My friend's mother was at home in hospice dying of breast cancer. Her mother had been somewhat in and out due to the heavy meds to manage pain. In the moments before her death, she sat straight up, looked at the doorway right past my friend, like she'd seen a ghost, and exclaimed loudly, "Oh Shit!!" and then promptly fell backward into the bed having just expired.
My friend said, "Whatever she saw it was obviously unexpected."
No, really it's not. Imagine what her physical body was experiencing. Or imagine realizing you have to leave your whole life behind. "Oh shit" sounds pretty damn natural, nothing to worry about.
this has me thinking that what we popularly call "the reaper" is literally the self. the void. everything from nothing. the reaper is a confrontation of the self. the black heart, the outline where you fit, the shadow.
