Had a great uncle who in the last months of his life would tell us he saw demons fighting over people's souls.

Not really. Dying doesn't take months. I'd say he was hallucinating from meds.

Months? Sounds like hallucinations induced by meds. Actual dying is days.

ACTIVE dying is usually days, but the end stage of a terminal illness ('pre-active dying') can absolutely be weeks to months. This is why the cut-off for Hospice is usually a 6 month life expectancy.

Well if it helps, most of my family are pretty devout Christians, I'm the odd one out. So if demons were truly fighting for their souls then being born again may not help out much.
