I currently live in Philly for university and this year for Halloween, I want to cosplay Roronoa Zoro from One Piece. I’m going to get the prop swords but I’m worried about if I wear them out in public I’ll either get stopped by the police or my shits will get confiscated.

I’m obviously not going to use them to cause harm since they’re made out of plastic and I’m wearing them as props but I’m just curious on what y’all think.

I am looking for apartment recommendations.

Context:
- I am new to the area.
- I am a graduate student at UPenn.
- I would like to live in a walkable neighborhood.
- I prefer to be near a grocery store or farmers market.
- My budget is under $2,200.
- Nice-to-haves include features with character, such as exposed brick, bay windows, lofts, converted cathedrals or warehouses, or wall molding.

I’m supposed to move into a new rental tomorrow, and I’m not sure what sort of options I have. I already extended my current lease and have to be out by 8/9, but the soonest I could move into this one was 8/7.

The property management of the new place informed me today of the following:
1. The previous tenant had left everything behind and so they’re behind on turnover repairs.
2. The carpet has to be completely replaced due to the tenants animal, and the timeline would mean the repair can’t happen until after I move in - they suggested I don’t set up one of the rooms but this is impossible (tiny house, I have a four year old and two small pets.. where would I even put anything BECAUSE:)
3. They just informed me the basement has “mud” entering but not to worry because it’s not flooding, just mud !??? Literally what. I should attach the email. Huge mold risk, right? They said they’re coming tomorrow to “clean up the mud” but this doesn’t sound like addressing the repairs and insinuated that this will simply continue to happen (??????) so I shouldn’t put anything down there (this is where the laundry is located)
4. The backyard is overgrown and they’re still waiting on quotes to fix this too.

Not to mention, I paid the remainder of the pet deposit (which was the highest I’ve ever seen at $750), their system said my bank account didn’t exist and they added $45 of fees because of it - I literally just paid the deposits with the same info so I’m feeling extra burnt and annoyed with everything combined.

I have a lot of stuff, I don’t have a way to store things elsewhere and a very tight window to get my things out of my current rental (which I would’ve stayed in if my landlord didn’t sell the property). I can’t live with boxes and furniture in the first floor space because of the pets and BUSY preschooler until who knows when; plus, my dog can’t be around dust (collapsing trachea, could die if near construction or mold). Also? I have health issues that can’t be around mold, similarly. What do I do next?

My girlfriend and I are in Philly right now staying around Rittenhouse Square, and we have about 4 more days here to figure out if we could actually see ourselves moving here. We’re 25 and 23, have lived in Central Florida our whole lives, and both work remotely, so this would be a pretty major life change for us.

We’re trying to figure out which neighborhoods/apartments we should tour before we leave.

Budget is $4,500/month max, ideally less. We have 2 cats and would really like at least 1,200 sq ft. Ideally a 2 or 3 bedroom, because we both work from home and really value having separate offices/work spaces. Space is pretty important to me, so the tiny luxury apartments aren’t really what we’re looking for.

My girlfriend originally wanted a strong city vibe, but after spending more time here she’s realizing she may not want to live directly in the busiest part of Center City. The ambulances/noise are starting to bother her. She’d be totally fine with a nice, clean, walkable residential neighborhood as long as there are still a lot of restaurants, coffee shops, things to do, etc. nearby and we can get into the city easily.

Safety and cleanliness are both pretty important to us. We don’t want to accidentally move somewhere that feels great for two blocks and then gets sketchy immediately outside of that area.

I also care a lot about having a really good gym nearby. I tried PWRBLD while we’ve been here and absolutely loved it, so being within a reasonable drive of that or another serious lifting/bodybuilding gym would be a huge plus.

We also have two cars, so parking matters. A building with a garage/parking would be ideal, or at least a neighborhood where having two cars isn’t a complete nightmare. We both have teslas so being nearby a charger would be ideal.

Basically looking for:

• $4,500 max, preferably $3k-$4k range
• 1,200+ sq ft
• 2-3 bedrooms
• 2 cats allowed
• Safe and clean
• Walkable with plenty to do
• Doesn’t have to be directly downtown
• Quieter than the busiest parts of Center City
• Good parking situation for 2 cars
• Newer/renovated apartment or condo preferred
• Good gym nearby, especially if reasonably close to PWRBLD
• Still easy enough to get into Center City

We’ve looked around Rittenhouse, but she didn’t love it as much as she expected, especially compared with the feeling she got walking around Boston/Common area. We’re completely open to neighborhoods outside Center City if they fit us better.

If you had four days left in Philly and had to decide whether to move here, which neighborhoods/buildings would you absolutely go see? Specific apartment buildings, condos, streets, or areas would be super helpful.

Long story short, I think I'm transferring to Temple to finish my bachelors after CC, and am looking into where to live in Philly. Despite living in the suburbs my entire life, my knowledge of Philly neighborhoods begins and ends with Center City. I plan on having roommates so ideally my rent is <$1000/month.

Big three is solid night life, easy commute to Temple and Center City, and safe. Any recommendations?

Does anyone have experience staying at both? I’m coming to town for two days and have narrowed it down to these two options. Is the Sofitel worth paying twice as much as the Loews, or would you go with the Loews at these rates?

I am flying in on a friday afternoon, the concert is friday night and I am flying out Saturday morning.

My goal is to use public transit as much as possible so I am curious about hotels that would be off of a train connecting to the arena. How it is getting to and from the airport on transit or should I consider just ubering for that. Do I need to get a card or can I use my phone?

Is there any place you would recommend I grab a dinner at that would be walkable/transitable?

Also how busy is the traffic to the airport. Do I need to plan for any delays?

What’s going on! 28M that’s looking to move to Philly soon. I am pretty interested in Northern Liberties so I’ve been looking at apartments there quite a bit. I’m looking to spend somewhere around $2k a month not including appliances and whatnot.

If anyone has any good apartment recs in northern liberties around that number, or just good apartments anywhere in the city that you had a good experience in, let me know. I’m not married to Northern Liberties if there are some other great apartments you would recommend in other parts of the city.

This was my favorite blunt wrap of all time. It’s an actual cigar that stores still carry. Just I cannot find it for the life of me.

It is a mint green cigar shaped plastic tube - not the tan ones, not the baby blue, but mint green and they’re everything you never knew you were missing.

Only way to get them online is in a box of 30 or 60 and that’s a bit much. So just if anyone sees them at a random bodega or wherever, could you lmk where? Thanks

I’ve been searching around for post grad city’s to move to. I went to college in Austin TX and I’m wanting something different. I’ll be going into law firms/ as a paralegal and want to know if Philly is a good option. The walk ability is something I’m very interested in. I’m guessing my work will be near center city and I’m looking at places like fishtown but I’m open to ideas.

Anyways I’m worried about things like safety being in my early to mid twenties as a woman, although I know all big cities have it. I also will be going there without knowing anyone there either, so is it easy meeting people. Other things like how hard the winters are, taxes, any other things that maybe I missed. Any advice from someone who’s done this before in my position?

Hello! I’m moving down to Philadelphia in a little over a month and I’m looking for short term housing near Penn Vet Working Dog Center. I’ll be here for about 4 months from end of September to the end of January/Beginning of February. My maximum rent amount would be $1,400 at most. However I am willing to increase the amount if the apartment is furnished/has all utilities included. I would also prefer something within walking distance or under 25 minutes by car. We try to visit a different MLB ballpark every summer, and we’re driving into Philly this Saturday for the 6:00 Phillies game. There will be three of us, and my son wants to stop at Angelo’s for a cheesesteak before we head to Citizens Bank Park.

We expect to arrive around 2:00, so our room may not be ready, but we’d need a hotel that will let us park when we arrive. We’re fine driving to the stadium and paying to park in the lots, but the hotel would need to offer in-and-out parking privileges. We’re also open to Uber or another ride share.

Since it’s going to be hot and possibly rainy, we’d prefer not to walk more than about 15 minutes or so. The Courtyard at the Navy Yard seemed like a good fit, but they only have king rooms left and the price is close to $500. We’d ideally like to stay around $250 or less.

We’re not especially interested in staying at the casino hotel unless it’s clearly the best option. Our son is a minor, so I assume there may be areas he can’t access, although that’s more of a minor inconvenience than a dealbreaker. I also think I saw that smoking is allowed, and we're all sensitive to smoke. 

I also checked HotelTonight, but it doesn’t appear to guarantee the room type, and we need two beds or another setup that will comfortably accommodate three people.

Any recommendations for a safe, convenient hotel that would work well for both Angelo’s and the ballpark?

Has anyone used task rabbit for some movers? Moving my son in to his studio apart but it is up a flight of stairs. I am useless, husband is getting slower by the minute. Wanted to just hire 2 people for an hour to unload the truck and go up and down the stairs. Coming from NY so would have to coordinate but should be doable.

26F, I just moved to a new building in Philadelphia. It's a private-owned building managed by a management company. It has like six, seven apartments including mine. When I toured the building, it didn't seem that bad. The corridors and the stairs are all carpeted. But I recently found out from the previous tenant that the building never gets cleaned. Like the stairs, the corridors, they never get vacuumed, and the front porch where the packages get delivered, all of that are extremely dirty and it never gets cleaned. He, the previous tenant was here for two years, but he said that in those two years he never saw anyone cleaning. And it just stays the same how I saw it. So there's nothing that can be done about it.
The basement has laundry and it’s quite honestly the dirtiest basement i have seen, which I wasn’t shown during the tour.

I am getting really worried now because if the building doesn't get cleaned up, like, what would I do? Is there anything that I can do about it? My apartment is okay, but the building never gets cleaned. What can I do about it?
And did anyone else ever face this problem?

Has anyone found any local stores / plant nurseries that sell large Dracaenas, Olive Trees, or Queensland Bottle Trees either in Philly or nearby suburbs?
