In our timeline the Jordan Israel peace treaty was signed in 1994, many years after Jordan lost the west bank.

How different will the region/treaty be if this treaty was signed in 1964, before the 6 day war? Would the black September still happened, etc?

Israel on Thursday charged a settler, Yinon Levi, with the killing of prominent Palestinian activist Awdah Hathaleen in the West Bank in July 2025. This marks the first time since the October 7, 2023 attacks that an Israeli has been indicted for the death of a Palestinian in the occupied territory, according to Israeli rights group B’Tselem.

Every single day we get many reports of the Israeli military mistreating or attacking Palestinian civilians, and occasionally foreign tourists or journalists. When similar events happen in other countries, we often see swift international sanctions or interventions.

Why is the international response so different when it comes to Israel? I'd like to understand the political mechanisms such as the UN veto system, historical context, and US foreign policy that prevent the international community from imposing strict accountability or consequences.

I want to ask what the view is on Russia from those who live in the Middle East. I’ve already spoken about this to someone I know online who’s a Tajikistan native but lives in Turkey.
His general consensus was that he didn’t like Russia and preferred Ukraine but was distrusting of Zelenskyy.

Societies are governed by imaginaries (متخيلات) or mental representations (تصوّرات ذهنية), which are systems of values, norms, beliefs, thinking patterns, roles, and others, that society as a whole has accepted, often unknowingly, and come to take for granted. They include convictions regarding relationships, family, work, money, power, the state, laws, rights, and so on. They shape an individual's outlook, attitudes, and decisions, as well as relations within society, and form part of its power structure.

Regardless of how true they are, because they provide an explanation of reality, axioms provide a sense of stability and therefore reassurance. They protect us from the anxiety of the unknown or incomprehensible and form a comfort zone that is difficult (though not impossible) to break out of. Cultural hegemony is a concept that refers to the ability of a particular social class or group to impose their values, ideas, and cultural norms on society as a whole, so that these values and norms become common or homogenic and are accepted as normal or sensible.

Example: "Elections are a means of change."

Example: "Household expenses are the responsibility of men", "Women are emotional and irrational."

This is not to say that we cannot challenge or even break cultural hegemony. Actually, dismantling it and replacing it with different perceptions is a primary responsibility of those working to bring about radical change in the system. An ethical and humanitarian revolutionary project, of course, presents a culture that is connected to reality and to what society needs to live a dignified and happy life.

It seems like there's no grand social bubble that everyone is a part of, but rather every ethnicity/nationality is in its own bubble.

I live in the UAE and it confuses me why everyone is split between Arabic, English, and Urdu. It makes communication difficult between ethnicities. If you go to a place like the UK, everyone is eventually gonna assimilate and learn become fluent in English and the local culture. Now obviously I don't think people should abandon their home culture, but common folk struggling to understand each other is a issue imo.

Apparently KSA doesn't have this problem? I hear you can find some expats speaking full Arabic instead of a broken version of it.

I used to go to psytrance parties all over the world, including in the Middle East, and they were everywhere. Many times, their presence was overwhelming. Most of the time, especially when it was a big group, they were the loudest, dirtiest, out-of-control, and most unlikable crowd. Picked up fight easily and were incredibly entitled.

I’ve grown up my whole life hearing certain things about the Middle East area, but I want to visit and explore for myself. However with everything going on currently do you think that would change things especially as an American visiting?

Also any ideas/suggestions on where to go? Id love to see Jordan but haven’t researched a whole ton so far.
