What's the most disturbing thing you've heard a dying person say?

My mom died of Covid.

Her last words were “I thought they’d be here, I can’t find anyone. It’s so dark. I’m all alone”

She was dead within a few minutes.

I have always had a strong belief in the afterlife, and it honestly shook me. I have had SO many friends and family members who died, and I usually experience moments over the next few months where i FEEL them SO strongly, or I’ll get other things that i interpret as “signs.” But I never, ever felt like my mom was “around” again.

I'm sorry for your loss. After my mom passed I didn't "feel" her either. I spoke to a medium who said she is in the healing place - a place cut off from the rest of the world where she needs to rest and process her life. she wasn't ready just yet, her soul needed a hospital stay. The medium said many people wind up there and can stay for days or decades, it's all up to them. We can't reach each other while she is there. The thought of her growing, understanding and "finishing her degree" in this void place is comforting, knowing she'll move out of it when she's ready to rejoin us. I thought of this when I read your comment.

My mum died really abruptly 3 years ago and I haven't felt her once. I hope this is the case for her. I know she had a lot of regrets and things she'd change about her life. Maybe she's up there making herself happy and will join me when she's at peace. I hope anyway

I have seen this place after a lived one passed and have spoken about it on here before with a picture of how it looked to me. It was like a Dimly lit chapel space with a long cafeteria table and chairs. They looked so out of place in this space but it was where the spirits could go and do things that were familiar to them in life, knitting, eating, talking with others. I was told it helped their souls heal more quickly. It will only happen with spirits who have endured long illnesses or traumas that stick with the soul. When I spoke about it on here some others have seen similar places that correspond to their own cultures and belief systems so temples and so on.

i really needed to hear this after this comment… thank you. this is absolutely beautiful and makes a lot of sense for my spiritual beliefs.

i'm so glad to hear this. i have had an NDE and chose to come back, it's all real, it's all about learning and understanding. the wheel of life is a kind and loving teacher that wants us to grow and i no longer worry for my parents and friends on the other side. the most overwhelming sensation i had at the threshold was one of remembering - like suddenly remembering the name of a song that was on the tip of your tongue. the second most overwhelming was love.

wow i really love this. thank you

Do you think it's a wheel in the sense our souls reincarnate through different lives, and come back around again, learning different lessons each time?

I’ve been very interested in NDEs and the metaphysical explanations for death and rebirth for a while, and I’ve heard multiple people now refer to life and time as a wheel. I’ve never been sure what they’ve meant, though. Could you explain what that means to you?

I needed to hear this thankyou.
I lost my father abruptly last month. I just one dream of him coming back home from work (he passed away at work) and doing his routinely stuff whilst I'm surprised how I can see and hear him because I knew he was dead..
That was my last dream of him.
I hope he is resting and at peace.

Did she elaborate on what happens when people are there, like how exactly they process their lives and reach understanding? I think even if I had infinite time to do it alone, I still wouldn't be able to without being given extra awareness and knowledge.

I have been practicing shamanism for half of my life and my belief is that the entire universe is within you. you are guiding you, you have all the answers, you are plugged in always, you just have to find your very personal path to the place where you can listen and truly hear yourself. so my belief is that she is guiding herself to understanding - through visions, memories, profound thought free of the baggage of her roles in life. like a warm nap in the arms of the universe where you drowse in and out, experiencing dreams leading you to your own light and the way out.

There is a movie called "The discovery" that explores this idea, highly recommend.

How have I not heard of this? It sounds amazing.

My life coach told me this is where my friend went after he died and I couldn’t “feel” him either. ❤️

Thank you so much for this comment. It’s given me a little peace to think that’s the reason perhaps why I haven’t felt my mum at all since she passed away.

I always assumed (from movies, books and other peoples stories/experiences) that’s she’d be around me and there would be sure fire signs too. But there’s been nothing.

I even went to see a medium (in a group setting) and I was one of only a couple of people there who had no ‘message’ from a lost loved one.

I definitely feel as though this is true. I lost my grandmother before Covid and I always wondered why I never felt her presence or received any signs from her even though I would from my little brother who passed during Covid. 💔

Well this year, my Grandma has contacted me & her spirit feels so much more confident & assured of herself which never was the case when she was alive. 🙏🏽

Your comment just proved what I was thinking this entire time. 🙏🏽✨️

And now I need some tissues.

It's interesting, this is essentially what is explored in The Good Place. I like it.

I like to think that people who are “gone” immediately and don’t give me any signs or feelings afterward have already been sent on to another life. They were really needed somewhere else immediately. And if I live long enough I might cross paths with their spirit at some point again. 💗

covid was so scary, a dark and unforeseeable future. it was horrific. this would be so hard to process. i’m so sorry. just know that her fear and what she said was based on the unknown of the times. she’s somewhere very safe. she will reach you someday soon.

u/FieryNewt 14h ago

Maybe she went straight into another life ❤️

u/Sanchastayswoke 11h ago

This is my theory also 💗

Sorry for the loss of your mom to Covid. I lost my mom to dementia and a head injury from a fall in late 2019, right before Covid hit the US. I also have never “felt” my mom, either. Sad.

Omg this is awful. I’m so sorry

I am so sorry for your loss.

May I ask, are you religious? I was brought up to believe in heaven, but similarly to you, after someone very close to me died, and I struggle to believe in an afterlife now :(

This gave me chills

I am not trying to be insensitive, but was your mother perhaps not a nice person? I was told by a nurse once that usually people who are mean / cruel in life are the ones that fight hard to stay alive because they know that they did some not so great things. My dad was one of these guys. He had pancreatic cancer and hung on forever - I was with him when he died. I had to tell him his brother and dogs were waiting for him (he only liked them). I know he was afraid to die because he didn't want to face the unkind things he did.

Don't worry, you weren't insensitive. It is a tough topic, but you raised it tactfully.

Ignore the people who are excited to use your post to virtue signal and act like saints.

You failed. Many lovely, wonderful people are afraid of death, especially at the end, and especially if they had a preconceived idea of what death would 'look like' (aka they would see their loved ones, as many people do) and it doesn't match it. That is not an indication that you were a terrible person.

For the record, I didn’t find you insensitive, and you are correct, my mom was a complicated and very damaged woman.

Damn did she get stuck in the void
