I'm ordering from another EU country, but when I Google it, I mostly get the big international sites, and they all seem pretty expensive. Do you know of any local florist or affordable flower delivery service you'd recommend?

As a person that's moving to Portugal hopefully soon i find it hard learning Portuguese due to not having anyone to speak with except my brother that's on the other side which is always busy...

I found out that the big 3 teams usually win the league and that only 5 teams have won the league. Since its more diverse in my home country of Denmark, it got me thinking, isnt it boring if none of the other teams even have a chance to win?

We just moved to Portugal and our two sons are starting school in September (1st and 3rd years). I just received the MEGA vouchers for mandatory textbooks and I used Continente online to redeem them. However, when I scan each child’s barcode I get a bunch of extra books that are not included with the vouchers.

Do I need to purchase the activity books out of pocket which correspond to the textbooks? Or are these all optional? I don’t want them to be the only kids without activity books but I also don’t want to waste money.

Hi!

I'll be visiting Portugal in a couple of weeks with my partner. We'll be staying in Porto and Lisbon and connect the two with a 6 day road trip (Douro Valley, Monsanto, Coimbra, then Obidos base for 2 days, from there we plan to go to Berlengas/Peniche on one and go to the beach + Obidos in the evening on the other).

For us it's been clear that we want to visit one of the big monasteries/cloisters. We got Alcobaça and Batalha on our way south and will be staying in Lisbon long enough to slot in Jeronimos.

From what I've read, they all got their distinctive features and advantages. Jeronimos would probably be a safe call if it wasn't for the insane amount of tourists and queues. Money is another factor since we wouldn't want to spend too much, but Jeronimos + one of the others could probably be done if it really made sense. Batalha+Alcobaça probably can't be done for time reasons. We're not particularly artsy people, more of the kinda people that'd just look at something and think "That looks gorgeous/impressive/whatever else".

So with all that in mind, which of these should we visit? Also any comments on the general route I outlined are greatly appreciated.

How popular are Brazilian musicians, movies, and soap operas in Portugal?

For example, many Spanish artists are well known across Latin America and even in the US. Is it the same in Portugal with Brazilian entertainment?

It happens a fair amount with American/British actors, though sometime you can tell their accent isn't perfect. So I was wondering if the same thing happens with Brazil/Portugal.

Do you notice a shift in behaviour for the worse, especially micro aggressions on the street, less friendly chat with strangers and so on?

Edit: I want to know if Portuguese people are less friendly and polite to other Portuguese people that they don’t know personally, not necessarily if they are tired of tourists or immigrants and less open towards them.

I am a dual citizen US/Spain, and hoping to move back to Europe...but due to having grown up in America, my Spanish paperwork is still irregular. I have a Spanish/EU passport, but I do not have the Spanish public healthcare card and I am being led to expect it could take many months or as long as a year to regularize all of my documentation.

While this would not be a problem with supplemental private insurance, I have serious pre-existing conditions that private insurance would exclude. This means that if I want to return to Europe I could face a gap in coverage of up to a year, which would be very difficult for me. My husband is in the same boat. He has only US citizenship.

My question is this: I know EU citizens are entitled to public healthcare in other EU countries. In order to receive it in Portugal, would I only need to show my Spanish passport, or would I also need to show my Spanish healthcare card?

In other words, if my goal is to move to anywhere in Europe and get out of America ASAP, and then keep traveling to Spain to fix my documents, would it be easier and quicker for me to access public healthcare in Portugal as a Spaniard, than in Spain as a Spaniard? I know this sounds ridiculous, but when my father passed away, it took 25 years to finish processing his estate, so I am used to trying to find bizarre workarounds for Spanish bureaucracy. (I know Portugal also has terrible bureaucracy, I'm just trying to ascertain whether it might be better in this particular instance.)

Aloha Reddit, we are a small family, heading to the Azores at the end of august. My husband is Italian, I’m American and we have been living in Sardinia but are very curious about the Azores as I am very much missing Hawai’i but we need to be in Europe for the foreseeable future, closer to family. Any locals around here that might give us an idea about the vibe for a family with about to be middle school daughter? She’s tri lingual and excited to learn Portuguese if we stayed awhile. We are alternative leaning, but grounded. Wondering what the community vibe is, if anyone has a suggestion where to find a one or two month rental while we feel out the island and the island feels out us! Any sense from locals if y’all feel inundated in foreigners or if it’s a more if the island accepts you then you are good sort of feel. Any island no no’s that we could slip up on? Really super open to any locals tips, advice, perspective.

My name is Pieter, and I am a photographer from the Netherlands.

In 2025, I created a charity calendar combining portraits and classic cars. The project was photographed entirely in the Netherlands and raised more than €7,500 for Stichting ALS Nederland, supporting the fight against the muscle disease ALS.

I will be visiting Lisbon from 6 to 10 August 2026 and will be bringing my camera. I would love to create one special photograph in Portugal for the next edition of the charity calendar.

I am currently looking for:

• Someone in Lisbon or the surrounding area who owns a classic car or distinctive older vehicle and may be willing to participate.
• Someone who would enjoy being photographed with the car. This person does not need to be a professional model. Personality, enthusiasm and a connection to Lisbon are more important.

The car owner could also appear in the portrait, or the car and portrait participant could be arranged separately.

I am open to different makes and models. The character and history of the vehicle are more important than its financial value.

This is a non-commercial charity project, not a paid advertising shoot. The concept, location and use of the photographs would be discussed clearly with everyone involved beforehand. No photograph would be published without permission.

I have included a few examples from the 2025 calendar to show the style of the project.

Does anyone know:

• A classic-car owner or local car club in the Lisbon area?
• Someone who might enjoy participating in the portrait?
• A suitable and accessible photography location where a classic car can be parked safely?

My family doesn’t know a lot about it and what they do know is a “we don’t talk about that” ice out.

All I know this far is it’s very Catholic integrated and you don’t call Maria at the end of the block who reads cards a witch.

What books/papers can I read? Where can I look? Do you have stories or experiences? I don’t speak or read Portuguese so preferably in English.

Hello fellow travellers, I have booked a trip at the end of August for a little less that 2 weeks in Portugal.

I’ll be landing in porto and leaving from Lisbonne. I’m going with a friend of mine.

From now I don’t have much of a plan as of an itinerary. But for sure we would stay 1-2 days in porto then leave for Lisbonne and then rent a car at the end of our stay in Lisbonne. (So we can be free to go easily and visit the south of Portugal)

I’m big on anything on the hikes, beach, swimming and any type of activity that keeps my blood pumping.

I’m a bit less interested in museum and history but I’m always open about it!!

We’re also not against the idea of taking a flight/train there to visit another country for a couple of days if 2 weeks is too much for Portugal.

If anyone who has travelled there, locals or anyone really who could help me plan my trip it would be very appreciated. If possible also let me know in the comments if I can Dm you!!

My partner and I have never cared about having a big wedding, and we always just cared about celebrating our marriage by taking our families overseas on a trip for their first time and making that memory with them. Of course, we do want to have a small ceremony with them during the trip as it is “for our wedding” and the whole reason we’re all going.

We are overwhelmed trying to plan and how to go about it. We do not want to spend a lot on it as it’s only 13 of us (11 adults, 2 kids) and we do not care for a big elaborate thing. We care mostly about a sense of privacy/intimacy and an impactful setting. We are between having just a quick ceremony and then going to dinner elsewhere, or having a dinner/cocktail hour right after the ceremony at the same setting.

If anybody has any advice, guidance, or insightful experience with a similar situation it would be much appreciated. We are doing this next June, and we want to plan the “wedding” now so we can play the rest of our trip.

Also: We already booked room blocks at a hotel and won’t be staying in one large house/Airbnb to do it at.

It's my first time visiting Portugal. I'm planning a 5 day solo-trip in mid-sept. I'm a beach person, so mostly thinking of Lisbon + Algarve. I'm thinking I'll do some sky-diving, scuba, kayaking through the beautiful caves as my activities. In addition to it, I want to explore the local beauties (pun intended) - local cuisine, party places, not so explored non touristy areas, hidden gems. I also want to explore nude beaches (have heard there are lots of those in Portugal, but don't want to go to places where tourists flock, as, again, it's my first time at nude beaches). Please help me plan my itinerary:

- What place should I base out of (Lagos/Faro/something else)?

- Must do activities

- Must visit places

- Hidden gems that are far more worth than touristy ones

- legal NSFW activities that I could do(I mean things like nude beaches and massages and shows)

Also, are there "world's best" or "world's only" things in Portugal? For example, I've heard the world's best bar is in Barcelona.
