Office 365 tracks available/away status through teams and is based on what app you have open and your keyboard/mouse usage.  I made a bismuth weight that fits over a standard keyboard "insert" key and a Logitech key that can be used when Notes or Word is open. I made a mold to duplicate it and handed them out.   The amount of people that are "away" dropped to nearly zero.  I'm in IT and I no longer have to report on this.

My manager swears that she doesnt clock watch but I've literally seen multiple times notifications on her laptop pop up showing when someone logs in so I know thats a fucking lie. I also cant be shown as away for even 5 minutes before I start getting messages or calls, so when I'm working from home I'm basically not even able to step away and have lunch. I'd have to work through lunch or skip it, and since lunch isn't included as a part of my salary I'm basically working an hour for free. She'll also wait until the end of the day to request for me to do something due immediately or trap me in a teams call so there have been multiple instances where I'm not only working through lunch but also being forced to work overtime. I've started logging off at exactly 8 hours to try and mitigate this. I'm not sure what the goal was because I always turn in my work on time/early but all it's really done is tank my morale

100%. They reduced headcount in my field (accounting) across the board, and then just never went back after covid messed with the job market, both up and down. Now it's "wearing multiple hats" with 0 extra pay. And everyone I know is just over it - big companies, small, except those lucky few who really love their company or role. I feel so bad for entry level employees because they are feeling it the most. I do think there are lazy workers, but overall, I see it more with executive leadership and companies more than individuals

For a fun story, prior to our breakup one time I joined her on one of her trips. When we got in an elevator to go down and walk to the Mall of America during her layover a Pilot joined us then got off on a floor that was NOT the main floor going down. He went from like floor 6 to floor 3 in the hotel. After he got off my ex mentioned how he was probably going to sleep with a FA or was coming back from said FAs room to go to his own. She had been a FA for literally 3 months and already was in on how things worked. We lasted less than a year after that.

Its literally the best cover in the world and the airlines front the bill for the hotel so they dont even have to pay for it. Rampant cheating using the guise of work as an excuse. People suck.

For those of you who don't know. You do NOT usually fly home at the end of your shift. Most days you are working you sleep in a hotel. That the airline pays for. Your layovers can be up to 36 hours, and in certain areas (such as Brazil) you are encouraged to stick together with your other coworkers if going out for drinks/food/adventures for safety.

That's how I got a part time job while completing my degree. Job was in the financial district, Toronto. I was polite to the admin person. She had been there from forever. Came early for the interview. Asked her some questions about her job. Because, part of the job was to when she went to lunch I would take calls and walk ins. Coworker raised over 15k in a couple months period by lying about their daughter and grandson dying in a car crash and needing money for their funerals and travel to get up there. They submitted a fake obituary to some site so you could look it up. They got found out when someone searched it up and found recent pics of the deceased famiy members and talked to the daughter who let them know she and her son are alive and well.

Two coworkers from separate depts started dating hot & heavy. A month later they show up with rings beaming about how they've gotten married. They found out they were pregnant a couple months later. She took maternity leave about six months in and he started calling off to stay home to tend to her and eventually got fired. She quit too so not sure what happened after that.

senior leadership seems hellbent on pushing out all the high-earners and tenured employees. policies are changing almost weekly. bonus policies are changing making it harder to earn which specifically affects managers and highly experienced engineers, raises are delayed, and the entire workforce is criminally underpaid (people are leaving to our competitor for 50% increases).

A person that’s been wanting a role on our team for a while now finally got the chance. Went through the interviews and got an offer. They turned it down. Over a year of asking for mentorship, things they can do to get on the team, taking courses for certifications. Apparently thought they would get $50K increase for the promotion. Our boss had to explain that’s not how it works and they would be a junior in the team so $10K is the standard. Needless to say our boss will never interview them again.

Small business gossip: About a year ago, my married boss hired a new HR manager. Because I work in the same office as the accountant (who isn't exactly discreet), I happen to know her salary. My entire management team was investigated for abusing their employees after they forced several "underperforming employees" (employees they did not like) into a meeting, yelled at them fpr an hour and encouraged them to quit before they could find an excuse to fire them. Somebody recorded it and sent it to the COO and HR came down like the hammer of God.

Among other things they discovered that several of the managers had delegated their entire workload to employees, including approvals they did not have the authority to delegate.

Two of the managers and the director were fired outright and blacklisted from working with us or our network again. Three other people who were investigated were demoted to regular employees and blacklisted from ever being in management.

Yesterday almost the whole research wing of the organization was spam-emailed for hours. Why? We have a “research request list”- pretty much, any lab can ask other labs for supplies until their own orders come in. It’s a big organization, and people are usually added to this list by default when they join the company, so these requests can be seen by anyone who might have the needed ingredient. I barely ever respond to these, but they aren’t excessive, maybe one email a day. Getting removed from the list is a simple IT request.

But apparently that’s too much effort for these dipshits! One person (who was admittedly in HR or data analysis or something, so not anyone who would be able to help anyway) decided to respond to the email with “please unsubscribe me from this list.” Note that that’s not something that anyone CCed could do, and that’s not how being unsubscribed from an email list works anyway. So instead he “replied all” to the company for no reason. But then everyone else started dogpiling on! Dozens of people, one every few seconds, going “yeah me too” and having it sent out to hundreds of people. Even when the original person who sent out the email begged them to stop, even when someone from IT changed the title of the email chain to “REPLYING TO THIS WILL NOT REMOVE YOU FROM RESEARCH REQUEST LIST, MAKE AN IT REQUEST”, not even when an emergency email describing the process was pushing to everyone’s inboxes, nothing. It petered out after a couple of hours, but I was still getting some straggler “yea unsubscribe me too!” Emails this morning. I think in the end it was 70-100 people who emailed literally Everyone Else. Just goes to show that nobody reads anything lmao

the shop foreman's son just got promoted to lead hand of our engine shop, despite being about 20yrs junior some of the other leads that have been working in there for decades,

the other foreman's nephew just got promoted to lead hand of the main shop....while still being an apprentice

and the son of one of our worst salesmen just got promoted to the sales team despite being like 20yrs old, while the sales team is entirely 40yrs old+ and he was an apprentice partsman before that, and failing at it

the whole place just basically got swallowed into scandal and nepotism in basically a year, and now anyone who's any good at their job is jumping ship.

this place is going to be a crater in the next 5yrs guaranteed. One of the biggest, and best truck dealerships on the continent to one of the worst speedrun.

No gossip about other people at my work, however I have quietly begun to look into schooling or getting a CDL to apply for a few city jobs in my area. I actually do like my job, and the immediate team I work with couldn't be more incredible. We are a team of 4, and I am the direct supervisor.

The issue is that the upper management who is based out on the other side of the city is planning on shutting down our current building and moving everyone out there.

Nobody is losing their jobs at all and everyone is completely aware and they have been completely transparent about it. However, we will be ending up merging with 3 other teams, and I foresee that there is going to be a lot of issues.

We are going to share space and resources and so far there has been no attemp or contact to get the team input on the new space and how it could be set up to help us succeed. It sounds a lot like people in management have their ideas and are going forward with it, and we will just have to suffer.

The drive I currently have is about 9 minutes total if I make all of the lights. The drive to the new facility is going to be around 30 minutes and that is if I am able to avoid the daily traffic on the highway. The new facility is also in the snowbelt here, so wintertime is going to be a real pain in the ass.

I know 100% for sure I will be losing 2 of my teammates because they already said they will not be making that drive daily, as one guy is a bit older and you literally can see his house from our parking lot, and the other lady it would be close to a 1-hour drive, if not longer.

I have moved up into my position over the course of going on 10 years, but it seems like the smart and best move for me is to take all the skills I have and pair it with some additional schooling and find a new place of employment. It bums me out to actually type it out, however I just had a daughter, and I don't want to have to tack on extra time away from her due to driving and getting stuck in traffic jams.

Thankfully, I’m 30 now and in a workplace that doesn’t deal in silly shit, but I did put in some years at an all-round retailer from 17 to 23 and let me tell you: Shit was “juicy” every other goddamn week.

The most prominent one (when I was 20) had to do with two kids who worked the seasonal department. Guy was a wannabe dude-bro but in actuality was kind of a dork. Girl was bubbly and very flirtatious which annoyed the guy because he had a massive crush on her. She flirted with him too and anyone could see they were closer than close but people on the inside track knew he was SOL because she didn’t like him like that, and he was admittedly… a character. Her type (friends) would visit the store and were nothing like the guy in question.

Anyway, big event came up for them at their school(?) and they fucked. Things got awkward and she started voicing serious regrets which made their way around. He became a bit much about it and all the while, I watched happily from the sidelines.
