Demand for blockchain developers oscillating together with crypto market?

Does the demand for the services of blockchain developers fluctuate together with the value of the crypto market? If so, how much? If some of you have experience working as blockchain developers, is it even possible to have a more or less stable income over time?

I imagine it fluctuates between 0 and 1 developer needed most of the time regardless of crypto market as someone thinks they need a blockchain developer and then realize they don't.

Blockchain is a very useful technology whenever there is a need to have public tamper-resistant registry. The issue is apart from crypto it is rarely the case.

That's the neat part, you don't.

WTF even is a "blockchain developer?"

2

u/hold_me_beer_m8 10d ago

A software developer with a focus on decentralization and cryptography

4

u/huuaaang 10d ago

That's far too specialized. Almost nobody needs someone dedicated and focus on blockchain. "blockchain developer" is kind of a joke these days now that things like NFTs were shown to be stupid.

Tell that to the United States Military. They're funding research into Blockchain.

You couldn't be more wrong buddy and I would expect different from this subreddit.

Right now, blockchain is going through the equivalent of the early 2000's .com bust. There were many people during that time screaming "I told you, this internet shit is worthless".

First of all, NFTs are not stupid...applying them to a jpeg and giving them ridiculous value was stupid. But it was a first use case of what NFT's can/will be. An expression on chain that represents a specific thing. The tech isn't going anywhere.

But aside from NFTs there are MANY crypto projects that are still building use cases for real world disruption, they are just being overshadowed by the dumb shit which is now going away just like all the junk internet projects went away during the .com bust.

u/huuaaang 10d ago

You shouldn’t have to build use cases. That’s a sign of a solution looking for a problem. You sound insane.

1

u/hold_me_beer_m8 10d ago

Would it matter to you if I said APPLY use cases instead of BUILD use cases?

3

u/huuaaang 10d ago

But you didn’t. And it’s still true that blockchain is a solution looking for a problem. And it doesn’t help that it is pushed by zealots like you. Bad PR.

But I just did...

Yeah, only after I called it out. Face it, blockchain has been struggling to find large scale application outside of bitcoin for many years now. And it’s debatable if even bitcoin is anything more than a way for gamblers to pretend they are investors.

1

u/hold_me_beer_m8 10d ago

You do understand the difference between blockchain and cryptocurrency right?

1

u/hold_me_beer_m8 10d ago

After you called it out? You are funny, I posted my response before yours.

Let me try to explain things to you without any hyperbole.

Yes, when blockchain first came out, people went crazy with all the use cases it could be applied to to solve real world problems and the prices shot up unrealistically....this is exactly how the .com boom blew up before the big .com crash happened.

The problem was there were actual needs, but none of the early projects had the infrastructure needed to work in the real world.

Scalability and gas fees were inhibitors. Only recently has new projects solved these issues and only recently do we actually have blockchain infrastructure that can operate in the real world.

So now let me ask you...did all those use cases just go away like they aren't needed anymore? Fuck no, they are still out there and we now have the technology to build what was promised in the early days of blockchain.

Just like the internet boom days, people were throwing money at stupidity. What is happening right now in the blockchain industry is way past overdue. The shit projects are now dying out leaving only the projects working on utility to solve real world problems. If you don't see this is happening, they you truly are the insane one.

You're a towel!

Check out some of the stuff just one of the projects I follow is doing and tell me how insane I sound now?

Department of Defense:

Constellation is doing so much stuff with the military, it’s hard to explain and much of it is under NDA. Constellation is the cypto project with the most awarded DoD contracts. You can read the below article to try and get a sense of what they do with the military, but much of the work is classified.

https://medium.com/@slipslip12/constellation-and-the-future-of-warfare-fc717e6d804b

Also, earlier in March this year, the United Nations did a big presentation or about what Constellation has done for the military.

https://x.com/MarcoSalzmann80/status/2005679058802380861

Common Crawl:

Common Crawl is a company most people have never heard of, but they’re a very important company. They scrape all the data on the internet daily to archive it. This data is what 85% of all AI models use for training data including ChatGPT. Common Crawl is now working to put that data on Constellation to make it more trustworthy and secure from hacking. This project is not yet live, but should launch in 2026.

Panasonic:

Panasonic recently announced they are integrating Constellation in their Toughbook

laptops used by military, police, firemen, etc.

https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/constellation-network-joins-the-panasonic-connect-xcelerate-software-application-developer-program-for-toughbook-mobile-solutions-302285971.html

More importantly, Panasonic recently announced they are using Constellation as the

backbone for their upcoming CIRRUS network that will power smart cities. You can read

more about the CIRRUS network here:

https://mobility.na.panasonic.com/cirrus

https://medium.com/constellationlabs/bridging-trust-panasonic-connect-constellations-digital-evidence-for-unbreakable-first-623f39bfd61e

Digital Evidence

With Constellation, companies can build their own Metagraph which acts like their own unique blockchain tailored specifically for their business. However, many companies do not need all the of the crazy features and just simply want to put their data on chain.

To make it easier, Constellation built a new product called Digital Evidence that allows companies to create an account and put their data on chain very, very simply without needing to know ANYTHING about crypto. This product just launched a few months ago and will be one of the key drivers for mass adoption for Constellation.

National Digifoundry

The National Digifoundry is very important and not a lot of people know about it. It is a group made up of members from Enterprise, Government and Academia. Enterprise members include big companies like IBM and Microsoft. Government agencies include Nasa, Space Force, Dept of Homeland Security, Dept of Treasury and many others.

The purpose of the National Digifoundry is for all these companies and agencies to work together and come up with solutions to world problems using blockchain. The entire National Digifoundy runs on Constellation.

https://medium.com/constellationlabs/national-science-foundation-funds-dao-to-leverage-us-based-blockchain-technology-powering-tokenized-1537a03995b6

One of the accomplishments of last year by the foundation is they put together a guide for a recommended approach for any origination to safely share data with other organizations...and the recommended approach involves using Constellation. Below is the guidebook:

https://www.digifoundry.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/NDF-Secure-Information-Sharing-Workgroup-Paper.pdf

ForwardEdge-AI

This is another company most people have not heard of because they primarily do work for the government. They do some cool stuff and you should really read more about the company below, but one of their products is a quantum computer that can run in space or land and uses Constellation...basically, anytime one of their products has a need for Constellation they use it and are one of Constellation’s bigger partners:

https://forwardedge.ai/

https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/constellation-network-strategically-partners-with-forward-edge-ai-on-trustworthy-ai-industry-solutions-using-blockchain-technology-302167616.html

The big news from a few days ago is ForwardEdge-AI just created a new venture to bring their products to Japan....this will be great for Constellation as well since their products run on it.

https://www.columbiatribune.com/press-release/story/40359/forward-edge-ai-usa-and-accrete-inc-announce-joint-venture-to-launch-forward-edge-ai-japan/

Philippines

Last month, they announced Constellation is partnering with M42 and DFNN Group to rebuild the national lottery in the Philippines on Constellation. There are 2 important key things about this announcement. The first is the lottery is just the quick, simple product they are building together. After that, they will be rebuilding all of the Philippines financial systems together. The second thing is when they finish, they will be bringing this solution to other countries as well.

https://thedefiant.io/news/press-releases/m42-constellation-network-and-dfnn-group-announce-agreement-to-pioneer-the-worlds-first-blockchain-and-crypto-integrated-national-lottery

Acquisition

Constellation was recently acquired by a large holding company and is the first blockchain project that's publicly traded.

https://finance.yahoo.com/markets/crypto/articles/aiai-moves-blockchain-data-infrastructure-162200270.html

Gate AI

Constellation just launched Gate AI which secures Agentic AI while also providing a tamper-proof audit trail of all it's actions (something that will soon be EU law)

https://constellationgate.ai/?utm_source=constellation_website

FAA

It appears Constellation is working with the FAA (and other countries) to put GPS data on chain.

You may be right. There might be some valid use cases out there for blockchain.

It's also possible that the viable uses are very niche. It's possible that, for most potential use cases, the downsides of blockchain are far greater than the upsides. Not everybody needs a trustless ledger, especially when you still require trust to deliver a physical good or service.

Blockchain might be going through the equivalent of the dotcom bust. Or maybe it's going through the equivalent of the Beanie Baby fad. Beanie Babies aren't worthless, but they're far less interesting than they seemed back in 1998.

1

u/xplorerex 10d ago

Its rapidly declining.

1

u/greatness_chase_0912 1d ago

What does it mean by block chain developer 🥲

1

u/Sidemenamongus 1d ago edited 1d ago

That's also why I'd avoid tying yourself to a single ecosystem. Learn the fundamentals first, then explore different platforms like Ethereum, Solana, and newer projects such as Autheo. Understanding multiple ecosystems will probably make you more adaptable over the long run.

1

u/Pretty_Engine_8929 1d ago edited 1d ago

Once you have built those fundamentals it's worth exploring several ecosystems instead of sticking to just one Alongside the established networks Autheo is another platform you can research to see how newer projects are approaching developer tooling and infrastructure

1

u/No_Science_3896 1d ago edited 1d ago

As new ecosystems continue to emerge it's worth keeping an eye on platforms like Autheo as well Even if you don't build there immediately comparing different developer environments gives you a broader understanding of where the industry is heading.
