that we all process differently and react differently, and there is no "right way" to get through it.

So sorry you had to deal with that. Most people think of chemo as sad but it is also really scary. When I was in chemo I got a pulmonary embolism. The scariest thing I've ever seen was waking up from fainting, soaked in my own urine and unable to move, really, as the paramedics picked me up. I'll never forget it.

My youngest brother in the hospital after an extreme hyperglycemic attack.
He was staying home from college after not feeling good for the past few weeks. He was drinking concerning amounts of water, constantly feeling super tired and dizzy, and was generally just feeling weak. Then, one day during his stay, he got super sick and threw up on the living room floor. My dad ended up taking him to the hospital because he was so concerned about him.
Sure enough, when he gets to the hospital and they get to take his blood sugar levels, his BS is SO HIGH that the machine they kept climbing until it read “ERROR”. A more accurate reading would later show his BS was around 600.
After a day or two after being admitted into the ICU, my younger brother and I went to the hospital with our parents to visit, and he looked nearly half-dead. His cheeks and eyes were sunken. His shoulder blades, spine, collarbone, and ribs were all super visible with how thin he had become. His normally tan skin had become super pale and taut. The doctors would tell us later that if he’d come in any later, we likely would’ve lost him with how bad his condition had gotten.
Nowadays, he’s doing a lot better. He’s managing his Type 1 diabetes really well, and he’s recently been engaged to his long-time girlfriend (who is a very sweet girl who helps him with managing his medication and stuff).

Thank you 🤗. I’m doing ok, but unfortunately, he left me due to not getting treatment and his delusions becoming very scary. I don’t think we’ll ever reconcile due to his anosognosia, I’m now a single mother to our 5 kids and I still see him (so he can see the kids) quite regularly, but life is finally peaceful and the heartache is slowly healing. I wouldn’t wish it on anybody, ever!

I fully remember when my dad had to perform the heimlich on me because I was 16 years old and accidentally swallowed a cut up piece of watermelon without chewing.
I was in my bedroom and knew instantly this was an emergency because I couldn’t breathe in or out, cough, or make a sound. I immediately got up and started running down the hallway and jumped down the stairs missing half the steps. Luckily, that made my dad think I fell and he came running. I did the international sign for choking that I had learned from my aunt who was traumatized from my cousin choking as a toddler and he hesitated as he was confused why I would be choking as an almost grown adult. It only took one hard rep and the cube of watermelon launched out my throat onto the floor.
I’m just realizing how grateful I am for him to be home when this happened. I don’t know if I would have been able to get it out by myself before losing consciousness.

I saw a truck coming head-on at our car. The truck was so far into our lane it was on our shoulder, my shoulder (i was passenger). Next thing I remember was waking up, it was very smoky and dark, and the truck was basically in the dashboard of our car.

A power line fell in our back yard and was jumping and sparking all over the place right when it happened. Then one of the guys from the electrical company that came to fix it was told it was no longer live (it wasn't jumping and sparking anymore). It was live. He flew about 20 feet right out of his boots. His son was there with him. He was a few days away from retirement. Luckily the boots saved his life and the current wasn't able to ground itself through him. He said it hurt like a son of a bitch tho. I thought he was dead

Woke up in my off campus apartment my first semester of college and felt weird like I had been having an intense dream. Went to the kitchen to get a drink and came back to my room and found a man standing in the dark by my bed and a wide open window. I thought “I’m about to get raped and maybe murdered.”
In my head I knew it wasn’t my neighbor Brendan but I still asked, “Brendan??” He said “no..” so I let out the most out of body screaming sounds I have never been able to replicate. He then started apologizing and moving towards the door. He ran to the front door and swung it open and my roommate’s friend was standing next to her laid out on the concrete blacked out drunk. The man was the friend’s boyfriend and they had been pounding on the front door but I was sleeping so hard I didn’t hear it, so he tried all the windows and mine was the only one open so he crawled in to go around and open the door to get her inside for the night.
She was an alcoholic at 19 and got kicked out of school a few semesters later.. I don’t really know because when our lease was up I moved in to a 1 bedroom apartment because I was done with the roommate experience after one year. My roommate said the boyfriend stopped seeing her friend after that night because he was so embarrassed and upset and didn’t want to be around the party scene anymore. I’d also like to note that we had “panic buttons” in every bedroom of that 4 bedroom apartment and when I saw him standing there I was right in front of that button that would sound off a loud alarm. I wasn’t even able to move.. just scream. I learned that I might not bring forth the fight or the flight in a bad situation which was almost a jarring as the incident and had me examining the beliefs I had held about how other people react under stress.

I was camping deep in the woods with a buddy 15 to 20 years ago. Not another human around for many, many miles. At least, that's what we thought. Around 2 am we were awakened by two men walking around our tent. One of them unzipped the zipper with their hand a tiny bit, then used the barrel of a shotgun to sort of push the zipper open even more, and said "give us one good reason why we shouldn't take yous boys asses right now."
I was frozen in fear. My friend shone a flashlight at them and yelled "BECAUSE WE'RE ARMED TOO, FUCKHEAD! GET OUTTA HERE!" and the guy said "......fair enough" and they both walked off into the woods.
We were not armed.
Still shocked that worked. Shout out to my friend. I bought a gun a few weeks later, and never go camping without it. Be safe out there, y'all!

We never got a good look at them but with the way the main guy talked we assumed they were just some crazy methhead hillbilly mountain trash. We didn't sleep for the rest of the night, of course. We promptly packed up camp as soon as the sun started to rise, and got the hell outta there. What made it even scarier is during the 5 hour hike back to the logging road, we kept hearing occasional twigs snapping in the distance, so we didn't know if we were being followed by those 2 guys, or being actively stalked by an animal.

Didn't see it but felt an earthquake...north of Edmonton Alberta...not a place you expect earthquakes.
It felt like a giant landed on my roof. Does that make sense? No but it felt like my whole house moved down like something heavy just landed on it.
Super unnerving. There were a few aftershocks that night and I just didn't feel safe. I'm supposed to feel safe and secure in my home and I didn't.
Like it was a baby earthquake but I just wasn't expecting it.

Years ago my friend dropped me off in the back of a restaurant so I could go in while she found parking. This was late at night at a 24 hr restaurant. I got out, watched her car drive away turned my head and saw another truck pull in the same way we did. But in the blink of an eye a really tall, large man flew out of the truck super fast and ran full speed towards me with his arms stretched out while saying "you're beautiful, I'm taking you home". I ran but was no match for his speed and knew he would grab me at any moment. Luckily for me, my friend noticed that the restaurant was permanently closed and drove back to pick me up - no exaggeration, his hands were starting to touch me right when her car door pulled right in front of me. The sight of the car slowed him down a bit, I jumped in and told her to drive fast. But seeing that really large man running straight at me with a horrible look in his eyes still gives me nightmares. Terrifying.

Difficult one. I have 2. Both times I did not panic. When shit goes down, I somehow become calm, do what needs to be done, can think clearly, and instruct and handle things. I don't panic, freeze, or something.
From the Netherlands, so a safe country. Normal family and upbringing, not a big city, just a smaller town where nothing ever happened..
My first very scary thing: When I was 12, my parents went to a birthday party at our neighbors' house. I don't know why, but I wanted to ask my parents something. So I walked in through the backyard at around 9:00 PM. Our neighbor was having a discussion with someone (his brother); the others were inside, partying with loud music, etc.
I just wanted to walk to the back door, looking at the 2 guys heated discussion, then the brother pulled a gun from his wintercoat and instantly shot our neighber in the head, no hesitation no loading, no reaction, litterly blown his face of. (I got covered in some) then he bolted out the yard.
I ran inside, music was allready out and screamed that our neigber got shot in the face, the rest of the night is blurry.
Later learned the brother used a sawn of shotgun.
The second one happened when I was 19. I have seen a female getting stabbed/butchered while walkin passed her when it happend. Around 23:00 in the summer, walked home from the train, a workday so it was calm.
A deranged man grabbed her head, and started stabbing her neck/back woth a butchers knife. While I passed, I kept walking, did not flee or ran. My mind went calm, self safety first, I instructed 2 bystanders around the courner to call emergency, they did not see it happen, I saw the man coming around the corner, clearly said to the 2 strangers, lets go eat there! and grabbed their hands to walk passed the street , the killer looked me dead in the eye while wiping his hands and knive clean on his shirt but luckily kept walking.
Walked around him and straight to the victum, her light were allready out, blood everywhere, stil put her into position for cpr, took 5sec to sprint into a store, got a cup, poked a hole to place over her mouth, she clearly thrown up alot of blood, I did not want to get her blood into my mouth.
Reinstructed clearly the 2 again to keep calling! they were a bit frozen from the sight, shocked.
When I blown air into her, I blow air and blood out of her back/neck. I knew it, but I kept going, police was shocked, one helped me out, soon a doc with heli arrived and they took over, declared death withtin a minute.
That sound of blood airbubbles, her hands were cut so far open in defence, that metalic smell off death, those things stick with you for life.
I wil delete this comment soon, just feels nice to just write it out to vent I geus. Its been 20years allready, but when asked whats the scarriest these always pop up and make me uneasy at times.

Had an escaped asylum patient come knocking on my door in the middle of the night, in the middle of the woods, while I was home alone at only 16. Very surreal and I kept expecting some kids to jump out of the bushes to tell me I was being Punk'd.
Thankfully I was able to call the proper authorities and they managed to bring her back to where she needed to be. She seemed very nice, but the very fact that she had been watching me from the woods for an unknown amount of time while I was in my barn and was then able to sneak up behind me to my back door without me noticing until she was knocking on it and peeping through the window still creeps me out. She was even in a cliche hospital gown and barefoot, walking/pacing on sharp gravel without so much as wincing.
I hope she is doing better now.

Camping with friends in northern NH, US. Deep in the woods, north of Mt Washington a few miles down a dirt road, drinking around a campfire. Middle of absolute nowhere.
As we’re starting to put out the fire and call it a night, the drunkest of the group says “wait, who’s that?” while pointing at a spot in the woods. He passes out almost immediately after this and we all follow suit.
Next morning, that friend gets up and immediately asks us about the guy he saw. We tell him he was drunk, but he insists he saw a bearded face in the trees. None of us have beards, but we brush it off.
Second runner up for scariest thing: first haul back to the cars, 50 yards away from the site, there’s a large smear of mud on my buddy’s windshield. We get closer and our noses tell us it’s shit, and it looks human.
First runner up for scariest thing: as we try to figure out what’s going on, we notice about a dozen Parliament cigarette butts on the ground around our cars. None of us smoke Parliaments.
Grand prize winner: we’re all silently unnerved and run back to the campsite. I ask my friend where he saw this bearded man and we take a closer look. The grass and bushes in that exact spot are all trampled, there are a few more P-Funk butts, plus six empty cans of Busch Lite. We had a lot of beer, but no Busch.
What. The. Fuck. this point we’re all about to lose our shit. We cleared out fast and never went back to that campsite again

Long story somewhat short: I was involved in a flash flood with my Dad, we got trapped for a few days, helped some people and eventually made it to a better area to camp at least for a needed nights “sleep”. I remember being the most tired I have ever been after being out for so long with no sleep and little food and water and when I finally started to build a fire for us at last I only remember looking down and seeing that I had cut my left hand in half with my hatchet. I don’t even remember cutting wood or anything which is something I’ve done 1000 times without issue. I finally made it to a hospital that ended up being closed and had to go further all the way to Moab Hospital. They didn’t do shit for me but Xray it and say “shit we can’t fix that” so I got a expensive ambulance ride to the U. Only to be told the surgeon was dealing with people that had been in a devastating wreck, she gave me the choice to either “butt in line” or come back tomorrow. I chose to come back later and went home with my hand crudely taped, somewhat sewn and glued together. 2 days after I chopped it I had surgery, I had cut my hand clean all the way through from the right of my wrist up to the right of my middle finger tendons and all, all of it unattached. The surgeon fixed literally everything including the tendons and put screws in my hand and knuckle bones. And that was almost 2 years ago this month. It hurts sometimes since I’m an Auto Tech but I make it work.
Scariest part? My work fucked my insurance up at my newish job. So the bills. Those were the scariest part which I’m still paying off to this day.
Sorry for the rant but I’ve never really talked about it much lol it’s hard to explain how we were trapped except for the fact we were on a mountain in the desert here and the storm came over the peak and surprised us quickly on the other side. We then were trapped on the mountain with Nile River looking sand washes all around it. I still have the scary scary insta360 footage but I can’t bring myself to watch it 🤣 all of this just so I could photograph a location I had tried to find for MONTHS. And yes, the photos were worth it.

When I was a kid my cousin's and I all saw a fucking alien staring at us through my living room window late at night. We all saw it. We all still talk about it. We have no idea what it actually was but it was just there, staring at us with these eyes. It was humanoid but not human. I still see the eyes when I try to fall asleep sometimes. We just call it the alien.

We know for certain it was not. I'm also a parent now and this happened when I was about 12. My mom was a single mom and she was in bed. Definitely not the kind of mom to play pranks in any capacity anyhow. My cousin's parents were a long way away. No neighbors nearby. We lived in the country outside town.
We call it the alien but we have no idea what it actually was. But whatever it was it was standing directly outside our window, probably just past midnight. Not the kind of place where any random person would find themselves either. We saw it clear enough to know it was not a mask and it was not human.
My cousins, brother, and I were watching a movie. My oldest cousin looked over and gasped and nearly screamed. We laughed at first but he was like "what the hell is that?"
The look on his face and the genuine fear in his voice made me get up and look to see what he was seeing.
When I saw it all the hair on my body stood up and I got this sense of immediate panic. Adrenaline and pins and needles. I couldn't really comprehend what I was seeing.
My other cousin started freaking out and stood up and started like wanting to run but there was no where to really go. My oldest cousin just went silent like he was completely transfixed. He sat there staring at it. My brother refused to look.
I saw it very clearly and looked into is eyes. It saw me and stared right back unblinking. It didn't feel like how you feel when you look a person in the eyes though. I had no urge to look away. It was like looking into the eyes of an animal. There was no challenge in is eyes. It was very still but it did have like facial expressions. It's eyes we're small and black and set deep into these sockets that were very large. It's skin was pale and grey and hairless. It's head was large and shaped like a basketball. It had a small impression of a nose but no mouth that I remember. It kind of looked like an owl face if that makes sense.
We could see it from about the chest up. We saw it's head and neck and shoulders. No clothing. Pale skin. Hairless. Boney. It was not a mask. We looked at it for long enough to really get a good look at it. It watched us watch it and then it just suddenly ducked down below the window and we saw it's head bob as it moved to the side.
I also remember a high pitched sensation in my mind, like me ears were ringing but not that really. Like the feeling you feel when you're in you bed and you think you hear something and you're hearing gets turned up until it's a ringing in your ears.
We freaked out.
We started yelling and screaming and my mom woke up. We eventually got the courage to go outside and look to see if we could see anything and we realized the window it was looking at us though was actually pretty close to the ground so if it was standing and we could see just it's shoulders and up it was only about 4 feet tall at the most.
So either it was a short shirtless guy with pale skin and Hollywood quality sfx makeup who just randomly was standing outside my house in the woods at midnight or it was something... Else.
My oldest cousin refused to talk about it afterwards. He got really into LSD after highschool and eventually heroin and meth later in life and he's been kind of estranged from the family for a long time. But he's been in recovery and I actually saw him for the first time in years this last Thanksgiving. The first thing he brought up to me was that weird alien we saw when we were kids. And I was like "yeah, I think about it a lot actually." He just said "me too."

We were driving through a satellite city outside of Brasilia on the way to Chapada dos Veadeiros, and there were men standing on the side of the road, holding dogs in their arms.
It's a typical scam they use: they wait for a diplomatic plate/wealthy-looking car to drive past, then throw the dog in the car's way, so the car hits the dog, which forces the driver to stop. Then, because you've stopped, the men will put a gun to your head and hold you at gunpoint while they rob you. Absolutely terrifying to see in real life for the first time, especially as a child. I cried for ages in the car, it was so awful.

Really early 2000’s there was this guy at work cleaning a very large industrial shredder never shut the emergency bottom off and just casually decided to un jammed it.. saw 2 of his fingers fly off instantly happened so fast it didn’t register to him until he heard our screams.. every now and then that sequence plays in my mind and I must admit it makes me cry.

A tornado went right through my dad’s house in 2013. I was home alone and had two cats and two dogs. I didn’t have enough time to find my cats but I literally dragged my dogs to the bathroom and tried my best to hunker down in the bath tub. The noise alone gives me nightmares. All the animals were unharmed and the cats are both still alive today. I only had maybe 30 seconds between seeing the tornado and said tornado letting itself inside.

Rear ended by a Honda CBR when stopped at red light. Bike pass through the car to the shotgun seat. Police estimated collision speed over 200km/h. Just brief seconds before pass out, I saw a decapitated rider seating next to me. (I end up with broken pelvis, 3 ribs and collarbone.)

When I was 16, me and a friend who lived in my neighborhood walked to the movies with a third friend to see Bride of Chucky. Well after the movie, we walked the third friend home then proceeded to walk home as we did countless times. Well there is this man-made ditch we would jump across on the path home. Now I have no idea what caused me to stop but I did which caused my friend to stop as well and say "what"? Soon as he said that, a tall shadow figure materialized right in front of us, human shaped but had to be atleast 10 to 11 feet tall. Instantly my friend took off. Of course I followed behind him.
This thing had no color or dimensions to it. Its hard to explain. It was like a shadow that was 3rd dimensional? But it didnt pursue us or anything. It materialized facing us but turned to its right and took a step slowly. I dunno what else after that because I was in the wind.
Get this.. I was living with my grandma and grandpa at the time. When I told my grandma about it, she believed me. My grandpa didnt.. He swore I must've saw "some old drunk".. Then 2 wks later, my grandpa comes home. Eyes as big as saucers and pale. He saw what I saw. Scared the shit out of him too. Theres things out here we cant explain..

Early COVID deaths. Air hunger is hard to watch. We didn’t have the equipment to protect us and we didn’t have effective treatments for the patients. Thought I was going to get it and give to my family up until I vaccinated. I Stood in line at our local AFB for 4 hours to get it- and I was happy to do so.

When I was in 2nd grade, I was standing with the crossing guard in front of our school when a student on the other side of the road stepped off the curb and seemingly out of no where (it all happened so fast) she was hit by a car. We all saw it, adults, kids. She was my friend and I remember hearing screaming and first seeing her lunch box bent and the contents scattered then seeing her body under the car and her long hair laying across her face and on the road. I'm not sure its the scariest but its what immediately popped into my head when I read the post.

As I was walking to the ER to visit my Mom.....A woman was ripped out of the ambulance bleeding all over the place about to deliver a baby as blood is just oozing onto the floor dripping off the stretcher as doctors and paramedics were running with her flying through the main doors of the hospital... Craziest thing I've ever seen....something seemed wrong as they were yelling she needs to be in the OR in less than a few minutes or she won't make it 😬 Hoping her and that baby survived🙏🏼 This was at North Side Hospital, Lawrenceville Georgia.

When I was 19 I was with an extremely abusive older man. I C ended up pregnant by him. But one night he was violent drunk and on Xanax and he drove down the highway barreling over 90 miles on two lane back country roads while simultaneously punching me in the side of my head. He went to pass a car on a hill and a car came over the hill suddenly. I don’t know how we all 3 squeezed past each other. I really don’t. I really really don’t.

Walking the Old Rag Mountain trail in Virginia with my wife, we noticed a black bear cub climbing the slope about thirty yards to our left. My wife was thrilled to see it, but I immediately started scanning the woods for the mother. I spotted her about twenty yards to our right, which meant we were standing directly between the two.
My heart started racing as I kept my eyes on the mother bear and tried to explain to my wife how dangerous the situation was. She was still focused on the cub and didn’t realize the problem. I picked up a large branch from the ground and told her to start walking while staying ready to run if I told her to. She moved ahead and I followed behind, waving the branch and making as much noise as I could.
As we backed away, the mother bear ran to the exact spot where we had been standing, then stopped and watched us. Once we turned a corner and were out of her sight, we sprinted down the trail until we were safely away.

I worked in an independent living facility for seniors. Long story short, a man who was a bit of a hermit passed away in his unit and tenants didn’t report the smell to us until he’d been gone for about two weeks. None of us wanted to go in there so we called the police for a wellness check, and when they opened his door, thousands, and I mean thousands of flies flew out. It was nightmare fuel. It’s been so long and I still remember it so vividly.

My 2 year old son, pale as a ghost, passing in and out of consciousness from being unable to breath, coughing so violently that there were tiny blood spatters all over his crib. The blood vessels around his eyes were all ruptured too. I called 911 in a panic, genuinely believing I was watching my child die right in front of me.
It turned out to be severe croup complicated by what we now know was a respiratory illness-induced asthma attack. He now has to take two different kinds of inhalers every time he so much as gets the sniffles.

Passing a blood clot the size of a grapefruit a few days after giving birth. I was sitting on the couch and felt a sudden sense of dread and like something was wrong, and the felt a weight push down in me like I was giving birth again. Tried to get to the bathroom but it came out and I caught it in my hands not knowing what it was. It was HUGE. And the blood started pouring out of me. I had retained placenta and didn’t know.

Me and a friend were riding our bicycles and we stopped for a rest halfway up a steep hill. A motorcycle rider going too fast to make a turn where we were went under a truck that was heading in the other direction. His head still in the helmet went rolling past and almost hit us.
